Bottling Bettas
Переглядів 3232 роки тому
There has and will always have controversies over how bettas are bottled. I think many inexperienced people are quick to judge not knowing how much bottling a betta outweighs leaving them in a tank to attack each other. With that said, I feel that as long as the bottle is not permanent, has clean water, and feed well, he should be happy until a pet owner brings him home to a larger tank.

    Betta spawns are designed to grow at different rates in order for the fry to not compete with each other for the same food sources. Larger fry will eat larger prey and smaller fry will eat smaller prey so it ensures no one type of prey is all decimated, leaving the betta to starve. The ones to mature later also helps with preventing inbreeding as there will be less siblings of sexual maturity to mate with. However in a tank setting, if raising baby bettas, YOU MUST seperate the larger bettas from the smaller bettas. Letting the larger eat the smaller is 'not letting nature take its course', no, its stupidity taking course. In nature the smaller bettas hide from their larger siblings until they grow big enough themselves. In a tank setting they cannot hide. Yes some cannibalism occurs in the wild and that is natural. But the fact you did nothing to help Floaty despite him struggling is sad. Especially because you raised him and knows he suffered in the end. You said Floaty was big enough to not be bothered by his siblings, while clearly showing he had a tattered tail. While he may have died first before his siblings ate him, living with larger fish clearly stressed him and caused his early death. RIP Floaty, an internet stranger cared more about you than your owner

      Difficult. I got mines larger because we had wholesale and handpicked them. Those 4 to 5” ones were not very active and wouldn’t spawn. My guess is that they’re old. Good luck with your fish hobby.

    • @aqualoaquarium7195
      @aqualoaquarium7195 6 місяців тому

      This video is pretty old, so I don’t recall exactly how many Bettas were in the tank. Bettas raised from fry to teen age, about 3 months old will “likely” not fight yet. Beyond 3 months, the males especially will need to be bottled, sold, or separated. One can get away with raising a sibling group (male & female) together beyond 3 months but the holding tank has to be in a very dark location and filled with tannin so they can’t really see each other. I’ve tried this method and it works but difficult to feed them because they can’t really see the food. Good luck!

I don’t know when to actually start doing water changes and start switching to brine shrimp ? ?

      Just watched your fry video. Congratulations on getting this far. From the camera angle, the water quality looks good. Only change water as needed. For example, if the floor is dirty, take something like a turkey baster to suck up the area then slowly add more water in. The other idea would be just to add some fresh dechlorinated water to freshen up the tank. I’m sure the tank has lost some water due evaporation especially with a heater inside it. Good luck!

    • @aqualoaquarium7195
      @aqualoaquarium7195 Рік тому

      I use the 50w Hygger. It’s not so much what heater power works for what size tank. It’s where you keep your tank that’s more important. For example, if your 30 gallon tank is in the house where the room temperature is consistent at 76 degrees, you might only need a small heater. Unlike keeping that 30 gallon in the garage where it can get downwards of 35 degrees at night in North CA, you can have 2 huge heaters and they’ll run all night trying to keep the tank warm. Hope this helps.

Koi bettas are usually either blue then eventually, the blue will peel off at 3 months making them cellophane. Then if the koi genes are strong, the koi color will come in around 4-6 months. Other koi genes are cellophane from juveniles to adulthood then the koi color comes in. Good luck and keep at it.
