JESUS REJECTED THE IDEA THAT GOD WANTS OR IS EVEN CAPABLE OF GETTING JUSTICE, BECAUSE GETTING EVEN JUST DOESN'T WORK! The fundamental flaw of "justice" (which by the way, just means "getting even") is that getting revenge, in any amount, whether it's in equal measure ("justice," as in ONE eye for an eye) or many more times the original wrong committed (many eyes for one eye), NEVER SUBTRACTS from the original bad thing done! It only MULIPLIES IT! Torturing and killing a person who committed an assault does nothing to heal the wounds or undue the suffering of his victim. Killing killers never brings the dead back to life. Rape victims continue to suffer from the deeply emotional damage done to them by those who raped them! Yes, we have a primitive drive to get back at people when they hurt us, but this deep desire in our "lizard" brain to hurt back, never results in undoing the wrongs originally committed! What little solace comes from obtaining revenge is very short-lived, and the damage done continues. Worse, getting revenge often leads those who supposedly "got what they deserved" to lead others connected closely to them (family, spouses, friends, etc.) to seek counter-revenge! In other words, the Eye For An Eye approach really doesn't work! It merely perpetuates harmful behavior, but imitating it! This is probably why Jesus taught, in his stump speech, best exemplified in the "Sermon on the Mount" in Matthew 5:38-45, that God never really committed any acts of revenge or punishment! Jesus asserted God not only chooses NOT to do anything harmful to people, but is actually incapable of doing so! The fundamental nature of the God of Jesus of Nazareth can only respond to bad with good, to hate with love and to sin with forgiveness, which is why he taught that, if we want to be like God (to be his children, as the idiom goes in verse 45), we should act in the same way, by turning the other cheek, loving our enemies and doing good to those who persecute us. This is why Jesus' solution to the, otherwise, never ending cycle of Harming and Harming Again, was Repent and Forgive. Have the courage to interrupt the cycle by repenting for whatever harm you've done to others and forgiving those who have harmed you! Easy to do? No! But effective? Yes! Of course, politicians, especially those backed by mega-millionaires and large corporations, love to take advantage of the primitive human drive for revenge, constantly calling for stiffer penalties for crime, because it helps feed more people into the Prison Industrial Complex where, especially in the US, private, FOR PROFIT corporations now run prisons and use the inmates as slave labor! To help them sway voters to allow for this modern form of slavery, they have conspired with church leaders to promote the false idea that the very nature of God Himself requires him to be vindictive, and eternally so! It's then an easy, small step from there, to convince the unwary pew occupants they should imitate their utterly vindictive deity...even though this is the EXACT OPPOSITE of what Jesus taught!
