SBLSD Board-member Richard Hendricks Rant Against LGBTQ Student Rights
This is a clip of Board-member Richard Hendrick's rant against the rights and safety of transgender students at last week's board meeting. While it is within his position to share his opinion on policies/procedures, he went beyond that by then abusing his position of power to go on a rant about his views on pronouns, transgender people being deceitful, and blaming transgender students for the rise of mental health issues among youth. Much more was said by him that is hurtful and harmful to the LGBTQ+ community and their families.
He has a documented history of using his elected platform to publicly invalidate BIPOC students' experiences with racism in the Sumner Bonney Lake School District and now this. His term ends in 2023, but he has "trainees" that he is conditioning to run to take his place. A message needs to be sent to the board and community that this is not the culture we want for our community and students. There are a few things that the community can do to show this: 1)Request that the board censure him 2) Request that the board remove him from the policy committee and 3)Demand Board-member Hendricks resign at once from the school board. He's quite full of himself, so he's likely not going to resign, but it's important that he and his trainees know this type of behavior will not just be washed over.

WSSDA Standards to consider.
Rick’s conduct makes the entire board falter on meeting these standards:
Standard 1, benchmark a, question 6: Does the board model civility in all its interactions?
Standard 1, benchmark e, question 5: Does the board treat all individuals, including fellow board members, staff, students and community, with respect?
Standard 5, benchmark a, question 2: Does the board exhibit cultural, racial and ethnic understanding and sensitivity?
Individual Standards that Rick does not meet:
Standard 1: Values and Ethical Behavior
B. Demonstrates commitment to equity and high standards of achievement for each student.
C. Commits to treating each individual with dignity and respect.
D. Models high ethical standards.
Standard 2: Leadership
A. Contributes to thoughtful governance discussions and decisions by being well informed, open-minded and deliberative.
B. Understands that authority rests with the board as a whole and not with individual directors
F. Respects the board’s role in policy making and supports all adopted board policies.
Standard 3: Communication
B. Communicates accurately and honestly, with awareness of the impact of his/her words and actions.
C. Listens carefully and with an open mind.
D. Maintains civility and treats all people with respect.
Standard 5: Accountability
E. Complies with board policies/procedures and the law.
BP 5012 - Civility
To promote a work and learning environment that is safe and productive for all staff and students, and to encourage the free flow of ideas without fear or intimidation (comment to Dr. Dent about hiring and firing superintendents)
Imposing personal demands at times or in settings where they conflict with assigned duties and cannot reasonably be met (continually calling David Brower out during comments)
Careful with this board policy, though, because it specifically states that non-civility does NOT include talking about controversial topics…

Been missing this lady a lot and I'm sure I'm not alone with that. I wanted to make this months ago, but it was such an overwhelming emotional task that I wanted to get done right and wanted to ensure everyone's photos were included. I almost thought of hiring it out. Once I started, I sat down with Dan and we spent a few hours going through all the photo albums my mom had and selected about 70...

We ordered three Golden Buff started pullets from Meyer Hatchery and they were shipped to us. I wasn't sure what to expect so I thought I'd make an unboxing video. I couldn't be more happy with the service and the girls we received. They come vaccinated with their beaks trimmed. I'm still not sure what that's for, but they are all healthy and thriving.

They're not full grown but close enough. They cost more and the shipping is more being they are larger than day old chicks. Not needing a brooder and not having to worry about ending up with roo was my mine reasoning behind purchasing pullets. These girls started laying within a two weeks and are still my best layers (5-6 eggs per week per hen).

@@christinacooper2639 that pretty cool I thought they could only send day old But you do make a valid point buy the time you brood them at day old for 3 to 4 week you burn up that much or more on electricity And then you have to wait a little while longer to get any eggs If you don't mind me asking all total for your 3 girls and shipping how much was it total

@@ragnaralmighty I remember it being expensive but I wanted to ensure I was giving accurate numbers. I found my order slip. Now, mind you this was from October 2021 and it appears prices may have gone up. I purchased 3 Golden Buff Started Pullets at 14.77/each. The shipping is what killed me...50 each. So the total was 194.31. I still get a little sticker shock looking at that total! However, keep in mind that all three have received vaccinations, are healthy, and have a substantially higher chance of surviving their journey being shipped. Also, a plus for me is not dealing with pasty butt or discovering that one is a rooster and having to get rid of it (I live in the city). I've checked with my local farm stores to see about pullets in an effort to save on shipping, but they only have them on a first come, first serve basis and so far I haven't been quick enough.

Trimming a chicken break is not a good thing it’s help stop pecking at each but cause so much pain.

I've read mixed information of this stating that it's equivalent to us trimming our nails, but even when we trim our nails short, it can be painful. On the flip side, their beaks have grown back, but I did have concerns about beak trimming as well and it's something I don't think I'll consider in the future.
