Ion Game Design is a game developer and game production company.
The games that Ion Game Design develop is focused on two tracks, mobile platforms and board games. That said the production methods we use allows for easy publishing on several platforms, such as PC, Mac, Smart TV and consoles. We can also mix the tracks by making digital versions of board games.
The idea behind Ion Game Design as a game production company is to offer knowledge and experience of game design to any business where game design may be of great value. It could be as a direct activity or as a catalyst in other activities. Games are a very expansive field in the media world today, but the ones skilled at designing games rarely provide their services outside of game companies. At Ion Game Design, we believe there are many fruitful and effective ways, to apply game design to new areas.
The name of the company, Ion, is inspired from the nature of ions. They are atoms that seek interaction, solution, completion.

Kartini From Darkness to Light short how to play
Looking forward to this! I just got the message / it arrives on my doorstep next week! 😊
Who had the idea to release the app in such an unfinished state???
Thank you for the feedback! After two years of development and extensive testing, the current version of the game offers a fun and engaging experience on its own. While it’s not yet an exact adaptation of HF4, we’re committed to making it align with the board game you love. By releasing it now, fans can enjoy the game and help us prioritize features for future updates. All updates to the core game will be free, and like the board game, we aim to refine the digital version collaboratively with our fans.
Does the game support async play and notifications?
Currently, the game is played live, with the host saving progress on their device. While asynchronous play was considered, it was decided that, like the board game, sessions should require a dedicated time commitment to keep the experience engaging. The app streamlines gameplay with automation, making it faster than the physical version. That said, we’re open to exploring asynchronous play as a future mode if players express interest. Feedback will guide future updates.
Cloth map seems like a downgrade to me. Easier to ruffle, shift around and less legible. That was main reason I didn’t go for deluxe.
We've tested several types of cloth maps and are very pleased with the one included in the Pax Hispanica Deluxe version-it’s both beautiful and practical for gameplay. However, we’ve also included a regular cardboard map in the Deluxe version for those who might prefer that option. This means the Deluxe version comes with two map options.
Is there a solo mode? If so, is it as good as Pax Pamir 2ed. ???
Yes, Pax Hispanica does include a solo mode. Whether it measures up to Pax Pamir 2nd Edition is ultimately a matter of personal preference and can only be judged by each player individually. We hope you enjoy exploring it!
To me, it is a rare case, normally I always try to buy a deluxe, where I dont really feel to have a deluxe version, especially that it costs x2 more than a regular version in my country.
very interesting excited to try this!
Curious, will the various modules be implemented?
The initial release will feature the core game, with the additional modules to be introduced in later stages.
@@IonGameDesign I hope its not take years like in some other digital boardgames.
@@Velanteg So do I :) And quite frankly I think we will be different in this regard. We have the team inhouse which many others don't and that makes it easier to be faster in applying bug fixes and changes. That being said, the modules are complicated things, each of them more complex than most complete other games, having 40+ pages of intricate rules. So it may take some time for each of them to be produced. It also comes down to how well the app performs how much resources we can put on it.
@@JonManker When base app ready - its actually 95% of work already done. Programming rules is much more easy work than multimedia app itself.
@@Velanteg We understand your concern! The app versions are set to release on January 16th. After that, we’ll focus on refining the UI for the Steam version, and then continue developing the additional modules.
Nice to see the project is ongoing! I see it is a faithful representation of the actual game, which is very nice. What I am not a fan of, is the UI/UX aspect. As people have stated, it lacks the overview but more importantly, design clashes with itself. There is no sense of depth, what is behind what, it looks flat and it damages the readability a lot. And still, I am worried how it would all look on a tiny screen. I am watching this on PC and even now those spaces on the map look very small, and on a phone it might be near impossible to tap the correct one and manipulate all the required choices. I honestly think this should have been a PC adaptation of the game, rather than an app. Even much less complex games didn't go for the app but went for PC adaptation - and took advantages that gives them. Also, this is a game that takes a LONG time to play. Which again warrants a PC rather than an app. And yes, you said it will be available on Steam - which is great! The problem is, the game is developed as an app and the Steam version would basically be a port. I am still glad you are developing further and trying out new things. HF4A is an amazing game. But from this video alone, I am not really looking forward to buying it - and I have every single HF4A item available from the shop. I'd rather just unpack the board game, even though it takes 2m^2 with the mat and all the modules.
The UI/UX is still a work in progress, and our artists are working hard to refine it before release. For the Steam version, the UI will undergo some redesign to enhance the experience. Be sure to check out our upcoming gameplay videos for a closer look!
@@IonGameDesign Thanks for the answer. I definitely intend to follow the development, I am a big fan of the company.
Very nice. This will be a huge change for those who like HF4. Do u know how much the app will cost?
The plan is 14.99 USD for US market
I appreciate what your doing and trying to go mobile with it but the biggest problem imo is the lack of overview. This should have been for PC with a larger screen and a UI that shows you your hand, leo and the market cards all at the same time.
Thank you for the feedback! We're excited to share that the game will also be adapted and released on Steam. It's already available for Wishlist on Steam, so feel free to check it out!
@@IonGameDesign Done! But I assume the steam release will be basically the same as the ios in which case the issues I have will be the same, although somewhat easier to navigate using a mouse and larger screen. I sincerely hope you allow the PC/Steam release to make use of the advantage a PC has over mobile in regards to UI and controls. My problems stems from being a beginner of HF4A, ive played it a few times but far from enough to know it well. That means I dont have good knowledge of the various cards and their traits and must often look over them again and again to make sure im not making mistakes or missing important info. This is not a huge problem when I play at the table, I have all my cards in front of me as well as the patent decks so I can easily and quickly see what is available and not. On the app I must constantly go back and fourth between the various screens and menus and never feel like I grasp what I have at my disposal. For a beginner this is a huge hurdle to enjoy the game. And I would claim its probably the same for most players aside from those really experienced who knows much of the game and cards by memory alone. I love HF4A, even the first time I unboxed the core game I fell in love. But its a mountain to learn, not just ruleswise but also to understand the strategies and how to use the game mechanics to your benefit. An app could help so much since it allows for quick and accessible solitaire games but if it presents new hurdles for beginners it will just be another mountain to climb.
Please release it soon! Dying to play it on Steam
For the Steam version, we are redesigning the UI to take advantage of the larger screen space available compared to a phone screen. However, our current priority is finalizing the remaining functionalities needed to complete the game. Once those are implemented, we will shift focus to the Steam version, which we plan to release as a fully complete experience.
@@-Markus- Your passion for HF4A is clear and I am happy you will be playing this app. All feedback is valuable, positive and negative. We hope the app will be a way for new players to learn the game faster and for seasoned players a way to play more often and for all to use it as a tool for planning your movement and other things while you play the board game. Many details in the features will continue to evolve over time and we plan to have an active and continuous updating of features and mechanics in the app.
Android??
Yes, Android and iOS.

We're thrilled to have had the opportunity to develop this amazing game alongside the designer Sherria :)
When is this being released? I see pre orders for it in Canada but no idea when it comes out.
Pax Hispanica is expected to arrive at the fulfillment centers by mid-January 2025, so it will soon be available. For more details, please check the news section on our website.
It'so good to see you such excited! :) Congrats!
It's as clear as the rulebook, which is an obvious praise.
Instant buy
Can’t find Exodus anywhere in the U.S. Also, even after this video, I gave no idea what the Tools module is for.
Great unboxing!… The 3 promos come with the deluxe edition or they will be bought separate?
A question about setup, do you pick your dino species after seeing the challenges that you compete over, or afterwards?
You pick your dino species first, after that you see the challenges and the scenario that give the starting conditions. Since you compete over 5 challenges each time, having a preconception of the challenges doesn't really give you that much of a advantage.
Honestly, to me everything looks beautiful, ...can't wait to get it. Thanks for creating these gorgeous games!!! 🎉🙏🥰
Are there any play throughs or reviews around please?
Not yet, but it should be coming soon!
I dont know how to describe this game but it has me thinking about it all the time. Few games grips my imagination like this one has!
Beautiful board! Ion your design and art are killing it!
When will I have my copy?
I'd say not earlier than March 2025
In Essen I heard them saying that, most hopefully it will be send out by the end of the year, maybe even before Christmas 🎉
@@Crackhead66661 I doubt that will happen. Christmas, New Year, and then Chinese New Year... and these will probably push it to March at the earliest..
The games are done and waiting to get on ships to different fulfilment centers.
The player boards look very cheap.
They are beautiful but I also have a grudge with flimsy cardstock!
The quality and thickness of the boards are consistent with what we use in our other games, but we truly value your input. We're always looking for ways to improve, so we'll be sure to take your feedback into account for future editions!
Will the expansions be available in swedish?
There is no plans for Swedish version of th expansions at the moment.
I ordered this as soon as I heard about it after the first Zenobia Awards finalists were announced, and I'm looking forward to getting my copy. It looks beautiful! Thanks for publishing it!
Why don't you have any playthrough videos or just any videos about this game since you published this one? Is this game less interesting to people?
We’ve been refining the rules for Pax Maleficium and wanted to wait until they were more stable before doing a playthrough video. It should be coming soon! The rules will also include three different variants (England, New England, and solo), which has taken some time to finalize.
@@IonGameDesign Any update on the rulebook? I would love to try to play it on TTS especially solo
@@skybean The solo version of Maleficium is still in development, but the design team is actively working on finalizing the rules and expects to complete them soon. For weekly updates on this and other projects, feel free to follow our Discord channel!
It would be great if it were available on the Switch platform.
for some reason Ion games always excite me more than any other publisher's games! can't wait to get my hands on this.
Perfect size. Looks great!
Why isn't a good insert included? Zip Bags are really a cheap and not consumer-friendly. I think everyone who is buying this masterpiece, is willing to pay a bit more for a good insert solution.
So frustrating to play on table, surely with 20 hours of digital play, I finaly can develop a colony!
😅 Are you sure about that? I can speak to the team and get them to put in some cheat codes for you, just in case 😉
cant wait😃
I really don't envy whatever person has to program all the High Frontier rules
😆 Yes it is a big job. We initially went through the entire manual to categorize each rule in the game into feature / function. Then each of those groups were prioritized again into High Priority / Standard / Nice to Have / Deprecated. With the framework in place the team set to work, with each member responsible for each feature ensuring the rules are coded into their feature. The team has done well to get to this stage. As you seem to know the game, you can understand the complexity to get the rules in, and get it right. I am very proud of the work the team has already done to get the game this far. It is not perfect right now, but we are working, with testers to make sure everything is in place and working when we launch the game.
For the love of god can we get a overhead camera please
One last suggestion is that you should slow down the animation of the rocket moving, greatly. I think when you slow it down it will make the game appear more dramatic and give it more of a space feel. Like if I launch my rocket and it explodes in less than a second it will feel kinda lame. As opposed if I launch a rocket and it takes like 5 seconds to mars, and then maybe a pop up screen happens saying we’ve hit an asteroid belt and it says on a roll of one your rocket explodes (and have this screen disappear after like 2 seconds). It will make the game feel more epic. I really think flying the rocket in this game is best part. Imagine your traveling to Pluto and you have to watch it travel for like 30+ seconds it will really feel great. Or you watch it for 30 seconds and then it explodes. If it happens in a spilt second you’ll lose that feeling. Especially if you want to award those bonus points to your friends. I almost think that should be the only unskippable animation. I think it’s that important to get right. I would also look for some scaled ratio of speed for the animation. Like if you have more powerful thrusters your rocket animation moves faster. Would be really cool as a scale model.
Thank you for all your feedback. I will make note of them and bring it to the team. The current UI are just placeholders to access the various functions in this first beta test version. The actual UI will be look and feel different as the screen realestate will be better used, icons, buttons etc also will have a more uniform look and feel to them. Features such as tooltips when you hover over buttons etc is under cionsideration. As to the rocket animations, we had much discussions about that, the speed at which it should travel. The consensus was to make it quick. The first few times it may be epic feeling, but the 100th time you wait for the rocket to slowly get to where you are going (and the other players must also wait for every rocket to slowly fly to their destination) do you not think it would be a bit tedious? Just as we found most turn off the looping music when playing strategy games, anything that takes time we try to skip as we want to get on with the game. However, if we are wrong and the fans want as you suggested more proportionate travel time based on speed of rocket, etc, we can look to implement it. At the end of the day, we are making this game for the fans and we want to give the fans what they want as much as possible, so we are open to suggestions and feedback.
@@nice1stuOnline awesome, can’t wait to try it.
Looking fantastic, even in this earlier phase! Definitely a purchase for me when it's available!
I think the card information looks very bland almost prototypish. Can you just not include scans of the actual cards ?
Yes, The patents you see are placeholders, as with all the UI. They are being redesigned to fit an overall look and feel we want for the digital version of High Frontier. There were thoughts of using the existing board game cards, but we want to distingush the digital game from the board game with designs that are more fitting a digital game, and also take advantage of the added functionality a digital platform offers. We will be rolling out the final patent desgin before the game is released, with the aim that is will look more scientific yet retain the functionality of the board game cards.
@@nice1stuOnlinesounds good also at 1:04 when you start opening the menus. If the menus are empty the buttons shouldn’t be clickable and the opacity on them should be turned down. To simplify what you can and cannot do.
Also the bidding buttons would look nicer if you used the icon for water with a plus symbol.
And the buttons on the player board screen should also be icons and if you hover with a mouse or touch and hold then the text should pop up
Right now there’s too much text on the screen. I also think the Show Path Info button, when you click on should post a box on the left or right side of the screen with a lot of transparency . So you can still view the map and not obstructing it
At first I was waiting for full-animated system when planets and other points would move around the Sun :) But yeah, while it would be cool, because how important intersections are for ship movement, this would be impossible to implement correctly I think... but would be cool nontheless
Actually it would be "relatively" easy to animate and move everything in terms of mechanics because all the connections are set, moving them out of place would make no difference game-wise (eg. flying to the moon would cost the same whether the moon is next to Earth or we move it out by Pluto) visually though it might become a bit of spaghetti because flight paths will cross that shouldn't. things would be out of position and visually not make sense (eg. Moon next to pluto can still be reached with same number of burns as when next to Earth) Plus, it would become even busier then already is... so we might leave that to a maybe feature way towards the end of development 😁
@@nice1stuOnline well, yeah, it could be possible in general. But hard to maintain exactly same pattern and keep it readable... Not impossible, yeah, but very time-consuming to maintain lines and intersections and, yeah, sometimes messy... But maybe... Maybe it would be cool, maybe with more 3d look...
Super exciting! Rethink the animations for each symbol on the map. It's a very busy screen as is, and they don't add a lot.
There is an animation menu that allow the toggling of the animations on / off. Design philosophy was the animated map would make it more digital as opposed to the static board game map. However, if the general consensus amongst the players is that the animations are not necessary, we can just remove the feature altogether. This is the 1st closed test version, so there are many features to be added, many bugs to be fixed and many tweaks are possible. Thanks for the feedback, it will help us to steer the project towards what the players want.
@@nice1stuOnline That's awesome! I really appreciate the quick response. Such a cool project and I can't wait to see it released.
Yessss
Love the cover!
No, the old one is more classy
Is Pax Porfiriana: Ultimate Edition going to be on a crowdfunding platform? If so, any tentative launch dates? :)
Yes it is estimated to launch in September 2024. Link to the preview page: gamefound.com/en/projects/ionsmg/pax-porfiriana-ultimate-edition
The audio sounds a bit wobbly.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention! We're sorry to hear that the sound quality wasn’t up to par. We’ll look into it and do our best to improve it for future videos.
Anything different than the last edition? If so, will there be an upgrade pack?
Besides the new art/flavor text on cards, there is reportedly going to be a mini expansion included in this with a dozen or so cards covering the Cristero War of the 1920s, which historically followed the events of the original game. I have no clue if it will be available to purchase separately, but I'll flag that, since the card art is changing, I wouldn't plan on the card backs matching prior editions.
Will solo rules be included?
Hoo, would love if this version could include components for Ricky Royal solo. Would be an instabuy!
The game is for 1-6 players.
When can we give you our money?
