The "Engine" in the background is actually a wooden mock up of Hercules when it carried armoured plating during the Second World War.

Are there more Steam Engines which are out of service? On 1:30 you can see one loco in the background... Nice Video!

Wheelslip's caused by damp morning rails, can happen to any engine lol Tornado does it too

If i remember correctly, and looking through the pictures i have, there was a headlight fitted to the loco.

Does that engine at the end have a headlight?

It was was very good timing of the two trains to enter at very similar time's, i was just thankful a service train didn't enter on the platform i was standing on.

tell you what, though, it gave you a rare opportunity to see Tangmere and a Eurostar side by side.

The climb to Martin Mill bank starts not long after Deal station, so a standing start from Deal in Autumn was always going to be trouble, had the loco watered at Canterbury, they would have been able to run through Deal at the line speed (Which i believe is 50mph) and would have had the momentum to climb the bank without problems.

Thanks very much. The rail conditions that day were quite bad, even the 3rd rail units were having problems with low traction! I personally feel that the Deal waterstop was the wrong place to stop, had the waterstop been located at Canterbury i would like to think that Tangmere would have got up the bank no problem.

Tangmere WAS assisted on the Dover water stop, but only after 90 minutes faffing around with platform hose pipes.

excellent quality video! do you happen to know why Black prince kept wheel spinning on stopping? Ive never noticed it before! also from 5:10 until 6:40 I was standing literally just to your left!

It was very amusing for us passenger's on the train, there have been rumours that people have been served drinks from the bar car on the passing train!

I followed Black Prince because she has always been a firm favourite of mine and had been out of service most of that year and was the only loco that i had any interest in filming that evening.

Why you only show the Black Prince? there are loads of others. I remember Hercules failing when I went and a diesel had to pull us!

A good location to spend a few hours at the RH&DR would be New Romney station, during the summer intensive timetable the trains depart in each direction every 40 minutes, so there no shortage of action happening, usually there will be 2 loco's in steam at New Romney while the driver's have their lunch break. Also at New Romney is the Locomotive shed (Not normally open to the public) and the Museum and model railway above the station restraunt.
