Combat! counters finally sorted

My storage "solution" for the counters used in this game. Even for a solo game I find that the amount of counters used during play to be quite large.

As it shall be my sons first delve into proper hex & counter wargames, we will be playing a DG Folio game. I find that they teach the basics of wargaming, with just the right amount of "chrome".

GI Joe Battle for the Arctic Circle- Game One
I've got the old version of this. Haven't tried it yet.
2nd. That looks like a lot to learn
It's really not as bad as it looks. After a few turns, one intuitively knows the procedure.
First!
I think it is because wargames does not focus on characters and instead on the armies, faceless soldiers basically, you don't get to form backstories for the individual men on the field except if you really wanted to with friends, also even if characters are made, the soldiers themselves R.I.P. easily. Basically the focus is on using units to combat your opponents units, and those units don't need a backstory because they have a 80% of not needing one due to sniper fire, artillery, and basically a battalion of tanks (which is very grimdark if you think about it too much, but that's the sad reality of war). So attachment to characters is near non existent. We're more focus on how many Fire Teams we have than what do they like for desert.
And I realize that the US squads are Able & Baker rather than Alpha & Bravo, but the Able & Baker military phonetic alphabet is old, and when I served, it was Alpha & Bravo. Sorry for any confusion.
I don't mean to sound so critical about the amount of counters because I think the counters are better than 6 sheets of charts and multiple die rolls, and because I know of no way to do it better.
They probably printed the counter sheets so that each scenario is on the same sheet, so that might be why they are mixed.
I never thought of that. You are probably correct. Thanks!
That is the case over the counter sheets. Thank you for the review and your purchases. All volumes will continue with linked shelve imagery imagery
HA! It's even printed ON THE COUNTER SHEETS! I missed it! I'm a Dumkopf!
I think a bat flies across the screen at the end.
I still find amusement when I see a game with lots of counters. The old Avalon Hill and SPI games I had during my childhood and teenage years had lots and lots of counters. Tiny zip lock bags work well too.
My only complaint of the game is the reliance on so many counters. But no better options. It's just a lot to punch out, clip, and sort.
Nice, how does it play solo?
Not very well, I hate to say.
Lots to learn
Probably too much! This is a very complex game.
2nd! That looks fun
Thats cool!
First!
Microgame Design Group did Battle of Armageddon first.
Right! I have a copy of that as well!
THUMBS DOWN. Horrible video. Apparently you did no preparation. All you did was open the box and described the contents. Anyone can do that. No insight whatsoever. Since you already owned the game, it must be a real loser since you couldn't remember anything about it. You made no comment if it was playable, worth purchasing, plusses or minuses, etc. A waste of seven and half minutes to watch. I learned absolutely nothing from this.
U mad bro? At least I have content on my channel, which is more than you can say about your channel.
I made my game pieces using cardboard from a cereal box
That's what I normally use
How much did that cost?
Around 50$ if I remember correctly.
I have done this so many times.
I found it easy to use a heavy lead pencil on this 🎮
Yes it was real,Cold War
Reminds me of the Midway board game
Happy New Year! That game still looks like fun.
Happy New Year!
I know what you mean; I went through a phase when I used to “mount” paper maps. Big mistake! I ended up having to buy the games again! Happy New Year, man! Great that your son has an interest for wargames! Cheers!
Thanks Joe! Happy New Year to you and your family! Blessings to you for the next year!
Scribed has it on their too
I bought the paperback version, your right on just being fun
Do you have a boardgamegeek account? I BGG to keep track my collection to avoid buying duplicates. Plus I also have a private geeklist of my collection.
I'm not welcome on BGG. I was perma-banned years ago...
@@Conflict_Boardgaming I had my run in with Octavian in 2014. I barely escaped a perma-ban. The antagonists were Joey Sabin and Michael Dorosh.
@@localcitizen3531 Yup... Dorosh...
Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas to you too!
I've have finally got Air Land & Sea two weeks ago. Really enjoying that, got the paperback book by Noah Patterson Ardennes Solo ww2 print n play book
As a follow up I played this for the first time tonight at a friend's house. Before I left, I grabbed the board and rules from the base game which I nearly forgot to do. However - cue Robot from Lost in Space "Warning Will Robinson - warning" -- you will need some of the blocks for certain unit types when you play this expansion. The back of the expansion does states it is not a complete game, and you need the base game. I stupidly thought it meant you needed the base rules and the board. However, in my defense, I did not note anywhere in the expansion rules that the blocks from the base game were also needed. I stickered this a few weeks ago and did not look closely at the scenarios - my bad there. Only when I got to my friend's house and started setting up did I realize I was missing whole unit types for both sides. We made do with what we had. I won as the Crusaders at Hab 7 to 2. I really like this expansion and hopefully there is more to follow.
I actually like Medieval the best of all the C & C games that I won (Ancients, Mem 44, Nappy and Samauri Battles along with Battle Cry). I am just waiting for someone to build a Vassal module for this expansion.
Is the old gentleman in Whitestown still selling models?
Sorry, wot?
Looks like fun
First!
Your not kidding when you said their was alot of rules for this game.
Thanks. I got my copy & just stickered all of the blocks. I will mess around with it solitaire and see how it goes.
👍
My man... have you not any others to play with? Perhaps we could play via e-mail/YT or such?

Damn, RH, sorry for your loss, friend.
Who is this?
It’s your favorite squirrel.
You could make that yourself, just have directions.
This is one of the worst videos I've ever seen. Please, quit UA-cam.
