Three Houses tool
The Three Houses tool is a great way to involve the child in making their safety plan. It was developed by Nicki Weld and Maggie Greening in the national child protection agency in New Zealand in 2003.

      No sorry, I don't have such a script. Maybe you want to play the movie and between 5:20 and 6:10 make a screen shot to print out and take with you when you interview. Also, I highly recommend the book Retelling the Stories of our lives by David Denborough, who spends a chapter on this method from which I got this info. The chapters leading up to the tree of life method are very worthwhile reading to get the right mindset for the interview. The book continues with numerous other methods you might like as well.

      I first learned about the Ecomap from Texas CASA (if you google Ecomap and Texas CASA you can find that). I then learned more about the tool from the internet. I combined what I learned and used my daughter's life at the time as an example. I went back to Texas CASA for review and comments before I finalized the movie.

    My family tree is very complex since I have 2 half brothers 2 ex step siblings not blood related to me or my other siblings and then went into foster care and got a foster family where I’ve got two foster brothers and a foster sister

    • @judithvanrijt8235
      @judithvanrijt8235 Рік тому

      That does sound complicated. I’ve seen people turn their family tree 90 degrees and draw their foster/adoptive family to the right or left and their biological family to the other side. I hope that helps.

    Most crimes of abuse occur within the inner circles of trust, where people who were supposed to be close and intimate and trustworthy defile the social rules and violate the self.

  • @CzechRiot
    @CzechRiot 3 роки тому

    A 17 year old is a minor but not a child. A child cannot drive, for example. Most teenagers will rebel and get angry and annoyed if treated "as a child". Also, I believe this kind of labeling to be a disservice to actual children who suffer abuse from adults, because children below 10 years of age, generally speaking, are very ignorant and naive about many important things n social life, and have no phusical or mental ways of defending themselves even from 12 year old and up teenagers. While 14 and above have alredy several adult traits, both physically and mentally, and many of them can even be much more mature than the average adult. Of course, most adults who are idiotis, were also idiotic teenagers, bit that is not my point. Anyway, my comment is a little divergent from the actual point of the video, but I just felt like saying it anyway. It's still a matter of trust anyway, since abuse often occurs within a situation of misguidance of trust.

      Thank you for letting me know! Best Wishes! By making an ecomap you explore who all are important in your life right now. Tree of Life (another tool you can find on my channel) also looks who were important to you in the past. You might want to consider making that one too. Either way, good luck to you!

    These are very useful, thank you for creating! Due to the content being about how to connect with youth, families, and children, I would suggest using examples of people from pop culture or situations that are more relevant in today's world. Many people who are going into the field of working with families are young themselves and there have been countless studies of humans being able to learn better when it is connected to something they are interested in and know about, an example could be learning how to do fractions in math with pizza or sports, so I suggest when making content to use examples majority of workers can connect or relate to like using Barak Obama, Kim Kardashian or Micheal Jackson. As well as for the connectedness map maybe using someone like Lisa from the Simpsons or any TV show young people would be watching in today's day and age. I know the lesson is not about the actual families or situations used and is here to teach the method, although my suggestion is to use examples relevant to modern-day. Doing this will demonstrate how the lessons are adapted to increase the engagement of practitioners learning about these methods and to motivate and encourage them to use these tools with the families and youth they work with in the future.
