Backyard Fish Tub for Medaka Ricefish Part 6: Tub Revamp
Summer is kicking into gear so I decided to revamp my tub a bit in order to make things more pleasing to the eye. I hope you all enjoy seeing some of the Neocaridina shrimp again, I was never able to get good footage of them back in the original configuration of the tub.

Feeding Live Bloodworms to Medaka Ricefish
Переглядів 5703 роки тому
I've had small plastic containers sitting outside for a while hoping to get some mosquito larvae but something even better turned up: bloodworms! They're the larvae of midge flies and are red due to the oxygen content of the water. The red is from hemoglobin that helps them in low oxygen environments but it also excites fish! I hope you all enjoy this video of my medaka ricefish having a snack!
Feeding Live Food to my Aquarium Fish
Переглядів 3173 роки тому
Live foods are a great way for you to give your fish the proper nutrition they need, a healthy diet, and enrichment! I find that my fish respond much better to live food compared to dry pellets of flakes. In addition, live foods will allow your fish to spawn more readily and often. I hope you enjoy this video of my fish eating some white worms and daphnia!
Backyard Tub for Medaka Ricefish Part 5: Raccoon Attack Aftermath
Переглядів 2,6 тис.3 роки тому
Here's another old video taken around November after a group of curious raccoons knocked everything in my tub over. I believe they didn't find anything interesting as they haven't been back since. This video only shows me cleaning up the tub, I forgot to record the damage from the raccoons as I was too busy trying to clean it all up haha. However, there was a silver lining, I was able to count ...

Backyard Tub for Medaka Ricefish (Part 2): Adding Shrimp
Переглядів 4 тис.3 роки тому
The tub has since settled down and become a balanced ecosystem. I decided to add some Neocaridina shrimp and some snails to the tub to serve as a clean up crew until I get my medaka ricefish. The snails will thrive in the pond but the shrimp will be an experiment. I have kept some outdoors year-round in the past but they won't breed as the temperatures get colder. By adding adult shrimp, I hope...

Another cinematic video but this time with the 5 gallon dragon stone aquascape! *Sorry about the blank subtitle in the beginning* I've added two shrimp to help with cleaning but as you can see, they need to step up their game. All the plants are doing super well and I hope that this tank will grow in to its best in around a month. Thank you for watching and if there are any questions, feel free...

It's been a while but here's a quick look at how I do maintenance during the dry start period! When needed, I'll trim any plants that have grown too tall but maintenance usually only consists of misting throughout the day and draining the excess water. Please ignore the marker on wall courtesy of younger siblings. Thank you all for watching and if you have any questions, feel free to ask them b...

Do the Cherry Shrimp survive cold temps of around 40 degrees?
Yes, the adults better than the juveniles.
Thank you for the reply!@@unso.fish.ticated1490
Love the set up.. and it's so peaceful how u presented the video.. with nature sounds.. makes me want to own fish tub as well
Beautiful video of my favourite fish ❤. I have five outdoor ponds with various varieties! They truly are such hardly little fishies! Thank you for the relaxing background singing of the birds, and great underwater footage 👍🐠⭐️
Thank you for your support! It's great that you have 5 outdoor ponds, sounds like a dream come true!
How well do the papyrus do for you? Any challenges during the winter?
They did quite well when I had them. They slow down in the winter time but if your climate doesn’t get ice/snow, you can leave them outdoors the entire year. Otherwise, you might need to overwinter the plants indoors.
@@unso.fish.ticated1490 there are maybe 3 days out of the year where we get frost, it never snows where I am from. I might consider getting a dwarf variety this year. Thanks.
Hi, your videos are really neat! would love to see more videos in the future!!
Thank you!! I’ve been very very busy as of late and I don’t know when/if I’ll create more UA-cam content.
Love your videos! I have a small waterfall in my medaka pond and they love playing in the current too. I also some some videos of them in the wild and they were swimming against the current in a stream and waiting for food to flow to them. All very interesting when we are told they like still water. I'm starting to wonder if that's true..
Thank you! They don’t mind flow at all! Just as long as the flow isn’t too strong.
0:16 is this just normal ground moss?
This was aquatic moss, I don’t remember what species.
Hi! What kind we could put in the water of medakas tubes
would rice fish and shrimp go nicely in a 93 gallon indoor pond?
They would! Just keep in mind that medaka show their best coloration when kept outdoors though.
Meditation 🥰🥰❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏
I think so too!
Always like the aquascapes that have the pathways in them. Nice work
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome
Thank you!
I hope you make content on the medaka meet up at San Francisco tomorrow, sounds like fun.
I was unable to do much, was much too busy! There are some photos of the event floating around though.
Really good video!! Your channel seems really cool!! 300th sub!!🥳👍
Thank you! Much thanks for the support!
it's been a while, looking forward to more videos :)
Sorry, it has been a while haha! I've gotten very busy with life so I can't promise new vids but I'm glad that you enjoy my content!
can these puffer eat store bought clams from the seafood section?
They can eat clams but they don’t get large enough to crush the shells. I recommend feeding C. irrubesco frozen bloodworms/brine shrimp or live snails.
Just watching the fishies and listening to the birds.. omg thats so peaceful. Please post more on your pond.. I can watch this for a long time
Thank you :) I haven't had much time recently to film my set ups, I'll try to get some new content out! I appreciate your kind words and support!
I want this fish but nobody sell one in my country, cant purchase overseas
I would try to contact some breeders in Japan, they may be open to shipping overseas!
I was considering shrimp along with my medaka (once I get some) but I was worried that the shrimp would eat the medaka eggs. Do you find that happening at all?
I have never seen shrimp eat a healthy egg. In fact, I've used shrimp to "clean" medaka eggs before!
@@unso.fish.ticated1490 awesome. I’m planning on setting up a medaka tank and really wanted to keep shrimp with them. But I would like to see my medaka spawn and not lose the egga
@@claywise43 For sure, if you want a high fry survival rate, I would recommend removing eggs and raising them separate from the adults.
@@unso.fish.ticated1490 I might try it both ways. I gotta get setup and find the medaka first. Lol
@@claywise43 Sounds like a plan haha!
I am fascinated with medaka. But I can’t find any locally. Love your videos and the beautiful medaka you have
Thank you! Do join the various medaka groups on Facebook, there are many people who will ship!
Awesome setup! Keep up the AMAZING work! New supporter + fellow fishtuber here! Stay connected….. 😀

Amazing! I got a pot-pond with some gold and platinum Medaka, they are by far my favourites!
Nice! I really like the platinums, I'll have to get my hands on them soon!
Looks great. What camera are you using for the underwater shots?
Thank you! I use my phone in a waterproof case to take my underwater footage.
Hi! Your videos are very relaxing! I have one question, where did you get your Medaka fish? I think you mentioned you got it from your friend that breeds them. Am I wrong? If I’m right, is your friend selling them? Thank you!
Thank you for your support! :D I got them from a friend but they didn't do much breeding this year. However, I can ship eggs if you're in the US.
@@unso.fish.ticated1490 Yeah we are based here in the US. How can we contact you? Thank you for your response 🙂
@@glendareodica Of course! You can reach me on instagram @undso.fish.ticated and shoot me a DM or you can email me at unso.fish.ticated@gmail.com!
what type of soil do you use?
I just used regular potting soil without any pesticides!
I love the look of the red caps! I keep Four varieties or Medaka, Orochi Black, Pure Blue, Hi Medaka, & Shiro Medaka….Red caps are definitely going in the mix when I can find them!
That’s awesome!! I’m planning on expanding into another strain soon, bringing me up to two! I’d love to get my hands on orochi but I don’t have the space or time haha.
Great setup! I like how deep that tub is!! Once you get the breeding going they go nuts! I started with on pond! I now have 5 ponds!!
I remember watching one of your medaka vids a year or so ago! They’re definitely going nuts now, I’ve had my female produce over 300 eggs!
Nice! Great video
Thank you :D
Lookin good buddy
Thanks!
Happy fish! 😍
They’ve been enjoying their new digs!
Rất tốt bạn của tôi. Làm việc chăm chỉ hơn để bạn có thể đạt được những điều lớn lao hơn. Tôi rất tự hào về bạn.
Wonderful video and audio. What camera did you use to film the underwater takes?
Thank you! I just use my smartphone to take videos. I have a waterproof phone case that allows me to record underwater! Thanks for watching!
Love the bird songs and all the pond footage! Have you tried breeding them yet? They are so gorgeous! 😍 My platinums (miyuki) have been doing great with clumps of Java moss , which I just move to a second pond every two weeks or so. I’ve got too many fry to count now😅
Thank you! They’ve been breeding for me the past month or so! This video was filmed in February when it wasn’t warm enough. I have a video lined up showing my female holding eggs, her biggest clutch so far is 42 eggs! I’ve mostly been sending my eggs to friends to raise as I haven’t had a dedicated tank/tub for my fry. Thank you for your support!
@@unso.fish.ticated1490 wow!! 42!!? That’s insane! Haha have your friends had any luck with them hatching? Very cool :) I look forward to seeing the next video!
@@peteriverson4682 Local friends report great success but the eggs I send through postage seem to suffer from fungus. I recently split the clutch of 42 into 4 different treatments to see how I can prevent fungus. I lost 2 of 3 females due to a mishap with a heater in the winter so I'm a bit slow on egg production. I've finally set aside a 20 gallon to raise fry, hopefully I end up with a lot of future stock!
@@unso.fish.ticated1490 ah I see. I’ve heard of fungus being a problem. Some folks apparently use methylene blue as a preventative measure(?). I’m sorry to hear about your heater mishap! My adults are in an indoor tub near a window with Java moss and no filtration except an enormous pothos growing hydroponically. My fry go into a smaller outdoor tub I’ve got with lots of plants. Hopefully there’s a lot of micro algae and small organisms for them there, although I do feed sera fry food twice a day, too. No fry ever appear with the adults so I assume the adults eat them quite quickly.
@@peteriverson4682 Yeah methylene blue is what everyone uses but I'm cheap and am experimenting with a medicine for ich haha! It contains malachite green as its active ingredient, also an anti-fungal.My medaka are outdoors and thus display variation in egg laying depending on the weather. I'll be keeping fry indoors just to have more control over their growth. Fingers crossed!
Beautiful!
Thanks!

what do you feed the shrimps with?
I don't specifically feed them but some medaka food always ends up at the bottom of the tub. I'll be revamping this tub soon during my move so I'll be able to assess shrimp health in a future video!
@@unso.fish.ticated1490 just curious if the shrimps are able to find their food in such a big tub.
