A suburb of South 24-Parganas, Ghutiari Sharif is known for the shrine (resting place) of Pir Ghazi Mubarak Ali, a revered 17th-century Muslim saint. It also reflects the secular character of Bengal at a time when religious polarization is the dominant narrative in India. Hindus and Muslims, people of all faiths and religions flock to this place in large numbers. Legends and folklore in Bengal are often a part of daily life, transcending barriers of religion and caste. Many Hindu women with vermilion-stained foreheads can be seen dipping their hands in a pond in the temple premises, where people silently pray for the fulfillment of their wishes.
The place has a large pond which is considered holy and people pray at the shrine so that their wishes are fulfilled. Many women come here hoping for children.
The resting place of the Pir is in the centre of the square. The temple is topped by a mosaic dome with four towers.
This area was a part of the Sundarbans and was hit by a severe drought four centuries ago. The severe drought lasted for several months. It is said that Pir Gazi Mubarak Ali meditated intensely to bring rain to the area. The inhabitants were saved but this strenuous act of meditation cost the life of this holy man. The miracle, along with the tragic death of the "holy" man, is still remembered today. He is also said to have cured a Hindu king, Madan Roy, from a serious illness, after which Roy gifted him a large amount of land. The shrine stands on that land.
Since Pir Baba did not discriminate between people, the place still retains that secular tradition.
দক্ষিণ 24-পরগনার একটি উপশহর, ঘুটিয়ারী শরীফ 17 শতকের একজন শ্রদ্ধেয় মুসলিম সাধক পীর গাজী মোবারক আলীর মাজার (বিশ্রামের স্থান) জন্য পরিচিত। এটি বাংলার ধর্মনিরপেক্ষ চরিত্রকেও প্রতিফলিত করে যখন ভারতে ধর্মীয় মেরুকরণ প্রভাবশালী আখ্যান। হিন্দু-মুসলিম, সব ধর্ম ও ধর্মের মানুষ বিপুল সংখ্যক এই স্থানে ভিড় করে। বাংলায় কিংবদন্তি এবং লোককাহিনী প্রায়ই দৈনন্দিন জীবনের একটি অংশ, ধর্ম ও বর্ণের বাধা অতিক্রম করে। সিঁদুর মাখা কপালে অনেক হিন্দু মহিলাকে মন্দির প্রাঙ্গণের একটি পুকুরে তাদের হাত ডুবাতে দেখা যায়, যেখানে লোকেরা তাদের ইচ্ছা পূরণের জন্য নীরবে প্রার্থনা করে।
জায়গাটিতে একটি বড় পুকুর রয়েছে যা পবিত্র বলে মনে করা হয় এবং লোকেরা মাজারে প্রার্থনা করে যাতে তাদের ইচ্ছা পূরণ হয়। এখানে অনেক নারী সন্তানের আশায় আসেন।
চত্বরের কেন্দ্রস্থলে পীরের বিশ্রামস্থল। মন্দিরের শীর্ষে চারটি টাওয়ার সহ একটি মোজাইক গম্বুজ রয়েছে।
ই এলাকাটি সুন্দরবনের একটি অংশ ছিল এবং চার শতাব্দী আগে প্রচণ্ড খরার কবলে পড়েছিল। বেশ কয়েক মাস ধরে তীব্র খরার কবলে পড়েছিল। কথিত আছে যে পীর গাজী মোবারক আলী এলাকায় বৃষ্টিপাত আনতে তীব্র ধ্যান করেছিলেন। বাসিন্দাদের রক্ষা করা হয়েছিল কিন্তু ধ্যানের এই কঠোর কর্মের কারণে এই পবিত্র মানুষটির জীবন ব্যয় হয়েছিল। "পবিত্র" মানুষের দুঃখজনক মৃত্যুর সাথে অলৌকিক ঘটনাটি আজও স্মরণ করা হয়। তিনি একজন হিন্দু রাজা মদন রায়কে একটি গুরুতর অসুস্থতা থেকে সুস্থ করেছিলেন বলেও কথিত আছে, যার পরে রায় তাকে প্রচুর জমি উপহার দিয়েছিলেন। সেই জমিতে মাজারটি দাঁড়িয়ে আছে।
যেহেতু পীর বাবা মানুষে মানুষে ভেদাভেদ করেননি, তাই জায়গাটি এখনও সেই ধর্মনিরপেক্ষ ঐতিহ্যকে ধরে রেখেছে।
