India also has more mosques than many Muslim-majority countries, even after the country was partitioned because 90% of Indian Muslims voted for a separate Islamic country with Sharia law, as they did not want to live in a secular, Hindu-majority India. Despite the partition, the Muslim population in India has increased and is now almost the same as in Pakistan. Meanwhile, the Hindu population in that part of the world has become nearly non-existent. The real question to ask is: can two ideologies coexist peacefully in the same place without one consuming the other? One ideology believes that their book is the only truth, the ultimate and final revelation, and that everything else should be destroyed. The other ideology believes that every path leads to the truth, that truth can be sought in multiple sources, that everything leads back to the same source, and that everyone came from that source. If the first ideology holds a majority, can the second ideology exist freely in that country? Or is it only in countries where the second ideology is the majority that secularism thrives?
