Julia Hendrickson and Mako on New Creation Conversation 1
This is such a beautiful conversation. Thank you both. You have both been so incredibly spiritually formative to me in my middle age.
I love you Beth and Makoto!! I’ve taken many of your Bible studies, Beth, and admire how you’ve stood your ground and stood strong in the face of the politicization of the church and Christ. Christian Nationals look nothing like Christ. And as an artist myself, I admire your faith and beautiful art, Makoto. Thank you both for having this discussion.
💯 Thank you for voicing this
I'm so glad you & Beth finally met & sat down to have a conversation. I just knew you two would hit it off! I'm so thankful for you both.
Yes indeed. “(God’s) power is made perfect in our weakness”!
Doing things imperfectly purposefully and the beauty that can come from it has implications for so many areas of life
Very profound statements all throughout. Been wrestling with why God has given me this intense desire to make art and how to proceed in my art career, seeking wisdom from other artist(which isn’t bad) seeking even a bit my identity as an artist and what has been made clear in this video is that my identity as an artist doesn’t differ from my identity as a person. To help sanctify the world thru my art within the grace and uniqueness that he has given me. Thanks so much for the video, just ordered the book
So many things in the short chat resonated with me and where I am in my artistic/Christian journey. I often forget the artist’s value in a world that focuses on the practical and the immediate. Thank you for the thoughtful reminder of why what we do matters!
I didn't know that Emily Dickinson woke up at four, lol must be a family trait(she is a distant cousin) it's funny when those traits appear without planning it. thank you so much for posting these videos, I listen to them when I'm in my studio, they are such encouragement!
Yay for another New Creation Conversation!
I am just looking back over these soul-preserving videos from lockdown and the height of the pandemic to share with friends at Biologos. Mako, you helped so much to keep me sane during that time. Thank you. God bless you.
Jonathan Edwards Art & Sense of the Heart & Rudolf Otto's Idea of the Holy both talk about the non-rational elements of "knowing"....about speculative as opposed to experiential knowledge. How do we know? It is a huge question. Appreciate this discussion!!!
Excellent dive into Rothko.❤
And yes this does appear as a slab of bluish grey.. no words can possibly prepare one .. I speak Ftom experience.. I hope you get to experience his work in person!
Please add link to his book as i searched for it and cant find it or the early release of it?
He is still working on it. Release is late this year.
I've always wished I could see your paintings in person, but of all of them, I'd have to be in the room with this one even to *begin* to experience it. As you point out, digital representation kills it--on my screen it's just a slab of bluish-greenish-gray. But listening to your conversation ("about" this painting only in the sense that it shared the realm of thought and art and beauty and action with it) has helped me to come to an understanding of a passionately important area of my writing that has been tormenting me for a very long time. Thank you so much, just for sharing, and letting each person breathe in whatever that individual needs! And on another, but harmonizing, note, if one is scarred enough, one can eventually become more gold than clay. And all the past pain can become a gift, thanks be to the One.
Awesome, just shared Isaiah 40 with friend and encouraging her with those last few verses “they will mount up with wings like eagles” I drove she and one other artist friend to Berry College to see your exhibition there and they were moved, inspired as a result. Thank you for all that you do 👍🙏♥️
Love, “crushed by hope” grace chases us ❤️
Your work and words are so encouraging to me. God has blessed me through you.
Excellent intuition on the tech and how faith ties in. We must also continue to learn as well and these "tools" act as assistants and we must consider how to use them in our own contexts carefully
This is really insightful, helpful and important to me, thank you so so much!
Beautiful. Thank you.
Thank you very much for sharing. This is the first time I have heard Mary’s story explained this way - it is beautiful and a great catalyst for resolving some of the challenges creatives experience. So timely for myself as an artist that had laid down my art for many years in pursuit of other things. The Lord, ever faithful to His creation, has brought me back full circle to art once again - back to my area of gifting and purpose. Your talk has helped my resolve to continue - many thanks.
I started reading this book today and I anticipate what insights I can glean and incorporate into my own creations both as an artist and as a Christian.
it's a beautiful sharing, a lot to reflect on, thanks!
It is so encouraging to hear you both speak about how even the time spent out of the studio still effects our art. As a soon to be dad I’ve been very anxious about how I will find time for my art in the midst of my new life, and hearing that time away from my sketchbooks and drawing table will still help me grow as an artist - and by proxy as a person and Christian - gives me a lot of peace. Very grateful for your words.
rest is good :D
Lovely and interesting views. Something to meditate on. Thanks for sharing ❤️🔥🙌🙏✌️
Thank you Marko, may this year be full of Genesis moments, moments of healing body, mind, soul and spirit. Renewal of our entire being. We step into the unknown with the power and presence of God in us and with us.
Thank you for sharing, it provides insight from someone else's perspective. Season for generative renewal. 😊
God loves me. You explained what I was thinking recently. Thank you!
TRUTH is a person. His name is JESUS +
amaziing content! do you want more subscribers?-friend!))
Thank you for sharing
So glad you are calling art enthusiasts towards beauty in art! Truth is truth, and creative beauty is all inspired by God wherever it is found. God bless you both.
Less than 1% of Japan is Christian. Sounds like a country that needs Jesus to me. To much of missionary organizations are only based on socio-ecconomics instead of spiritual need. I love Totoro. Thank you for pointing out hidden biblical values in Japanese culture.
「エコシステム」の話が出ました。文化のエコロジーとともに、環境危機の昨今、自然、被造物のエコロジーの観点からも、日本画やアートを考えていけそうですので、13日のトークイベントでもそのような観点からの示唆もいただければ幸いです。
Wow, I am so glad the UA-cam algorithm recommended this video to me! What a wonderful thought to have shared. I had no idea who Makoto Fujimura was until I just Googled you and I feel very privileged having watched this. Thank you!!!
God bless you two in the new year!
A much needed lesson for me. Listened to this as I began making a pumpkin pie!
Thank you for reaching out. ❤
Wonderful wording & applicable~ "Genesis Moment"...love it! Thank you for the share.
A happy new (and generative) year to you, Mako and Haejin...
This is a very timely subject for all artists. We all go through times of insecurity regarding the value of our heart's work. Thank you for the encouragement that we need to continue our holy calling.
Border between UK and Scotland - hopefully not prophetic! 😊 Great talk, though!
New creatures. Sharing with Christ His death and resurrection. You are verbalized ideas I have known but have been afraid to speak. Thank you. I am empowered to speak this Truth!
Knowing Jesus, sharing his death and resurrection.
Thank you. Brilliant.
So beautiful … “you talk my language” It’s a blessing 🌷
Thank you! Lovely!
It is so refreshing to see a video like yours, art from the heart and deep faith, without empty rhetorical speeches. Thank you for sharing that moment with the contemplation and painting of the flower, with all the beauty of reflection. Greetings from Brazil (although I am from Chile) where your book Arte+fé was recently published, which of course I am reading and appreciating very much.
