Hi, we’re SE & Danny! We're songwriters and music producers, as well as newbie homesteaders. After Covid, we left the big city for a very small town in Tennessee and found a little plot of land to call home. We’re learning how to set up our homestead (by error mostly) while keeping permaculture principles in mind, so we can regenerate our land and turn it into a functioning homestead and artist retreat.
We've written and produced songs for artists like BANNERS, Josie Dunne, OCTAVIO the Dweeb, Norii, Dylan Conrique, Courage My Love, Jon Bryant, and others-as well as had songs in TV shows like Grey's Anatomy, Shameless, Sweet Tooth, The Good Doctor, American Idol, ad campaigns for Fox, Snap, and Dove, and many more.

quelle temperature svp pour le tempeh?
I'm torn about buying this. I hear great things about the collar (60 days, 90 days into use) but the ppl who have experienced issues and had to warranty their collars, it sounds like Spot On is a nightmare to deal with and are difficult to get ahold of. That doesn't seem to be your experience though. I would need two collars, which would cost about $2600 Canadian so the poor reviews on customer service and warranty are making me nervous to buy. How is your collar now, one year later?
Our experience with Spot On has only been good, even before we partnered together for this second review. Our first video is super honest and critical about certain issues, but the response we got from the company was always helpful. The second edition fixed a bunch of the weak points, and now in May 2024, the collar is still working great for Esmy. She has free rein of 30 acres, and is doing well. Btw, collars are $999 right now, and you can get $25 off with our code in the show notes. So technically only $1950 USD for two : )
We just purchased this… hasn’t even arrived yet but I have a question. My in laws have a farm and we will be making their property one of our fence locations. Will they be able to still use this collar when dog sitting for us, without the app, or will they need the app? It sounds like once I set the boundary and save the fence (and once dog is trained), we should be good to go with just them having the collar and charger?
Hey Shaunna! To change Fences from your home to a separate location, you'll need to change it within the app, so it knows which Fence is active. Technically, if you drop off the dog at your in-laws, and change it to their fence before you go, they won't need the app for any reason. Would be advised to make sure your dog understands that new fence's boundaries before leaving them.
I haven't put the static correction hwv the beeping and alert went crazy while training and kept ringing long after we were well in the safe zone. That makes me very weary about continuing...Id be so upset if that were to happen WITH static correction like it did with your dog. That is scary n unacceptable.
Why did it take you six weeks to train your dog?
She had some difficulty with a few things, but Spot On hooked us up with a trainer to work with those issues by phone. It's been so long, that I can't fully remember.
The vinegar acidifies the soybeans to impede the growth of unfriendly pathogens. If you add some rice flour that helps perk up the spores by giving them something easy to digest before moving onto the soybeans.
No need to dehull...
Supermarket tempeh is gross by comparison. Once you try home made I just couldn’t go back. It’s so incredible
Do it with lentils
The vinegar kills the bad bacteria
Regarding the defining the map boundaries....with the latest version of the collar and app, you can now draw the boundary of the map on your phone app without walking the perimeter. I only have 4 acres but the back of my property is full of brambles and the app made it super easy. Regarding the static level, it sounds as though you could reduce the static level or turn it off all together since she seems well trained on the sounds.
i am so happy i found this! i cant wait to try this!
Love this clip ❤🙏 I’m making tempeh tomorrow and just found your clip. You’re a pretty lady, looks a bot like my best friend also (blond hair and beautiful eyes).
Our golden ret3puppy is 11 weeks old, is that too young for a spot on collar?
Spot On says the fence can be used for a puppy, but advises your dog be fully grown before using the collar, and 6 months old at least until static correction is used.
Great ideas! How did it hold up?
It held up really well the whole first winter until we got a few inches of snow. The black plastic tubing wasn't strong enough to hold up without bending, and stayed warped even after the snow melted. (We continued to use it for the whole next winter though!) If you live in an area that doesn't get much snow, then it would be fine, but in the future I think we will spend a little more money to use traditional PVC since it's a lot stronger!
As an Indonesian, I give this video a super like. The process is right, the result looks great. I can tell it’s perfectly fermented. And the fact that she used banana leaves just like how we do it traditionally in our country makes me like it even more. I would definitely buy and eat this tempeh she made.
Thank you so much! This is the ultimate compliment. 🥰
@@firepinkfarmtnSweet! You deserve ultimate compliment 👍. Next time try not to use vinegar. Let it acidify and ferment it naturally.
It should be pronounced "temp-uh"
Nope… she’s already pronounced it correctly! 😂
Turn off static and use tone and vibrate only. That will eliminate the risk of shock.
Here's a better hack. You don't need to remove the hulls. Really.
I'm always willing to try an easier way, so I will definitely try leaving the hulls on next time!
@@firepinkfarmtndid it work?
The size is rediculous big for mediums and small dogs
Thanks for your comment. Our little Esmy is super comfortable with it.
Thank you for your detailed review. Your candor about the pros and more importantly the CONS was very helpful.
Thanks for watching! Appreciate you taking the time to comment.
I appreciate your opinion and efforts. I will try spending the time with my dogs to orientate them to my property. I was looking for something temporarily for a day or two camping in more urban campgrounds. The cost is a consideration.
Thanks, Kevin! The price has since lowered, and you can grab it for $974 with our link and code.
What happens if you leave them on? i have been told that i need to skin cucumbers to make IE mustard pickle, and it made no diff to leave skin on Also tomatoes need to be skinned to make soup etc i am way too lazy and the soup and pickles were great Also, about your "incubator" , can i ask which one that is and what temp you used? i have read the unit you use needs lots of airflow. Does yours have lots of airflow? If i can't find your incubator, would a dehydrator work as well? Excaliburs are expensive, but i see others are affordable i am chuffed to do that. Your tempeh looks amazing and had me craving PS i have no idea where to get banana leafs,i will need to research Are they reusable if washed and refrigerated? Thank you mate
Thanks. I didn’t see you remove the hulls. Did you ever try it BEFORE cooking them (usually what people do)…..? Would like to actually see how you removed them
Finally- A review that cuts through a lot of the weeds. My biggest question is, did you find that Esmy was nervous when trying to take her for those walks when she was walked towards the boundary even with the collar off her neck or the fence deactivated? I understand that she wouldn't hear the warning tone so should feel safe going through, but I am interested to hear what her reactions were.
Thanks for the compliment! She seems to FULLY understand that when the collar is on, she has a limited boundary. Likewise, when it's not on - she knows she can walk with us without getting warned. I think right around the time the collar was new, she was a little nervous at first about going on walks.
Great tutorial! Did you stop heating when the soy beans started to produce heat?
Not a small purchase or a small collar.
Thanks, Dale! You can now get the collar for $974 with our code and link in the notes!
Menu tiap hari kalau di indonesia..enak.puool
Have you ever taken one of those packs and turned it into a starter pack . It's called to leave in the incubator another day with lid up. I love your hack and banna leaves. Yeah, there's a guy whoshowed how to never buy a starter again. Im gonna try the dehydrator. Ihv a really good one 9 shelves, wish me well.
Thank you for this review update! Very helpful!
Thanks so much for watching!
Nice tempeh and set-up. Vinegar is actually a "cheat" to lower pH that make it easy for the mold and hard for bacteria. The traditional way is to cook the beans and leave covered (sterile) for approx. 24 hours to ferment naturally. The flavour profile is 100x nicer the natural way. There's a book called The Book of Tempeh that has every detail.
Danke für den Buch-Tipp!
Thanks for watching, and thanks for the tip!
Thank you There are a few books with that name Which one is it here? Thank you mate www.google.com/search?q=he+Book+of+Tempeh&rlz=1C1RLNS_enCA1080CA1080&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
What you said is 100% true. I’m Indonesian and in Indonesia we don’t use vinegar to make tempeh. However, I understand the climate in 4 seasons countries is different and vinegar can be used to speed up the fermentation process. You also can use rice flour if you don’t want to use vinegar. I wouldn’t recommend using ACV because it makes the tempeh stink like smelly feet
I loved your video- much more economical. This is a year later- how did it work out? I'm trying to locate materials to set up my beds thanks for the great video
So glad this was helpful! The garden bed covers have worked out amazing-we’ve even been able to reuse the plastic two years in a row. The only thing that we’ve noticed is that the black plastic tubing sags a little after time, especially after a heavy snow or ice weighs down the plastic. Next year we might replace it with pvc, which we’ve heard is stronger!
No mention if you called the company after your dog was basically tortured due to an unacceptable malfunction. Did you call them? If so, what did they say? I'd be FURIOUS.
Would single spike also be better for hard ground? Do you have any recommendations for most durable netting?
Yes, absolutely
this thing only beeps? No zappy?
It has both
Hey! Do you know if it works as well with streets? I plan on using it for my cat, he got hit by a car and luckily survived, but now I‘m very concerned for him and would love a barrier so he never crosses the street again
Hi Laura, sorry to hear about your cat! I wouldn’t recommend it for any space that isn’t your personal property. I also believe it’s only meant for dogs.
for that price I can just build a fence and save money; no thanks😂
If you can fence 30 acres in a way to keep out a dog for under the price of a Spot On Collar, you're hired! We'll fly you to Nashville and pick you up from the airport.
Could this device be used on pet rabbits?
I wouldn’t try it on any other species besides a canine
Her: “I refuse to cleanup my kitchen for you guys..” Me: INSTANT FOLLOW! It’s the realness for me!🙌🏾
Haha, thank you!
Just curious, how old is Esme? Our dog is 6 and looking at this
She’s 3 right now
I recently purchased the spot on collar and I pray that what happened to your dog doesn’t happen to my dog.
I think you should be fine, it hasn’t happened since
Will this work in snowy and no sun conditions?
Yes, had worked through all seasons for us
The malfunction your dog experienced is very concerning.
We know, it was scary for everyone involved but hadn’t happened since
Try that on a Pyrenees 😂
Oh heck no! We know it wouldn’t work on one. We have a sweet Great Pyrenees but she would wander for miles if we let her. Thankfully, she stays in with our goats inside moveable electric fence. Only broken out once to get a bobcat, and another time when we brought new goat babies home.
We know GPs can be stubborn, but we have many Pyrenees using our system. It does require training to get them used to staying within the boundary.
Thank you so very much for sharing your wonderful video & your fabulous hacks! Many years ago when I could still tolerate soy, I made my own tempeh in a stainless sheet pan & incubated it in my apartment sized gas stove that had a pilot light. It was too hot, so I propped the oven door open just a bit w/ a canning ring til the temp was just right. Back then I didn't know about removing the skins, I just mashed the soybeans w/ a fork. I really like your use of the food processor. And I like the banana leaves too. One of our local Asian groceries has them frozen, a wonderful way to get away from plastic next to the tempeh. My directions said to mix the spores with the vinegar & then sprinkle over the soybeans, combining well. When the soybeans were generating their own heat, I took the pan out of the oven to place on the counter, still covered with a damp towel. It stayed there til there was a nice, thick, beautiful white mat yours. Always perfect, always delicious, never any flops! Thanks again!
Thanks so much for watching, Marie!
Go to Home Depot and get a bunch of little flag markers like electric company uses to mark where not to dig and place them around your perimeter it’s a visual the dog will eventually recognize and remember the lightning is close. After time you can pull some until they are used to no flags.
Spot on actually provide a bunch of flags for the training process!
From 7:00 forward is exactly the reason why you never ever use shock for dogs and why it's never justified. What an absolute terrifying experience for the poor dog.
Thanks for watching, Sanna. Yes, it is terrifying and we do address it. Thankfully, ever since Esmy has never been shocked again! She also hasn't escaped, gone to the road, or anything else, thanks to this collar.
sad you still have to walk the boundary...seems like coordinating with google earth you could set it up in the app
You can change boundaries with the app now!
Thanks for the honest review. Thinking of getting one as our 9 month old Vizsla keeps running through the poison oak on one part of our property and rubbing it off on my legs. We’re on 8 acres and we’d probably only do it on 3-4 of those acres.
Thanks for watching, Robert! Ooh yeah, this would be great for keeping your dog out of a certain area. The cool thing, is you can block out certain areas temporarily or permanently. Also - remember to use our link and code in the description to get an extra $100 off!
I cannot get this collar to connect to Bluetooth to save my life. So aggravating
First or second Gen? The first one is difficult to connect, but it’s been fixed in Gen 2
@@firepinkfarmtn second generation
Hmm, I’m not sure as it’s super easy for us to connect! Definitely don’t be shy to use customer service.
