[ASMR] Baseball Trivia, Pt. 5 ⚾️ 🤔 (Soft spoken male voice)
This ASMR video features baseball trivia in a soft spoken male voice, for fun, relaxation and to help you sleep.
In this 5th installment of Baseball Trivia, I try to answer Multiple Choice & True/False trivia questions about the Mascots and Managers of Major League Baseball. Play along and comment below with how many you get right - you might even beat me. If you know anything about baseball, you probably will. Sit back, relax, and test your knowledge or just hang out and learn about these two parts of the baseball world.
If you missed them, here’s a link to the previous 4 Baseball Trivia videos: ua-cam.com/play/PLAZC3EsMiKlCzC7VHJV4tyI3aqxBdF2Jr.html. And if you enjoy this video, feel free to like, subscribe and/or turn notifications on, any of those would mean a lot as I build my channel.
Note: I had camera issues again for question 18 and the answers to questions 16-18 in the Managers chapter. The audio was fine so I added title cards so you can still follow along.
Thanks for stopping by and play ball! ⚾️ 🎧

    • Excerpt from The Athletic article on the Oakland Coliseum that I mentioned: “The African American Sports and Entertainment Group (AASEG) - a Black-owned, East Bay-based development group - has agreements in place with the co-owners of the Coliseum complex, the A’s and the city of Oakland, to purchase the property for a combined $230 million. "In a news conference last week... AASEG co-founder Ray Bobbitt laid out his group’s hopes for the future of the Coliseum complex... AASEG envisions a housing, business and entertainment hub at the site that it believes will revitalize East Oakland. No plan has been finalized, though sports are meant to be part of the final vision. An arena is expected to be included in the redevelopment plan. "Regardless of how the plans evolve, the Oakland Roots and Soul SC [smaller soccer clubs]… intend to be a part of it.” • Tweet with specs on how the field will look for soccer: x.com/oaklandrootssc/status/1826666285633339566 • The Athletic article about the future of the Coliseum: www.nytimes.com/athletic/5749162/2024/09/11/oakland-coliseum-athletics-roots-soccer-team/?campaign=10982876&source=thewindup_newsletter&userId=2259857

      Balks only affect runners on bases moving up, otherwise they only affect the count of the batter, depending if there are runners on or not.

      @@BaseballASMR16 What about a batted ball hitting a baserunner in fair territory...the base runner is out and batter can reach first but not given a hit?????

    • @BaseballASMR16
      @BaseballASMR16 2 місяці тому

      most commonly results in the baserunner being called out, the batter being awarded a single, and the closest defender being given the putout. So it technically counts a hit on the scorecard.

      certainly is, even tougher in NY.... ideally Holmes should be a 7th or 8th inning guy bc the way he pitches he sometimes gets hit where the defense can't field + he walks guys. But he was good enough to be an All-Star this year and one before!

    Glossary of baseball terms used in the video (in order discussed in the vid). Definitions from Wikipedia/MLB’s website/Baseball Almanac • All-Star Break - Both leagues (AL & NL)share an All-Star break, with no regular-season games scheduled from the day before through two days after the All-Star Game, which is an annual game contested between the all-stars from the American League (AL) and National League (NL). Starting fielders are selected by fans, pitchers are selected by managers, and reserves are selected by players and managers. • Check Swing - A batter checks a swing by stopping it before the bat crosses the front of home plate. If he fails to stop it in time, the umpire will call a strike because he swung at the pitch. If he does stop the swing in time and the ball is out of the strike zone, it is a ball. • Benches-clearing brawl - A form of fighting that occurs in sports, most notably baseball and ice hockey, in which most or all players on both teams leave their dugouts, bullpens, or benches, and charge onto the playing area in order to fight one another or try to break up a fight. Penalties for leaving the bench can range from nothing to severe. • Dropped third strike - A dropped third strike occurs when the catcher fails to cleanly catch a pitch which is a third strike (either because the batter swings and misses it or because the umpire calls it). The pitch is considered not cleanly caught if the ball touches the dirt before being caught, or if the ball is dropped after being caught. On a dropped third strike, the strike is called (and a pitcher gets credited with a strikeout), but the umpire indicates verbally that the ball was not caught, and does not call the batter out. If first base is not occupied at the time (or, with two outs, even with first base occupied), the batter can then attempt to reach first base prior to being tagged or thrown out. Given this rule, it is possible for a pitcher to record more than three strike-outs in an inning. * Putout - A play made by one or more fielders that causes a batter or a base runner to be ruled out. In baseball statistics, a putout (PO) is awarded to a defensive player who (generally while in secure possession of the ball) records an out by one of the following methods: • Tagging a runner with the ball when he is not touching a base (a tagout) • Catching a batted or thrown ball and tagging a base to put out a batter or runner (a force out, or if done after a flyout, a doubling off) • Catching a thrown ball and tagging a base to record an out on an appeal play • Catching a third strike (a strikeout) • Catching a batted ball on the fly (a flyout) • Being positioned closest to a runner called out for interference • Runners at the Corners - runners on 1st and 3rd, with 2nd base open. • Blooper - A blooper or bloop is a weakly hit fly ball that drops in for a single between an infielder and an outfielder. Also known as a "bloop single", a dying quail, or a duck snort. • Get Good Wood - To hit a ball hard. A batter who "gets good wood on the ball" or who "gets some lumber on the ball" hits it hard.\ • Pinch Runner - A substitute baserunner, brought in during a critical situation ("a pinch") • Hot shot - A hard-hit ball (3rd Base is often called “the hot corner” because right-handed hitters tend to pull the ball to 3B/LF and are the majority of hitters, so a lot ground balls end up being hit toward 3B, many with some velocity behind them.

    Glossary of baseball terms used in the video (in order discussed in the vid!). Definitions from Wikipedia and MLB’s website. * Leadoff hitter -The first batter listed on a team's lineup card (in the 1-hole or the "leadoff spot" on the line-up card). * Ground-rule double - Under standard ground rules, there are conditions under which a batter is awarded second base automatically. If a ball hit in fair territory bounces over a wall or fence (or gets caught in the ivy at Wrigley Field) without being touched by a fielder, it will likely be declared a double. If a ball hit into fair territory is touched by a fan, the batter is awarded an extra base. * Bat Flip - A celebration in which a batter who just hit a home run flips/tosses the bat in a dramatic way, rather than simply dropping it as they start running. The practice is controversial - some players such as Tim Anderson and Jose Bautista have been subject to retaliation by the opposing team when they bat flipped after a home run against them. * Laugher - A game in which one team gets a large lead, perhaps early in the game, and it appears the other team has no chance at all of catching up. With nothing to worry about, the manager and team can relax. An easy win; a romp; a blowout. * Sac fly (sacrifice fly) - When a batter hits a fly ball to the outfield which is caught for an out, but a runner scores from 3rd base after tagging up or touching the bag following the catch. The batter is credited with an RBI and is not charged with an at bat. Also referred to as "sac fly", abbreviated as SF. * Curtain Call - The practice of a player coming out of the dugout to acknowledge the fans. The call usually starts in the form of a chant of the player's name ("Rusty-Rusty-Rusty" or "Ed-die-Ed-die-Ed-die") to honor the player for a home run, personal milestone, crucial hit, or, in the case of a pitcher, a number of strikeouts. No clear idea exists as to when the practice began, but its widespread use dates to 1977 when the Chicago White Sox started the practice.
