I have the same ringtone I thought it was mine for the longest time
Because they were really cool.
Cheers from Austin!
Normally I don't like reactors who try and interpret the lyrics and stuff. Usually it's "no, it's not that at all, it's this, can't you see that". Whereas with you it's "no it's not that. The camera guy is just trying to make the artist seem more dynamic by moving the camera as if they are on a rocking ...ship... relationship..., damn why didn't I see that." Take my like, I got my money's worth in this reaction.
Right on! Thank you, I appreciate that! I accept your like and I'm glad it was worth it
Suki Lie (Love Lie) is all about romantic betrayal...once again the pronunciation is flexible and at the beginning AG! sing " Suki kirai" which means "Love Hate". I get the feeling that this is one of AG!'s most personal songs and is probably based on some real events because it has a lot of passion. Thanks for reacting to the dance video because it highlights AG!'s ability to tell a story with dance.
Right on. Thank you for that clarification. I understand what you mean. I can see that. I love their dance videos more than the MV. Their dancing is so expressive. Their physical story telling is ipressive.
The drums that Geisha no Kanojo plays from the beginning of the song are
This is just pure genius 👍
Rather, I think that Moaning Mirtle is a Hanako type of situation... this is a 1950's Japanese ghost story. Great analysis, again.
This entire video is a major flex and social commentary boy Chanmina is different. She's a real one.
Enjoyed your thoughts on the lyrics...
@@clyntonkeel334 Thank you
Interesting take. I don't really agree though. IMO she just rattled off a bunch of feminist stereotypes about toxic masculinity and then claimed that she deals with anger INFINITELY more than the Hulk (not just a lot more, but INFINITELY) because of things like "cat calling" or know it all men (as if women are never know it alls)? That's ridiculous. Banner's entire life revolved around controlling his anger. This show was just another tiresome feminist soapbox. As the feminist trope always does, the woman starts out almost perfect and her problem to overcome is that she doesn't believe in how great she is because men are holding her back. Once I hear that garbage, I am pretty much out.
Fair enough. I understand where you're coming from. I don't deny any feminist tones but if you stop there I think it keeps you from engaging with the character and makes it easier to dismiss what she says without examination. A lot of women do have these fears and anxieties whether they are valid or not. if you think about their lives Jen has had a mostly healthy upbringing which has given her mostly good anger management skills where as Bruce grew up in an abusive house not allowing him to learn proper anger management skills. In The Incredible Hulk he couldn't even get aroused without potentially hulking out. While Bruce is right about certain things his solution is not Jens or the one she needed. The split personality thing is mostly exclusive to Bruce. Also the show isn't about her figuring out how great she was all along, it's about her learning to balance being a hero and lawyer. It's about her accepting all aspects of her life and self and dealing with changes she never asked for because the show still proves Bruce right and Jen wrong
@@DigitalRuler48 Wel thought out answer. I do think this part was a little contradictory though, "Also the show isn't about her figuring out how great she was all along, it's about her learning to balance being a hero and lawyer. It's about her accepting all aspects of her life and self and dealing with changes she never asked for". Figuring out how to be a hero and successful lawyer to me fits "figuring out how great she was all along". It isn't a compelling story at all to me. She's awesome if she's a hero, she's awesome if she's an attorney. I understand your overall point though and I can see why you would feel that way. They did do some balancing with demonstrating the Hulk having wisdom at times. I might be more accepting of your explanation if I hadn't seen so many other similar tropes in film and TV over the last 10 years. I loved the she hulk comics as a kid. I had a crush on her actually lol.
@@gametime2473 I can see how that may seem contradictory. What I mean is that her struggle is similar to Spider-Man or Dare-Devil hence why he's on the show because he can relate to he life much more than Bruce and at this point has a better handle on the life style. Sure her life is not as dramatic as Matt's or Peter and it's more played for laughs. I do get it. There are terribly over used tropes and this show isn't free of them. Though no genre is free of it's tropes, it's more so how they're delivered I suppose
@@DigitalRuler48 I get you, but Daredevil and Spider Man didn't launch into a tirade like this. In a 30 second clip she blamed men for cat calling, being in idiot that ignorantly demeaned her, then blamed her for being "emotional about it" and then maybe killing her. If they had set that up with a scene where it happened to her from some dude, that would probably work but as it is, it's just the same old identity politics attacking all men which I don't want to see in my entertainment. For you it's cool and that's fine. FWIW, I think the woman playing She Hulk was fine. I wanted to like the show.
@@gametime2473 I understand about identity politics being an issue and over the top in modern media. To be fair to the show there are a lot of good men in the the show and the people she learns from and help her the most outside of her best friend are men. Bruce, Daredevil, Pug, The costume designer, Wong. She's even closer to her dad and is more open and vulnerable to him than her mom. The bad men are cartoonish and over the top but it's a comedy so most of the characters are exaggerated. I wouldn't say the show hates men as a default because the women aren't all portrayed as perfect either.

SHIMI 🔥🤘💥 Legendary MtH feat. my favorite free spirited AG! Kudos MtH and AG! What an epic collaboration! Love Atarashii Gakko!'s versatility. They are never afraid to try new things and never let themselves be boxed in one style or genre only. New School indeed!
It’s always fun watching you enjoy another AG video. I do get a touch of cringe when I realize, “Oh no! He’s really going to attempt to decipher the meaning of these lyrics on the fly, slogging through the poor subtitles, lack of context, passing familiarity with the genre and in spite of the likelihood that the lyricist themselves would probably be embarrassed to have the lyrics read aloud in a quiet, rational tone of voice as you do. As always, you do a fine job, making reasonable and satisfying sense of the chaos. You also banged your head vigorously, as Suzuka commanded us all to do, showing you have a true grasp of the deepest meaning of the video. One fun detail in the choreography which is easy to miss: at the end of both Suzuka’s and Kanon’s solos, they thrust their fists under their shirts and thump it about like a feverishly beating heart - and so it is. However, in the behind the scenes videos they did with MtH, it’s clear that in addition to being a gesture of pent-up metal emotion, it originated in a sight gag on the name of the song, Shimi, or Stain. It’s the move that you make when you spill spaghetti sauce on your favorite blouse and reach for the Woolite. Something Maximum the Hormone and AG have in common, they both know how to put a smile on the face of the apocalypse.
AG has metal fans not because of this song but because of their style and substance. Shimi just reinforces it. Maximum the Hormone is a legendary band with a totally unique style. They are a deep rabbit hole as is the band who formed as middle schoolers covering their songs, Hanabie. Now Hanabie is gaining loads of fans world wide as well.
I can see that. That's interesting about them and Hanabie. I didn't know that. I have done some of their videos, it makes total sense
Glad to really see a lyrical breakdown on this. The AG collab works so well for the tone of it and how increasingly optimistic the lyrics slowly get as it goes on and commits to that idea of discarding the spiritual stains, with Kanon's quiet gracefulness really bridging between the deep raw vocals of Shizuka and Nao's firm mature style at the end. Real turning point lyrically is Ryo's section after Kanon's, and Rin's rap section. The progression of the imagery is really on point for this too. The small torii gate inside the filthy hallway MtH plays in, the shimenawa ropes hanging between smokestacks are a real beautiful display of contrasting traditional spiritualism with industrial/urban decay. The imagery changes as the lyrics change in tone throughout the song are really on point too. When AG are running through the outdoor hall, it's the first bit of blue sky we see, with AG on the edge of the urban scenery, flanked on one side by trees and brush, followed by Kanon's vocal segment that adds the traditionally garbed dancers and the piano, notably covered in ofuda, then the shamisen and flutes leading into Rin's verse. After Rin's rap is the first time we see MtH's members outside, dancing in the street in front of the large torii gate, and Nao's vocal segment takes place on the roof of a shrine that forms in the air above the stained urban sprawl. In the final segment of both groups singing together, the shrine remains in the sky, and behind it behind the streams of smoke we can see blue sky and light wispy clouds.
あなたの言語化も素晴らしい しっくりくる解説です!
Thank you. You are so right about the visual and tone changes through out. Also how the melody conveys the emotions as much as the words
That lady at the end is Nao, MtH's drummer.
Thank you. She has a great voice
Great analysis!
Thank you
Atarashii Gakko is the medicine for the itch! From what I hear MtH is obsessed with karma in this video and in general. You seem to be on point with your take.
Right on! Thank you. I do like how their two styles blend so well. You're right, karma was a big theme
Shimi is an old MTH song and this strikes me as a collaboration of different styles of music and also generations, but not vastly different attitudes. It works so well because the original version of Shimi had the slower more melodic parts sung by MTH's drummer Nao, so substituting AG! sounds natural - Nao is the woman in the kimono singing the final melodic part. AG! add some pop, rapping and dancing and some pretty awesome headbanging. The lyrics are pretty negative, but the ending actually feels pretty optimistic with AG! and MTH singing toigether.
Right on! I should check out the original version. This was a solid collaboration
Finding this is the first vid I've seen from you but instantly subbing because I think this is the fastest I've seen a reactor just immediately hit on the full message of a song like this.
Screw the lyrics man we can hear them, just enjoy the music.
Great review. Thanks
Basketball players. Toronto Raptors ❤
Do their song "FIRST" you will not be disappointed.
I always thought at the end of the video, Suzuka was the ghost who was running with the living people, but when she got near the light, she realized that she couldn't follow them.
That's good, I can totally see that. I like your perspective
You don't need to go line by line
That's true
Check out the new Maximum the Hormone/Atarashii Gakko MV for Shimi. Best collab of the year. Be warned, it is very metal.
Right on I will. Thank you, I will add it to my list
Just in time for Halloween season!
You're so right. I didn't even think about that
It is emily Armstrong, and she is great, so happy that linkin park is back ❤❤❤
To understand the song you need to understand that "별별별" (the title of the song) have two meanings, stars and weirdos. NMIXX was criticized by haters for being different to other idol groups (being weirdos) and they might have frequently got told that they should have done things this or that way ("square box" in the lyrics). So, this song is basically their response to those criticisms that they know they're weirdos but they are proud of it and don't care what other people say (stereotype) because they are stars (shine in the dark) and it's their time to rebel and go higher. The "see that" simply means they want haters to see that they've slain the stereotypes time and time again. They also want haters to follow and stick with NMIXX and they will get absorbed deeper and deeper. But you've got most parts. FYI, I'm not a Korean speaker but I've done my research well. Lol
Have you also seen NMIXX in Tiny desk Korea? it's a masterclass!!!
@@enzo-br7iu No I haven't. I will check that out

You take a song about realizing mature love and turn it into a song about an unhealthy relationship. What a buzzkill. /s You're probably right on some level though. Great reaction! If you want to try a positive Fujii Kaze song that you can in no way spoil, try "Matsuri", both live and MV are bliss.
I might have done that lol. I don't know if that was my intention but I can understand how may have come off that way. I think it's because I see love as a double edge sword of an emotion. It can be both selfless and selfish simultaneously. You would do anything for some one because you love them but you also don't want to let them go because of the same love. I think I was trying to speak from that perspective and how the intensity can sometimes veer into unhealthy or extreme territory. I appreciate your input and thank you for the suggestion I will add it to the list
check out sunburn by fuel bad day and hemmorage are also both top tier. such a underrated band. i grew up to my parents listening to them and still listen to them today now as a 28 year old father myself! your also literally the only shimmer reaction video on youtube btw, ive searched for hours with different searchs
Dude I know right! Sunburn especially is a great album all around. It's one of the those where no song is bad or lazy. from beginning to end that album is a banger. It's cool your parents turned you on to them. I didn't know others hadn't done this song. I will definitely cover more Fuel songs. I try to balance between what is popular, what I like, and what others don't usually cover to service over looked fan bases when it comes to reaction and commentary
Lyrics of Itadaki Mandy and Sunday is just word play with Japanese and English. Nonjapanese peaple can’t understand . Don’t take it so seriously. I choose you over three meals a day is Japanese idiom commonly used to talk about something people like no matter what.
Absolutely right
Right on. Thank you. I didn't know that
Suggest you watch the official video with the captioned lyrics.
Thank you, I will
This is the theme song for a Japanese series about young women at a school who are into video games (viewed as not ladylike). The lyrics about dying make sense when thought of as a video game). The lyrics relay the tension players feel when losing a game after getting close to winning.
I didn't know that. it makes sense when you explain it. They must be Souls players lol
As always, the unpredictable AG! slays with impressively energetic performance with a song that has very relevant message.🔥🤘 Better to watch their official mv also to have a complete feel of this dynamic song. Thank you for another great reaction video. For a little twist, you might want to react to the official music videos of their songs Hanako and Suki Lie.
AG! have been starting concerts with this recently because of it's high energy and I love it for the insane guitar and Kanon's and Mizyu's dance breakdown in the middle. I think the lyrics have a common AG! theme of being strong and not letting life's difficulties overwhelm you. Any reference in song lyrics to a "battlefield" always remind me of Pat Benatar
I love that you took the time to research the lyrics since this version doesn’t have subtitles. Ironically, I think the lyrics in this case aren’t to be taken too seriously. Song credit goes to Kenta Matsukuma, a prolific producer for the WACK label (now defunct?), which is known for their “anti-idol” groups, like BiS and BiSH (which is said to stand for Brand-new Idol Shit). I’m not knowledgeable enough to explain, or even understand what “anti-idols” are, but in this case, I sense that the whole concept of the song is “What would it be like if adorable Atarashii Gakko! were to do a really heavy song with intense music and loaded with dark teenage angst?” Of the three MVs they put out for this song, this is my favorite. It was done in the same town and with the same director that they did the “official” MV, which has them dancing/cavorting/emoting around the picturesque and sleepy seaside town of Tottori. That MV uses bucolic imagery and video effects in homage of the Beastie Boys’ “So Watcha Want” video to play with the gap between the wholesome natural setting and the existential distress of the music. As great as the official video is, this stripped down video, shot in the very everyday setting of the empty shopping mall offers the same sense of irony, but let’s us focus on their dancing, which is impeccable, original and fun. They each do solo turns which play off their individual personas: Suzuka - punk; Rin - tough and street; Mizyu - playful and pixie-like; Kanon - elegant and graceful. The real moment is the one you paused on, where they dramatically twirl their arms around in a style called Wotagei. This is a style practiced and performed by avid and disciplined fans of certain types of idol groups, usually using glowsticks for dramatic affect. In an interview, they said that Kanon did the research on it and came back to the group with ideas. If UA-cam comments are to be believed, even Wotagei fans are impressed with what they’ve done. Bonus point: for a good thirty seconds or so, there’s a little dark shape scurrying around the sign in the foreground on the right. Jury is still out on whether it’s a mouse or a windblown leaf.
Thank you. I try to be as accurate as possible. You have informed me on quite a few things I don't know how to answer it all. I appreciate it, it helps me understand more about what goes on and I love that. I will have to rewatch it to catch this mysterious figure
Seishun Wo Kirisaku Hado is to me the perfect balance of early AG’s more jazz, drum, piano and guitar sound (Koi Geba, Dokubana, Saisyu Jinrui) and newer AG sound like (Pineapple Kryptonite, Change or Nainainai). Of course add in one of my favorite choreography (only like Koi Geba better myself) and you get a banger of a song. Great breakdown as always.
Sorry that you found it boring and did not enjoy it. it was me that suggested it. There is dichotomy between the beautiful soft melody and the lyrics which are kinda wild. 😂. Sorry again.
@@gaspode7 I never said it was boring. I enjoyed it. Did it come off that way? I added the song to a playlist
I think it was because a lot of reactors really get into the rhythm and the flow of the song as well as Fuji Kaze vocal range and phrasing. They don’t focus so much on the lyrics and the way it contrasts with the romantic feel of the song. You caught that dissonance. As a reactor that pays attention to I figured you would notice that. 😊. I think the video ended before the song ended and the comment of that’s enough of that suggested a relief that it was over. I think there was even a part where in scrolling to go over the lyrics you went beyond the part where the song had played so skipped part of his singing. Thats what it looked like anyway. That’s why I figured you were not enjoying the song. As an analytic reactor I knew you would see stuff other reactors wouldn’t catch. What makes this song special is that it captures a mood and I think it is beautiful the way he sings it and I did not get the feeling at all from this video that you were enjoying that element. I really get the feeling you appreciate Atarashii gakko songs when you react to them. As an Atarashii gakko fan I love your reaction videos to their music. I did not get that same feeling from this video and that is why I felt a little bad having suggested it.
@@gaspode7 Don't ever feel bad for suggesting something. I end a lot of videos that way because I would ramble for 45 minutes if I didn't. It was me cutting myself off not so much a relief the song was over
I always enjoy watching your ATARASHII GAKKO reaction videos because there are so many details that you observed and explained that other reactors usually don't notice. Forgot to add in my comment that this is the theme song to the movie “What if Tokugawa Ieyasu was to become Prime minister”. Ieyasu was a shogun whose line ruled Japan for years. He was the last of the 3 great unifiers of Japan. It’s as if George Washington time traveled to the present day and became president again. The official music video for this song has subtitles in English and its theme is that Japanese people and by extension Japanese culture, needs to change. Even though the movie is probable a little silly and cheesy by western standards, I suspect it also has moments of great pathos and sadness. I kinda want to see it
Good observations. I think part of the lives is short segment is also about how people especially in Japan need to work all these jobs to survive and are working dead end/physically exhausting jobs. Atarashii gakko songs can have these deeper meanings despite the catchy pop rhythms
I really like your approach to reactions, pausing to point out the humor, and also to try to dig a little to get at the meaning, something that is worth doing with Atarashii Gakko. They combine the silly and the serious in a very unusual way. You did a great job of analyzing this one on the fly. As the “Power Ranger” types (apparently more inspired by certain characters from the Ultraman series), they are raising the alert about the malaise afflicting Tokyo (and the rest of the modern world). The alert summons AG in their giant goddess form, who, as you say, disrupts the status quo and inspires the populace with their spirit bomb. You got the important ironic point that switching jobs to “do what they love” didn’t solve their problem. They really had to change their attitude. There’s also a bit of wordplay to the song which doesn’t work in English, and that’s that Tokyo Calling is pronounce the same as Tokyo Korin, which would mean “descent on Tokyo”, as by monsters, but also as by gods, goddesses or other supernatural beings. Now, if only we could suss out the deep hidden meaning of Suzuka’s tongue gymnastics!
