Original art made by Billy Keith in Louisville, Kentucky at the Mellwood Art Center. Fresnel lenses are used to concentrate the sun into a 2000° focal point which immediately burns into wood. He’s been creating solar combustion art for 14 years and loves performing in public and making people smile. Welding glasses must be worn at all times to prevent eye damage. Woah that’s so cool
@@BrindleAuggiedoggy thank you! 😊
hell yeah, you get my sub!
@@wyeth1023 he’ll yeah, thank you! 😁
You know they do make smaller magnifying 🔍 glasses 🤣. Very cool
@@edward2448 ha! 😆 He has lots of lenses but he loves that 18 inch fresnel lens, it burns so fast on clear days! His signing lens is only 4 inches and makes much finer lines. His biggest lens is 25 inches.
I love owls and this was really cool. Good job 👏
@@D3VIOUS24 thank you! Owls are amazing creatures.
Bro that’s actually cool like what
@@MJ-20-30 thank you! He loves making art with the sun. 🌞

@@lordbobl88 thank you so much! Love ya back 🙂
Dude you have the potential to go massively viral. Stabilise the camera, do time lapse/speed up the playback, and add music. Or just do what you love man😊
@@DonHousiferBMI thank you! Upping the UA-cam video quality is definitely on the list. 😁
I'm a mural artist/sign painter near you. Paoli. Great work
@@toddstreet1734 hey neighbor! Thank you 🙂 We always enjoy compliments from other artists.
Holy macaroni this is awesome! Those look incredible. Amazing work!
@@r3gret2079 thank you! We are getting ready for Finster Fest in Georgia, only 12 more days! 😁 I wish I had a witty pasta-related reply besides he really uses his noodle…😆
@@solarcombustionart lol nice. Well, I hope y'all have a good time. Be safe
This is amazing
@@stat124 thank you 😊
I need that magnifying glass like that except 100 times bigger. World domination, here I come.
@@benjamintaylor4872 😆 that would be a heavy lens!
Super cool 😎 I have never seen this done before! Thanks for sharing. 🫶🏼
@@pnw_one_love thank you! We love sharing what we do, hopefully it makes the world a little bit sunnier.

Thank you 😊
😮❤❤❤❤
Idk who he is but that's a very sexy skill wtf
@@pattmahiney that is Billy Keith, my husband and solar combustion artist. Maybe I’m biased but I agree with you on the sexy skill thing :)
That is talent. I want one. Lol
Such a cool design. I also enjoy cooking with solar too, i once had a steak made in a solar oven and it was amazing
@@amelioravictoriadionyssia3323 yum! Now I want a steak… I tried to help my daughter make a solar oven for a project years ago but it was not too successful (that was before I started dating the sun man).
Oh I do like that tree it's lovely
@@nicoleperron3315 thank you ☺️
Very impressive!
@@healmac thank you 😊
I am so impressed...that tree is beautiful.
Turn that tree over till it SEEMS upside-down. It is not, really. Same tree, different seasons!

@@solarcombustionart he is magnificent
Beautiful.. 😍
@@traceymaiden thank ya kindly 🙂
Beautiful work. Are they wearing glasses while staring at the bright dot. I know I'd be seeing dots after looking at magnifying sun.
@@chrissuich7423 thank you, and yes he always wears welding glasses, this can absolutely damage your eyes. So if anyone wants to dabble in this eye protection is a must. 😎
GREEK FIRE
Wow
Right??
@@Melissa-r2e5u thank you 😊
I wonder if you can Cook food like that.?
He has toasted some bread and melted some cheese on some burgers 🍔
@@solarcombustionart If you concentrate the beam of light on the center of an empty cast iron pan and got it hot then put a burger in the hot spot then put the glass over the pan I bet it would cook that burger.✌️
Yes you can cook food, the difficult part is not to burn it. I found that rotating the food helps with that.
AI do it better 😂 Seriously great talent
My father used to do this. He was such an artist, but sadly, we dont have many of his works left. I love you, daddy! This is truly a talent that not many have or know of. May this art form live on. I know your soul is at peace. ❤
@@sarahmccollum3694 no doubt your dad was a special guy. ❤️
If you make a mistake can you flip the lens over and erase it?
That would be nice! 😁 Just have to keep moving forward when you make a mistake with this medium.
@@solarcombustionart As Bob Ross always say, there are no mistakes, just happy little accidents. 🙃
That's such a flex on the universe. Or I guess a humble acceptance of our miniscule existence and expressing it through our more powerful local source of energy that we orbit
Amazing!!
Thank you! ☺️
People like you deserve to exist. You discover things that your normal every day person would have never would of thought of to try or made possible. Your existence is important on this planet. Always remember that.
Thank you, we strive to make the world a little brighter. I love how my husband creates a magical space when he’s drawing with the sun that seems to give everyone- no matter how their day is going- a few moments of childlike wonder and joy. 🙂
@@tarnishedone1259 maybe serial killers? I don’t think they were trying to say people in general don’t deserve to exist.
@@tarnishedone1259 Hell has a special place for people who manipulate other people's words and look for the bad in everything. Seek help. You know what. Maybe you don't deserve to exist. How you like those apples?
...a slow close up...?...duh...
Well done. Was always wondering if this could be done. Someone beat me to it.
He’s been at it for 14 years but solar pyrography has been around for a long time. It’s never too late to start! Just remember to always wear welding glasses 😎
New plan, do this at music festivals in front of spunions and sell them, make millions
Great plan! He’s been to a few local events and if the sun is out it’s a magical time for all; he loves to burn names and melt pennies for kids and he’s sold quite a few pieces of art as well. If only we could control the clouds so it’s sunny on days we need it to be. 🙂 We’ve been talking more lately of doing some traveling next year and checking out some other events.
👍👍👍
forbidden pencil
That's hard on your eye
Definitely! It can cause permanent eye damage, he realized very quickly regular sunglasses weren’t enough protection and for the last 14 years he’s been wearing welding glasses.
Did he bring up The Wire at the end lol?
Hahaha yes, I’ve never seen it so we’ve been watching it.
@@solarcombustionart Hell yeah season 4 is legit one of the best seasons in tv history.
@@limjahey5528 we are on that season now!
I'd be interested in purchase
Hey there! Thanks so much for your interest, you can purchase through solarcombustion.art :) We also have an art gallery, The Sun Shop, in Louisville, Kentucky.
