    The Entity **isn't** the antagonist in the Dead Reckoning movies; **Gabriel** is the antagonist. Everyone **believes** The Entity is the antsgonist, and **their belief** is what drives the plot. But The Entity is not an actual protagonist.

Need more videos! :) Would love to see your process end-to-end... also, more details on your skeleton method would be fantastic. I know these videos take a lot of time and effort to produce - perhaps a live stream format will work? That way we can join in, watch you do it in real time and ask questions along the way? I find my writing tends to descend in to chaos pretty quickly - plot lines gets lost, characters get forgotten, etc. Also tried a bunch of different apps - OneNote, Obsidian, Apple Notes, Scriviner, Joplin, etc. Each has it's quirks and advantages. But none have really helped me stay on track. I've used Notion before for other tasks, but have not thought to use it for writing. I'm going to try this setup. isn't it a bit hypocritical to make a video complaining about an AI character in a movie when you use ai to do voice overs?

    • @TheOrganizedWriter

      Ai character is about building the story. This is videos with opinions and knowledge/experience. Different thing in my opinion.

    • @beacanwentfishn
      @beacanwentfishn 4 місяці тому

      @@TheOrganizedWriter that explains nothing besides what a youtube video is. I'm saying just it's kind of hypocritical to criticize something when you use the same thing your criticizing. Also, you say Ai character is about building the story but isn't everything in storytelling about building the story and a AI character in said story would be apart of it?

    • @TheOrganizedWriter
      @TheOrganizedWriter 4 місяці тому

      My point is that, as I say in the video as well, that I am not in any way negative to use AI as a character. I have worked as a software developer for many years and technology is something I like. Many of my favorite films have AI characters. It is what they have made that AI character in Dead Reckoning able to do, and how they integrate it into the plot that I don't like. That's storytelling. So since I am not negative to the use of AI character, I don't see how that is hypocritical in any way. It is the storytelling they do with that AI character I criticize.

    • @beacanwentfishn
      @beacanwentfishn 4 місяці тому

      @TheOrganizedWriter so I'm confused, you're fine with ai as a character which doesn't make sense but when ai is a plot point you have issue? I'm just lost at this point. Also why is there this need to use ai for everything today? Have we regressed as humans. Are we actually so doomed like what science fiction has predicted in the past? Probably not but it's really annoying today

    • @beacanwentfishn
      @beacanwentfishn 4 місяці тому

      @TheOrganizedWriter i should phrase my thinking like this. AI should be used as a tool instead of the main draw or it'll turn out like that scene in Christmas Vacation, nice looking turkey but has nothing to eat. I'm sure you have interesting ideas and ways to put them, but using ai to do a voice over feels like tripping before a race starts. Personally I feel like there is a disconnect from content creator and their content when I'm hearing an ai voiceover in a video. What I'm trying to say is try doing your own voice overs for a try. Unless you write your videos with chat gpt, because that would be cheating then

    Okay, so first... Love the video, and all the scenes, the mix of stock images as well as short clips from film and such. It's really high quality, and I love the feel/vibe. And I love how close you get to matching it to your script. Well done. But I feel like this video doesn't quite deliver on the promise of the premise. It's a great theoretical discussion, but it lacks any concrete examples. It does list examples, but it doesn't *show* any of it, what you mean, or how to put it into practical use. For instance "a basic outline" - okay. One person's basic outline is like maybe sixteen bullet points one word each on a post-it note. Another person's basic outline is 10 pages long, single spaced, written out longhand. I bring this up because on my last story, which should debut in September, basically went this way. I'd had the idea in my head for years. When my team proposed a short story anthology that this fit perfectly under, I jumped on it immediately. It took a few days of off and on pre-writing or planning. It just seemed to come together perfectly in bits and bobs. It wasn't exactly the most smooth piece of work. I worked on it almost feverishly, and in short order I felt ready to start. So I did. Scenes flowed with ease. I discovered one or two I had to add, but I knew what they were and why. The drafting process went fast. Scenes were tight, didn't meander, and I felt pretty solid about it. I'm waiting on beta feedback now. But at the same time I've started working on another project that's been in my head for years. Only it's not going in the same way. I feel like it's this lumpy, misshapen blob... thing.. that try as I might to pin part of the information I have written down.. into something more organized.. it want's to squirt and squirrel away from me. I feel like there's some disconnect going on. Or maybe it's just my ADHD brain is the problem and while the last project was easy to deal with... my brain just can't handle this one. And I don't know whyyyyyy. I'm not really doing anything different than last time. (Overall methodology.)

    • @TheOrganizedWriter
      @TheOrganizedWriter 4 місяці тому

      Thank you very much for your kind words and constructive feedback. It means a lot! And good luck with your first story! What genre are you writing in? I see your point. I focused more on the general thinking, and some more concrete examples might have helped improve the understanding of how this is different from the more traditional plotter or pantser approach. As a writer, I totally feel you on the chaos of building stories. I wrote my first novel in about three years, then understood much more about the craft and was then able to see a lot of weaknesses in that draft of the book. In stead of doing a complete rewrite, I decided to learn more of my missing pieces of knowledge while writing the second novel. I first spent almost a year planning it (much longer than I thought in advance I would use), and during that phase was when I understood that I worked in a different way from what people usually describe when the talk about outlining/plotting and pantsing (is that a word?) while writing. That was why I wanted to make this video, as I see a kind of middle ground between the two, that does not have the limitations people on each side of that polarized debate talk about being the weaknesses of the other side. But after completing about 80% of the second book, which I believe have a much stronger foundation than the first, I suddenly understood that I might be the kind of person that actually will enjoy writing screenplays more than novels, so now I consider rewriting the second book to a full feature screenplay. 😅 So total understanding of the chaos from me! By the way, have you seen the other video (linked at the end of this one) about Notion for Writers? I believe it could at least to an extend show a mord practical example of what the skeleton method means for the writing process.

    • @tearstoneactual9773

      @@TheOrganizedWriter- Well, first... I've been writing a lot since 2001. But it's all been in MMORPGs, roleplaying play-by-post forums, and the like. (And I've been a forever Dungeon/Game Master since the late 90's.) Which has made me very strong at characterization, description, setting/worldbuilding, scenes and sequels, and thinking on my feet. Plotting/structure is more... node-based. I've only recently come to really grasp story structure. (I used to feel like it was a straightjacket. Now it's just a ladder or trellis for all the story vines to climb on.) So most of the time I've been basically an organized pantser. Until more recent times. :D It's only been in the last few years I wanted to go for publication. My debut is a short story, or supposed to be short story. It's really more of a novelette in it's current form. "Hard Contact" (working title) - When a crew of the C.E.N.N. Vigilant pick up a distress call on the edge of the Epsilon Eridani solar system, Captain Evelyn Hartman orders her crew to investigate and attempt a rescue. But when they arrive they find an unimaginable enemy that confronts their very understanding of reality. Will they make it through, and can they warn Command of this new threat? It's a first contact story, when we run into an alien ship, which is not only alien, but magical. Completely outside of the scope of most people's knowledge or experience. It's kind of a cross of a number of different things. The Expanse, submarine warfare, a little Star Trek. People familiar with TTRPGs might see some RIFTS dna in there. I write all sorts of speculative fiction. Science fiction is one of my strongest, followed by fantasy. As for story types, I love espionage, thrillers, mystery, and action/adventure. I apparently have a strong military sci-fi streak in me too. As for Notion, I'm a fairly experienced Notion user. I did watch at least part of that video, but after a while I started getting a headache. It was a little toooo much organization. Fatigue was also probably a factor.

    • @TheOrganizedWriter
      @TheOrganizedWriter 4 місяці тому

      Sounds to a great extend similar to my favorite genres. I write close future stories that include technology as an important part of the world and story/plot. The notion video is just an example of how to build the plans, story and details fragmented and restructure as needed so the outlining does not limit creativity, which is a strength I believe in.
