Howe Sound Crest Trail (to the Lions)
The Howe Sound Crest Trail (HSCT) is a gorgeous route just outside of Vancouver, BC. I had a day off work to do a long run so did a portion of it, turning around just after The Lions to make it back in time for daycare pickup duties. Also added on a little detour up Christmas Gully to the top of Cypress Ski area.

A classic 100 mile trail run in Washington's Cascade Mountains. The race started well but ended up not going entirely according to plan, with hot weather causing challenges.

Running the West Highland Way, Scotland's oldest long-distance trail. Traveling 159km from Milngavie near to Glasgow, past the lochs and through the glens of the Scottish Highlands to Fort William at the foot of Ben Nevis. It is most commonly hiked in seven days. I was aiming to run it in one, though jet lag and an upset stomach due to travelling from Vancouver the day before made for a very lo...

    This is absolutely an incredible physical endurance and mental toughness. I am watching all WAM videos as I am trying to decide if I want to do it this year as it is under the UTMB now and that doesn't sit well with me. The music choice is perfect

      @@hajaraldouri5806 thanks so much for the nice words. The UTMB race that is in Whistler now is not WAM. There was some apparent funny business, probably mostly on Vail resorts side, which pushed out the local race director (Gary Robbins) forcing the event to be cancelled. They had been building the WAM weekend for years. After the cancelation, UTMB swiftly announced they were doing a race in the area on the same historical weekend WAM had and with it getting approved and planned in record time. This particular UTMB race in Whistler is probably one of the most controversial UTMB races anywhere in the world because of how it all went down. It won’t be getting much love from the local trail community. It is such a shame as the trails in Whistler are amazing and are crying out to be raced on.

      @@patrickhaunschmidt oh yes I have been reading all about it and trying to make sense of what has gone down but it seems that it was a numbers business. It is very unfortunate and that’s why I am very hesitant on signing up for it even though it looks like a stunning place to run. I am also trying to qualify for the UTMB World Series 25’ and that in itself has become a total monopoly by the UTMB. I might have to run the Kodiak in Big Bear instead. Hope UTMB consider restructuring their organisation to fit in within the sport’s morales. Anyhow, happy for you to have caught the race in its final run, keep up the great work and the videos!

      @@hajaraldouri5806 I would - the event in Chamonix look amazing. And of course you have to qualify. I personally don’t think I’d run the Whistler event given the history here and how it’s so close to home and impacted the community here, but I don’t judge others who do so. Whistler is an amazing place to run.

      @patrickhaunschmidt 4 місяці тому

      Thanks! I’m always buying hats at the merch table! I wore both a FatDog120 and WAM100 hat in this race. I’d say both of those were technically harder - FatDog has an extra 20miles and a good amount more elevation. WAM had a whole lot more elevation. But I struggled with a longer low at Cascade Crest. But that’s why we sign up for these things - for the challange.
