Great Video ! I'm a patient purchaser and research extensivley just like you ! ! Subbed ! ! ! . . . 😎👍
Thank you for kind words! Glad you liked the video :)
I find it funny that e-bike companies advertise their bikes using pretty young women. I've yet to see any women under 40 on an e-bike, and I don't see many young men under 40 either.
Would you consider doing a drop post install video with the Dual Star?
@@RidinRetired Hey thanks for the comment. I didn’t my best to talk through the installation in this video, around 2:57.
MANNNNNN!!!! Youre so busted! 😂.....This is most definitely a planted video 😲 and straight from the CEO of "hE Sells" Bikes himself! 😂
Do some more research. E cells has an F rating from the BBB and numerous complaints to the Federal Trade Commission about their business practices. The Owner started e cells while on Parole after serving 12 years for murder (vehicular homicide while high on coke). Moreover, they blatantly copied Wired and then slandered Wired at every opportunity. The new Wired bikes are MUCH more powerful and less expensive than e cells. No thru axle, no UL certification, and in many cases you pay but get no bike.
I Like1 that idea. Im 6'4" 230lbs a 34 in seam & I can see thats a good mod. Ive seen guys ride sitting on the rear rack [Ive done it on occasion, needed a stretch] the upright cruiser is my liking too. thats why my step thru has become my fav as its more comfortable. this set back gives me another option - thank you
@@bellyacres7846 That’s how I felt on my buddy’s Rad Runner-it was more comfortable to ride on the rear cushion on the rack than the actual bike seat (in terms of position)
very nice - Ive not gotten an ecels yet, but Im patient and waiting as I want the step star. some ppl are in a hurry & well Im watching and waiting in hopes the rush might slow. I have a couple other ebikes & did get the end bar mirrors. I like em. got mine on temu after I ordered other stuff that turned out fine I got the same that were on Amazon, but 5.59 and they actually are the same!?! when I get a step star Ill get some more for it. uh yeah my other ebikes are "legal" 750 watter that are for my rides in national parks & those federal trails. they are good for that purpose. ;)
I considered the Ariel Rider too but after considering how much I'll use it I went with an AMYET s8 for $1000. Best purchase of 2024!
The UA-cam algorithm cracks me up. As a tall person I have the exact opposite problem and have been researching "extra long seat posts". 125mm and it DROPS lower? GTFO. I've been looking at 500mm+ seat posts. LOL.
I purchased the ECells Step Star, but it was not delivered as ordered, and after numerous emails and phone calls, things are still not resolved. Their website claims "unparalleled customer service", but it hasn't been unparalleled in a good way...
Sorry to hear about your experience. It can sometimes be tough to get through, but I've always had a good experience working with their customer support.
@@AwesomelyRad I'm sorry too! For the record, I've had no problem getting through on the phone. Have gotten through many times. All calls end in "I'll have to run this by David Cleveland". But literally this happens with every single phone call. Most recently received an email from David Cleveland stating he'd contact me the next day. That was around a week ago...
@@AwesomelyRad I've had no trouble getting someone on the phone, but just no resolution. I also discovered that they have an F rating on Better Business Bureau.
File a complaint with the BBB and the FTC, seems to be the only way to get a refund.
Ecells 75 days later still no bite requested a refund November 3 didn’t get it requested a refund November 8 partial payment issued -$314. Get a wire is not worth a headache.
File a complaint with the BBB and the FTC, seems to be the only way to get your money back.
Wired Freedom is where it is at . 45 amp controller dual battery 60v . With a VSCO headset that bike is super solid.
I just installed a PNW Cascade model on a Ecells Super Monarch AWD and thanks to your video and speaking PNW rep Jesse, the 125 mm was a perfect fit and no need for "beer can" shim. I managed to a little discount for being a new customer. It's definitely a game changer and only make it safer for me. I highly recommend. 👍
Wow. I was headed in the same direction you went. It was the freedom, then the ecell dual. At the same time the bill goat. Keep thinking if I want the mountain bike or the moped style. yur reading minds.
I still really want a moped-style bike since they look so cool, but I think the mountain bike frame is way more practical, especially if you intend to pedal at all... (I also figured there are more options on a mountain bike frame to ensure comfortable ergonomics and whatnot...) Best of luck on whichever you decide!
I can’t have an original experience 😂
Can you please tell me what the seat height is when it's all the way down? I ordered a 17" frame and may need to change the order to 24" tires.
I'm not sure what the exact measurement is of the stock seat when all the way down. (I'm no longer running the stock seat, post, or mount...) FWIW, my biggest regret is not getting the 24" wheels... It would be nice to be an inch closer to the ground. That said, I recently bought some 26x3 tires, so now the bike will be about 1/2" closer to the ground...
@AwesomelyRad I originally wanted 24" wheels but decided on 26" for speed. The other concern was pedal strikes. I saw a video where that was an issue and it was solved with a 152mm crank. I figured a wheel that is 2" shorter might be a real issue.
@@antoniohillario9770 I was actually considering re-lacing the rear hub onto some 20" rims for a while, before I discovered dropper posts. (But I was concerned about pedal strikes, as the pedals would only be about 2.75" from the ground with the stock crank.) Personally, I wouldn't be concerned with pedal strikes with the 24" rims--even though as a whole they are 2" less in diameter, they're only 1" closer to the ground than the 26"s.
@@AwesomelyRad I'm considering145mm cranks. That would be an inch shorter and make up for the lower clearance.
How’s the suspension? I’ve been looking at the Billy goat v3 for a while now and it has a fast ace coil shock, same brand used on surrons, with slightly less travel. Do you think this bike can handle light to medium off roading without any problems?
The suspension seems really nice to me, but I mostly ride on the roads. Check out "Shoot the Chit" on youtube--he does a lot of off-roading/testing with his Ecells bikes.
Wow!! Thank you for this info! I am 5 foot 8 and I'm shopping between a Dual star and a Monstar with their 17 inch frame due to my height and riding position. I could do with the 19 inch frame as long as i use a dropper seat post, I'm not only limited to the step through or 17 inch frames now... Sorry I'm a noob, shopping my first ebike lol.
i just wish I had ordered one with 24-inch wheels I am old now and its hard for me at 5'10 probably never get used to the size you learn a lot buy buying other odd bikes we have an AWD amyet S8 and you learn why AWD e-bikes without complex controller are dangerous as all heck thanks for the great videos you are a very articulate creator I bought the 5 star for a similar reason
@@st1nkh3ad yeah, I also wish I got the 24” rims

@@ElijahAllen-fr2lc Thanks man, that means a lot! 😎. Hopefully more people will find my channel. Feel free to spread the word!
I know the bike is your favorite but I have a himiway cruiser for two years now and although it doesn’t have dual batteries or full suspension, my choice was easy for the price. I thought about others too but now I’m convinced it was the best $1000 I ever spend. Great video 👍
@@Xtrafix2015 Yeah, that’s a tough bike to pass up for $1000. Good to hear it’s a great bike!
Excellent video. Too many folks jump at buying Ebikes without doing their homework. I had pages of research before buying my Biktrix Juggernaut Ultra but the 5 Star is a very good choice also. I like that you thought about what you are going to use the bike for, then did months of research. Also, know who you are buying from and their service reputation. Great advice.
@@georgefelegy8607 Thanks! Totally agree on doing your research. How do you like the Biktrix Juggernaut Ultra?
@@AwesomelyRad It's my second ebike and I really like it. Not inexpensive but I got some extras on it. Better brakes, extra battery, rear hub and light. I changed the tires to 2.8" road tires from 3" off road tires and that made a huge difference. The bike is very powerful and has a very solid feel on the road. I feel like it's a small electric motorcycle which is what I wanted. I am impressed with the companies service responses so far. They seem ethical and the company is solid.
Thank you for reminding me to charge my battery for work later. Lol .. I am looking at the E-Cells Monstar or Dual battery Goat bikes Billy Goat. Have fun.
@@JohnBabcock-qy1cs I’m still really tempted to buy a Motor Goat, but figure I’ll see if they release a slightly more powerful one…
I love my Dual Star. I've added lighted pedals, a handlebar accessary bar, a Bluetooth speaker, and a Quad-Lock phone mount. I went with the theory of buying someone's cancelled custom order. I called up and they said they would be on the lookout for something that I liked. Within 2 weeks, I had a red Dual Star with black rims, torque sensor, RockShox suspension, and a few other accessories. I love my bike. I watched your video on the dropper seat post. The dropper will be next on the list. I'm in California also. I love riding it around the city and I'm finding more and more trails to ride on. I haven't seen anyone around my city to ride with, which is a bummer. I guess wind therapy will have to be the thing for now.
After considering buying ebikes for several months and then honing in on the Wired Freedom, I caught wind of ECells, watched some YT reviews and ordered my two Five Stars for the wife and I in June as I wanted to beat the tarriff caused price bump. They had in stock a red one and a blue one and that's what I ordered. I received one the NEXT DAY (I live in a Los Angeles suburb) and the second one the day after that. The bikes are awesome, solid and stable at all speeds and I ride several times per week and give this 77 year old a good workout. Loving the way it laughs at the all the hills around here. I take them out to my second home in Boulder City, NV and ride the awesome bike paths out there. The upgrades I've done are water bottle cages, bar end mirrors, flashing safety lights for the fronts and rears with horns and different seats. I also got brake rotor locks with motion alarms. Don't think you can go wrong with ECells.
Sounds like my story! Did a ton of research, was considering the wired freedom, finally decided to go with the Ecells five star, then upgraded to a dual star! Mine is a red 19” frame
In all honesty… how many days did you had to wait to get that e-bike from ecells??? Because I have been waiting for 100 days right now and still haven’t gotten it
I originally ordered a Five Star with some options on March 31st. Then I upgraded my order to the Dual Star on May 9. I got my Dual Star on September 1st. (Had I not changed my order, my Five Star would have arrived in July.) Hope this helps!
Call and see if they have any cancellations on orders. I called every couple of days, and they called me and let me know that they had one in stock. I had one in 2 weeks from start to finish.
Awesome work! I am very impressed with your audio, video and the content!! Keep up the great work!!!
Thanks-that means a lot to me!
Installed a pnw coast suspension drop post with the Puget 2x lever and wire kit today. Totally agree with every point you made in your video. I'm gonna love this thing.
Awesome!! Congrats!
Great video thanks!
That how I found my ebike, was wired freedom but was too big. Then found ecell 5 star was at 17inch. Then ecell came out with stepstar and that's what I am waiting on!!! Should be getting mid Nov!!!
Awesome! Congrats!
I have the same bike as you. I originally ordered just the regular Ecells with a single battery and original fork. After 3 months of waiting for my order, customer service called me and said we have a dual star that someone canceled on, would I be interested in upgrading. For a small fee, I was able to the dual star with the upgraded forks, and it arrived to me the next day. I live in Las Vegas and they are located in Pahrump NV. I also have upgraded many things on my dual star to customize it to my liking.
Awesome! Congrats!! How are you liking it?
Wow! This is fantastic information. I know what you mean about the size of the Ecells dual star. In person it's gigantic. I am going to seriously consider getting a dropper post for myself. I think it's a good idea. Thank you for sharing this information.
@@daveyJ213 Awesome! Thank you for the kind words! 😊
The monstar has what size frame? 1 or 2 sizes?
I subscribed and bought one as soon as I finished watching your video. You provided great value about something I never even heard of, thanks. I will be trying the suspension version.
@@boombstc1 Thank you for the kind words! Yeah, I can’t believe I had never heard of them either! Looking forward to hearing how you like the suspension version. 😎
I totally agree, I installed the same dropper post on my Kandi America Trail King MT750. I use it every time I think I might need to stop and or get off the bike. I have the cable run all internally and use a Wolf Tooth ReMote BellTower Dropper Lever to control it. Best upgrade I'd made to my e-bike! I did go with the 125mm length.
So I have done this on the Five Star without the shim. I am currently using a C9 seat. A couple of observations since changing to this kit; 1) I will never go back to not having it because of safety. 2) The seat angle has corrected my issue with seat comfort and made my issues, (self inflicted I guess) a thing of the past. 3) Even though I am a 6 foot tall person with a 32” inseam lifting my leg over a properly fitted bike with saddle bags was sometimes challenging. This issue has gone away now. 4) I can adjust height on the fly allowing me to adjust to my peddling needs and terrain. I will hopefully be able to use the very expensive suspension seat post I purchased for my wife’s new Step Star due in mid November. Thank you for posting this information it has made my ride even better!
So glad it's working out for you! 😎 Which c9 saddle do you have? I have a Bikaroo, which I think is similar...
Nice video, thanks. I get why your riding position is more comfortable and efficient after this mod. But I wonder about the added weight this shifts to the rear wheel. Have you noticed any additional "wobble" to your Dual Star fork/front end after doing this?
Not at all. In fact, I'd say it's the opposite. To me, the bike felt more wobbly when I was sitting awkwardly forward/vertical, and the steering was much more twitchy with the original riding position putting so much weight on my wrists. The relaxed sitting position makes steering so much more natural--like driving a car or riding a BMX bike as a kid. Not only is it more comfortable, but I feel a lot more confident and agile when riding.
@@AwesomelyRad That's good to know, thanks for this additional detail. I'm tempted to try both of your modifications, including the setback and the collapsible seat post. By the way, I appreciate the high production value of your vids, including the audio and editing, well done.
@@pjpinella Thank you for the kind words!! That really means a lot to me! ☺️
That looks kinda scary! I would be worried about bending it
Nice one!!
Im gonna try this today just got the part hopefully I have a carbon cutting disk for the dremel thx for the info great video
Awesome! Yeah, a dremel with a cutting disk should work perfectly! (That used to be my only cutting tool that I used for EVERYTHING.) Thanks for watching! 😎
@@AwesomelyRad worked great thanks I did it yesterday it helps a bit it was messing up my knee on the 5 star as I am only 5'10
@@st1nkh3ad That’s great to hear! Glad it worked out. 😎
Do you have a link to the seat post you used?
Sure, here's the link to the video where I talk in depth about the suspension post: ua-cam.com/video/OqKUYx9T14w/v-deo.html
weight limit?
I'm not sure, it would be based on whatever the weight limit is of the Gorix suspension spring. (In fact, I bet it would be more, since this mod no longer has the bend.) 👍
where did you find the bike seat rail set back? Need a little more room on my dual star and that looks like a good solution
I've got a whole video coming on how I "made" that setback rail, so stay tuned! 😎
Here you go--this is how I made/hacked that seat rail: ua-cam.com/video/DxOWZYNg930/v-deo.html
For the Loam lever, what clamp selection do you put? And you click yes for cable kit, right?
The Ecells dual star/five star bar is a 22.2mm. Yes, I bought the PNW cable kit (by clicking 'yes" from the loam lever), though you don't have to if you prefer to get your cable kit somewhere else. The PNW casble kit turned out to be the perfect length for my bike. 😎
@@AwesomelyRad Thanks again!
I also have a dual star. I’m considering this seat post, did you get the 31.6 mm? And if so did you need to provide some sort of shim for the 31.8 mm tube diameter on the dual star? Never mind found it at seven minutes into your video, thanks!
Just watched this video. Just placed my order for my ECells Five Star. I fell off my bike after stopping on a low hill. I am 6’ tall and find getting on and off difficult and the size of the bike is a challenge but to find yourself hitting the cement was a real shock. I need to order the saddle set back rail as well so please let us know what you got for this so I can order one. Now my hope is that the suspension seat post I purchased will fit the Step Star when it arrives for the wife! The handle bar diameter is 22.2 on the Five Star BTW.
Just put out a video on the setback rail: ua-cam.com/video/DxOWZYNg930/v-deo.html 😎
You really outdid yourself! Answered all my questions (other than the final total price you paid), and appreciated including your thought process: bang for buck, quality vs price, installation questions, details about all the different purchases involved. The only thing I wonder about is the next best bang for buck, money is always an issue! Thanks again!🖕
Wow, thank you so much for the kind words!! That really means a lot to me. So glad to hear you found it useful!!
Really great video! Considering getting a dual star next year; hopefully David will get the kinks ironed out on the second battery seating and unified charging.
Thank you for the kind words! I've been loving my Dual Star!
Excellent review video.
@@virtualrealitywitness Thank you so much!! That means a lot to me!
This is very helpful. And you're not short, 6 feet is tall, so to even say this for the 17" frame makes me believe it's a huge bike. I'm going to get this dropper seat too.
Thanks! I can't recommend one enough! I think my biggest regret is not getting the 24" wheels, because it would be nice to be an inch closer to the ground, IMO.
@@AwesomelyRad I get it, these are big bikes, but when you are riding them, they feel great. It's just when you are stopped and need to get going, or getting on and off. Before riding the five star, I test rode a kings crown (it only comes in a 19" frame) with David, and I was thinking, holy hell, this bike is huge, so the five star 17 felt perfect afterwards, and the step star (24" only wheels) almost felt just a tad too small. I'm 6'1. I'm looking forward to hearing about the seat you chose and why. I know nothing about seats like this and why they are better.
@@f1dog Awesome, stay tuned! I'll talk more about the seat in an upcoming video! 😎 Generally speaking though, unfortunately seats are kind of like shoes--you really need to try a bunch out and see what works best for you.
Thank you for this video. I asked in the forum about a range of different accessories, including a dropper post. I'm 5'09" and just wondering what size dropper I should get. You are correct, people like me underestimated the size of this bike. It is huge! I got mine about 2 or 3 weeks ago. I do the lean to one size method to get on my bike. Today, I received my light up pedals, Bluetooth speaker, phone holder, OC spray, a gallon of Flat Out, and my new Lumos Ultra ebike smart helmet. Can't wait for tonight's ride!
Congrats on your new bike! Yeah, I'm still not used to the size, especially when walking it--it's a behemoth! Assuming you're also looking at the Cascade model, at 5'9"--I would GUESS that the 125mm travel length would be the right size for you (I'm 6' and find the 150mm size just a tad on the high side.) And the 31.6mm diameter with the "beer can shim" method is the right move, IMO.
Great video. I just my Ecells Super Monarch with AWD -- anyone in here wondered where would be the best placement for the lever? My bike's hub selector is directly below the On/Off switch. Any suggestions for placement? Thank you in advance!
@@AndreHippo Perhaps move the on/off switch slightly inward, so you can put the lever between it and the grip? Or maybe you can angle the on/off switch to face up a little bit, and give enough clearance for the lever to fit underneath…? Hard to say without seeing it in person…
@@AwesomelyRadHey thanks👍. I'm placing an order for a dropper post after speaking with a PNW rep about properly doing measurements. Your video was helpful and now I'm going with the external.
@@AwesomelyRadI got the 125 mm and its perfect 👌. Thanks for your video. I didn't want to drill nor cut cables. What I got was perfect.
