He probably dropped his dusted joint
love dan's reaction at 13:29 when mike starts off the song like 20 bpm faster than album tempo
Mind Blowning Well Done and much much Mosh Fun
Yesssssss! I was here. I think this was in the student center on Douglass Campus. Great times ❤
The year hardcore punk peaked in this country, and before thrash metal and crossover blew up for good. Lou Barlow of DEEP WOUND said it best, though, that after 1983, most hardcore bands would either fully embrace the metal/crossover sound, or they would turn up the weirdness and experimental aspect and never look back. Guess which route DINOSAUR Jr. took? 👺✨🗡👺
thirty years after being paid by Ian MacKaye, they were still holding on to the cheques because they'd had a verbal agreement that they'd only spend the money to make more music. Ian eventually tracked them down and persuaded them to cash the cheques. i read this in a 2020 Guardian article called "$5 gigs, not $10m deals: the story of US punk label Dischord Records." which is what brought me here.
This is so great!
god I wish there were shows with this kind of high speed near me. I would love to just go wild in the pit

what’s the cover at the beginning??
no sleep by huggy bear
Wow looking for a wolf eyes vid but many good memories from this click.
Theyre so crazy i love them
Damn, genius. Their energy is unmatched. Wish i could have seen them live.
They’re playing 3 dates in April next year !! DC, Philly, and NYC
THEYRE TOURING RN
All those DC bands - Generation X!!!
I was there! Wow! Such a good show, Black Eyes always was… damn I’m old..
I think I see myself actually lol
are black eyes still active and making music or no? I only see that they’ve made two albums in the 2000’s.
@@krystalgogot back together last year after almost 20 years
the bass line on Deformative reminds me ... "Bela Lugosi is Dead" -- -:D
is Ian Svenonius the second drummer? Is it possible?
Nah I think that guy’s name was Dan, he‘s way younger than Ian
Maybe the most insane-sounding band ever.
There are much more insane sounding bands, but yeah, in 83, this kind of raw, unpolished, unleashed hardcore punk was so ahead. Insane energy.
So fuckin sick !
Kinda related, but does anyone have a mp3 or cd of Dan's band Horses?
The first song is a Huggy Bear cover
100 Thumbs Ups!!!!!
Why is there no earlier footage of Void - at least on UA-cam?
Not being sarcastic, but cheap high-resolution cameras not being integrated within cheap devices nearly the entire population owns, combined with them being pretty underground would be one reason, though for real I do know there's more than this in existence out there. Here's a sadly pretty low-res upload of an entire show of theirs from the same year if you haven't seen it: ua-cam.com/video/xCvWZS-N3q8/v-deo.html
Did you see the size of cell phones in those days?
Wow this band is from the 80s? They riiiiiippppppppppp
Just started listening to this band, any recommendations?
All of it rules. Two full-lengths and two 7 inches. All killer!
Black Eyes - Black Eyes Black Eyes - Cough Mi Ami - Steal Your Face (singer's next project) Fugazi - Red Medicine Fugazi - In On The Kill Taker Erase Errata - Night Life Blood Brothers - Burn Piano Island Burn
everything. I have both cds.
Repeater. The title track on Repeater gives me heavy Black Eyes vibes, with the way the guitars are just screeching and the rhythm section is the only thing holding it together.
4:30 Spring Into Winter
Deformative 13:25
Uh! <3
Holy shit. 4:36. Are you okay??? Lmao.
I wish i could have seen these guys live. Truly amazing!
THEY ARE TOURING RN
I feel so bad for the guy in the white shirt in the first song, as soon as he starts to play drums a drum falls over, as soon as he picks up the guitar it stops working, as soon as he starts singing the mic cuts out, poor guy.
best comment, poor guy
That's what it's like playing in a strange venue with crap gear every night...
@@billepperson2662 I do it once twice a week at this point, it’s funny to see me posting this 5 years ago, but still, I usually count on at least one of those things happening a night, but all 3 in a 30 second span is unfortunate and hilarious
I always thought the second voice was a girl
Are you for real? It is clearly a man shouting in falsetto

fuck yes!! thanks for the post!! I was on tour when this show happened and being from near Rutgers make me sad i missed them.. So fucking good.
fuck yes. thanks for the upload. I miss them!!!!!
Best band I have ever seen play.
These guys had such a badass setup man, just look at all that percussion!
Ted Nugent tank top?
yup
The Nuge was respected by the straight edge kids. This was before we knew what a right wing piece of shit he was, though.
MacKaye was also into Nugent at this point. must have been a thing.
Any American kid coming up in the Seventies and looking for heavier types of music would naturally gravitate towards the guitar sounds of Ted Nugent. It's sad that Ted's partisan party politics hackery has essentially outshine his guitar playing all these years later.
New York gave us punk rock with he ramones California gave us pop punk and skate punk and melodic hardcore but Washington D.C gave us hardcore!
Florida gave us melodic hardcore
BOSTON gave us hardcore
California gave you Black Flag, Dead Kennedys, TSOL, Fear, Angry Samoans and many more ya prick
you’re welcome.
I used to love the architecture in Columbia, MD but I guess if I lived there, I'd be pretty pissed too. Void!

I was in 11th grade in 1983. I'm still listening to Void and Dischord stuff!
I'm in 10th grade and I'm listening to void and dischord stuff
Same with me in 2001 (9/11 happened at the start of my senior year, Iraq War not long after graduating). Pretty cool to see including the other reply how timeless this is.
I got into this stuff 9th grade and now i’m about to graduate highschool
Boomer
@joshjn Anyone who was still in high school in '83 would be considered a Gen Xer.
Just great.....awesome juvenile power ! :-) raw emerge. .
something that is not present at the moment culture
@Sound It does exist, but a lot of hardcore today, unfortunately enough, can be very highly derivative to the point of imitation. How the hell can anyone reinvent hardcore, y'know?
such an innovative band!
we have to get the band back together
