Taking the NEW KTM 1290 Super Adventure S Offroad (Plus crash)
Hi there! Welcome to the channel @MyLifeVibes.
In todays video we're going to ride some 60/40 road/dirt tracks, called Greenlanes in the Netherlands, on the 2024 KTM 1290 Super Adventure S. I'm not an experienced offroad rider hence me failing at it as well, I'll show you what happened (spoiler alert, a little crash) and how I got out of it. No one was harmed and no damage to the motorcycle. I enjoyed it very much! I hope you like the content, for ease of navigation I put the timestamps below.

I just got mine, they forgot to include 2 Lock barrels 🤦♂️. I wrote them back lets see how much more I have to wait again. By the way is it secure enough to not lock the rack adapter with key?
@@dibranxhymshiti7631 thanks for commenting 🙏🏼 oh man… that’s a bummer! I hope their customer service picks up your request fast 🤞. It’s secure I think, the latch has a switch that also closes. But to be safe (you really don’t want to lose it while riding who knows what can happen) I always lock it.
Trust me. Get the bigger one. It’s way more practical and doesn’t look overbearing on the bike. I have it on my gs 850 and it’s amazing
@@Jonno1675 thanks for the comment! Personally after comparing dimensions I opted for the smaller one given the sleek rear of the KTM but everyone should get what they prefer! Happy you’re happy with the bigger one.
@@MyLifeV1besfor sure. I use the bike as a daily and have no panniers so it really helps fit all my things in. Can’t believe how well it compliments the bike. One of the best made top boxes out there currently
All these exhaust sound same on these bikes Wings Arrow Dominator
About the grills, I like the look, but with just 1kg of carrying capacity, I don't see the point. They said they can be removed, I will probably remove mines.
The grills look cool and I think the ribbons of flags are really cool at the back of the case. For bottles etc I find it handy or lighter stuff like tire pressure kits. They certainly can be removed and the holes can be plugged (they supply it with the case).
YES!!! I've bought one, just outside the pre order window, because I was waiting on my new bike to be confirmed before buying it. Still waiting for my order to be fulfilled, thanks for sharing man!
Thanks for commenting 🙏🏼! Happy you liked it. What bike did you order? Wish you lot’s of safe km’s and the MotoCase is great!

1290 sas is+- 18 000€ not 24 000
Thanks for commenting, possibly it depends on where you are located. According to their main page it’s even higher www.ktm.com/en-nl/models/travel/2024-ktm-1290-superadventures.html Dealers might have better 2nd hand deals.
You’re a lucky man! Still waiting for the case!
Hopefully you’ll get it soon. It’s a great product! Even the smaller version is spacious enough.
someone posted that they put Michelin road 6s on their previous model super adventure and it fixed the wobble issue.
@@milesdavis8665 thanks for commenting. Curious, first I’ll use these tires a bit before changing :).
@MyLifeV1bes indeed. I'm considering the super adventure myself. I found a left over 2018 with only 1k on the clock. Heavily discounted of course. Its either that or a pre owned GSA
Both great bikes! However, please keep in mind dealer support regarding the KTM due to possible recalls or warranty cases if something breaks (if that is still applicable). The GSA is strong, but still needs the right maintenance interval. Goodluck with the decision! And test ride them both thoroughly.
@MyLifeV1bes I sure will. Test rode a 1290 back in 2019. Excellent bike. Still looking to ride gsa. I left the country and now live overseas and put buying a bike on hold. Eventually I'll get another one. Keep posting those videos. I really enjoy your journey ☺️
@@milesdavis8665thanks Mate! I will, one is hopefully coming up soon as I’m still waiting on a part after that I’ll make another.
Good comparison

Good choice !…like i did !😂
@@KTM1290SuperAdventureS haha thanks! Yes I’m enjoying this beast a lot. New video coming hopefully soon when it’s finally complete!
Great video! In the market for either the SAS or GT, and this video helped inform me a little on each. Thanks!
🙏🏼 thanks man! Glad to hear it helped. Let me know what you’ve decided though, curious!
Leuke filmpjes.

@@MyLifeV1bes thanks for help ❤👍
Having owned both, the SAS is more usable in all situations, can be ridden faster on bad road surfaces (with just as much fun), so it's a no brainier.
🙏🏼 thanks for commenting, I agree!
Same here. GT was too hot most of the time. Just wish the SAS had taller gearing like the GT
@@kj385 I intend to change my rear sprocket when it's shot, and yeah the GT did run hot, don't have the same issue with the SAS
I looked into changing sprockets. But didn’t find anyone making a bigger front 16 tooth or smaller rear 42 sprockets for the SAS
@@kj385 that's because most people go the other way, as the bike is geared tall from the factory, meaning smaller rears and larger fronts are less commonly sold, many people put 45T rear sprockets on, which makes 6th more usable, and many claim to be better offroad also, have you tried looking at DID or supersprox?
Good topic! Hoz would you compare the throttle respons? I have a 890 Duke R which is very nervous and pulls from the second you open the throttle, which I love. When I testrode the GT I was a bit disppointed about the throttle response: it rips like crazy, but it feels like it has to built up the power a bit, it doesn't have that direct explosiveness I was looking for. How would you compare the SAS on this topic?
🙏🏼 thanks for commenting. Regarding the throttle response, I’ve never rode a 890 Duke R so I’m not sure how that feels. What I do know is that you have multiple settings in terms of throttle responses both on the GT and SAS. In comfort it reacts it bit slower and more smooth while sport it is really snappy. So both bikes are configurable on that topic. Hope that answers your question :).
The GT has smooth and responsive throttle. Almost equal to the 890. The SAS throttle is less responsive. But some of that is due to the heavier crank and different cams. So I ride the SAS in sport mode. But the GT and 890 I ride in street mode.
Nice video! I bought my KTM 1290 SAS 2022 at Arie! Nice dealer! Did you drive this GT during a KTM testday?
🙏🏼 thanks for commenting! Yes I did. Plus some additional options were fitted to my SAS during that same time so easy 1+1.
1290 SAS looks better
🙏🏼 for commenting IMO as well!
Hey, why did you buy the KTM when you had a beautiful, well-running BMW? Also, congrats for the new bike!!
Thanks man, appreciate the comment. I love(d) my BMW…. But I wanted something quicker and leaner… for that my eye fell on this KTM. The sheer power of this KTM engine is unbelievable and it also moves great! Sure possibly the BMW felt more sturdy but in terms of built quality and possibilities KTM is up there.
I got the wings exhaust for mine, super fast shipping, great quality, cheaper than most, and the db killer comes out with one allen screw
Enjoy your Wings exhaust!
Oh god, this video might cost me money! Still got the stock exhaust after a year, but I’ve managed to scratch it, so that means I HAVE to get a replacement SC Project, right? RIGHT? 😂
Yes you’re right! One scratch or even no scratch might mean you need to buy a slip-on! 🤣
Knipperlicht gaat automatisch uit
Dank voor je reactie. Ik ga er eens op letten. Heb het niet opgemerkt nog! ATIR is wel een optie bij KTM maar weet niet of dat standaard op mijn type/ jaar zit.
Arie Molenaar = top. Onderhoud daar mn africa twin. Goede vriendelijke service altijd. Gefeliciteerd met je motor! Ziet er top uit. Veel rijplezier
Dankjewel! Honda AT is ook een gave bike! Jij ook veel rijplezier!
Could t finish the video due to poor audio quality.
Thanks for your reaction. I’m still testing a lot in what setup/settings would be best but given the helmet and integration setup of the DJI is not that easy it is a bit of a challenge sometimes. But I’m testing something new now. Hopefully the next video will be better.
I had a '21 model Super ADV S..... 6k km in the headlight failed, dealer ignored the repair for three weeks, wrote a nasty email to HQ in Austria, fixed within three days..... regular xmas tree dash light displays for no apparent reason.... fuel gauge never worked again after the dealer "repair" on the headlight which needed the tank removed, no surprise whats happened there..... rear shock adjust would black out and not respond, i was repeatedly told i was doing the wrong adjustment method and i needed to be off the bike to have it work (figure that one out)..... dash would black out roughly 1 in 3 rides requiring a shutdown and restart. Significant oil leak from the tappet cover. Paying for this brand was a huge fucken mistake, never again. Probably should have gone consumer affairs for the shite they dished up and their laughable after sales. DONT -EVER-BUY THIS CUNT OF A BRAND.
I bought a brand new 2022, sas, was a total nightmare, water leaks and electronic problems, parted ways very quickly
Thanks for commenting. Jeezz, I understand… not nice if something like that happens. Hope you’re having a great time in your bike now.
@@MyLifeV1bes Keep the battery topped up on a trickle charge at all times to avoid some of the electronic woes and keep an eye out for water leaks, my bike also had a serious wobble due to poorly adjusted headstock bearings that I fixed myself, however I could never cure the bike pulling to the left , I still have my trusty Honda XRV 750RD07 Africa that ive owned for 14years and now a new Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 that I find is all the power I need in the real world, and basic tech that I can fix, good luck and enjoy your new machine
Great video 12 minutes BMW, 5 minutes KTM
Are you going to have KTM spoked wheels?
Yes, tomorrow they’ll be putting them on!
@@MyLifeV1bes 19" front or 21"?
@@tigerick7291 I believe in case of the SAS spoke wheel option it is the 19”.
How about tires? 50/50 road dirt, or what do you plan on for them?
@@stevek4449 for now they’ll switch the (crap) stock Mitas tires. Since they are new I don’t want them going to waste. After that I’m thinking indeed 50/50 road dirt. Something that alligns with it’s dual purpose.

Should've gotten a 1300gs instead 😉
I seriously thought about it but after looking at it I just don’t really like the looks of it and would need to spend a lot more money to make it to my liking. It rides great though. Let’s see what the GSA is going to be like!
i have the touratech mount for my garmin xt its a lots sturdier than the ktm mount and doesnt go up and down with the screen

I did the same thing a year ago, I went from BMW 1250 GSA to KTM 1290 SAS. This KTM is the beast, I'm lovin it
Thanks for watching and commenting! Me two, it’s a beast. What options do you have on it?
Sounds and looks awesome. Is it thicker/wider than the stock exhaust (looking from behind)? I have about 1-2cm to spare between stock exhaust and my luggage racks.
Thanks! 🙏🏼 the stock exhaust is more rectangular while this exhaust is more oval. So might be that in diameter this exhaust is a bit wider… however if you have the factory luggage racks it’ll fit I think. Also shows in the video on YT: ua-cam.com/video/3pz7G-CcemE/v-deo.htmlsi=DaZSRM0u3rfcFblT

Thanks for watching and commenting. Loved the first tour and many more to come!
I've got the Arrow one one mine, it sounds great without the baffle in but for long rides I put it back in so it doesn't get too annoying. It only takes 5 mins. What settings are you running the suspension in?
Thanks for watching and reacting! Arrow Sonora right? Also great exhaust. I must say on long rides this one is quite comfortable (even with baffles out). Regarding suspension It varies, normally just automatic mode. But im still learning the basics of the elaborate options of all the menus. I tried street setup most of the time when riding and find it mostly suitable for anything. More sporty roads (needs good asphalt though in sport). Rally mode still discovering…. You?
@@MyLifeV1bes As you say street mode unless it's very smooth, but we don't have smooth roads here in England 😄. Try manual preload 70%, street mode, anti dive on the forks and sport mode engine. I find auto to be always a bit too soft and 70% puts a bit more weight over the front too. Give it a go, it's taken me a long time to work everything out. FYI I'm 100 kg geared up. Enjoy.👍
@@tigerick7291 thanks for the tip will do!
@@tigerick7291 That´s funny, I am running those exact settings right now :) I am 95kg without gear, and 70% preload feels just about right. Anti-dive always on, it´s great. Street mode for the suspension and sport for engine seems suitable for most of the time. Bought mine new 2months ago, so I have some more experimenting to do.
@@AndersPetersson79 If I'm on the motorway for a distance I put it in low preload, comfort and ACC on. It's so smooth and stable, you must try it.👍
A rash decision got me my 901 Expedition in October 2023 after 10 years of abstinence from riding a motorcycle! 😄 I drove the 1290 AS during the first service of the Norden and I licked it too. But the Norden I like more! ☺️Have fun with the new “Toy”.
Thanks for sharing! Welcome back to riding! Enjoy many save rides!

Congrats! I picked up my 2024 1290 SAS 2months ago, same colour. Great bike, so much fun. Some of my mods/accessories are: Heed crash bars (black), Outback Motortek luggage racks (black), SW-Motech bar risers and KTM tank pads. Just ordered the Puig Touring Plus windscreen aswell.
Nice! Congrats, also changing the mufflers? Tomorrow a video is going live, if you’re interested. Some of the mods coming soon crashbar, spoke wheels, Lonerider top case. Enjoy many fast and great safe miles!
@@MyLifeV1bes Cool, I have ordered the Lone Rider Overlander 48l. Also intend to order the Motobags eventually. Thinking about also buying the Wings exhaust eventually. Might have to modify the Outback Motortek luggage racks for it to fit though, so a little bit on the fence about that one at the moment 🤔 The luggage racks go very close to the original exhaust on the back and on the side. The Wings exhaust looks like it might be a bit thicker than OEM. If you don’t mind maybe you can compare/measure the width/diameter (looking from behind the bike) of the Wings exhaust? If it is more than about a centimeter wider then the racks will require modification or removal 🤨
I hear far too many horror stories about ktm, I'd love one, but for someone who tours a lot, i need reliability. Enjoy it though man.
I’ve not yet encountered them. Hopefully also won’t encounter them but we’ll see. 1000km service coming up.

Life is about owning many different motorcycles over time. Part of the fun. I have an SAS and been loving it. The Wings muffler is awesome.
Thanks Blade for your comment! Couldn’t agree more, would want them back if I could. What modifications have you made so far besides the exhaust. I’ll change to the spoke rims and add a crashbar too, might also swap the blinkers, the stock ones are too big (my opinion). Nice muffler! I changed mine to a SC-project, video will hit the channel this week!
Ah, Netherlands, fond memories after many trips to Assen for the racing. Replacing my motorcycles is always a wrench bar a couple that were definitely not good and I was glad to move them on. I currently have a KTM Adventure Dakar. I absolutely love it, quite basic in modern bike terms, no tablet screen, no riding modes, no radar………… perfect, just what I wanted. I think it’s a keeper even if I decide to treat myself to another bike in the future. In my opinion, the KTM experience stands or falls on how good your supplying dealership is. Some models have had issues (all brands have issues), and allegedly the KTM factory has been perceived to be unhelpful so the back-up of a supportive dealership might be important. I hope you experience no problems with your new KTM and have many, many miles of enjoyable riding as I have had. Stay safe. 🏴
Thanks for your comment Gizmo, yes the more basic bikes are amazing. In the R1200GSA video I also talk about my earlier bike, a 2005 CBR600RR. No aids just machine loved it! With regards to dealership support I agree, always helps to have a good liason there. Thanks and I wish the same to you! Keep on riding and smiling!
I enjoyed the content, thank you. I’ve been interested in the SAS for sometime after riding one a while back. It tried hard to pull my arms off! I’m a bit concerned though by reports of unreliable electronics, handle bar wobbles at speed (maybe due to stock Mitas tyres) and excessive chain slap. I’ll be very interested in your experience with the SAS. Also, I’ve seen spy shots of a 1390 SAS, but not sure when that’s going to hit the showroom floors. Did you consider the Super Duke GT at all - a touring animal.😊
Hi Scott, thanks for your compliment. Does a lot when starting a channel 😄! The SAS is awesome, I just came back from a 4 day tour and it was amazing. I haven’t had any troubles so far (which is understandable since its new). The Mitas tires are not good indeed, but I haven’t had any wobbles at higher speeds. My thought is that since this model (2024) is the last edition they filtered out a lot of the diseases mentioned on earlier examples. Although I would recommend good dealer support in combination with a good dealer. Regarding the 1390, no opinion yet but it would be a beast no doubt. I did have a look at the Super Duke GT, a great thing but the adventure model was more to my liking. Although if it was up to me I would have all kinds haha.
