Two Schools of Mujtahideen, Allama Iqbal and Shah Wali Ullah
Reconstruction of Religious Thought
Iqbal believed that Islamic thought must evolve in response to modern challenges. In his seminal work The Reconstruction of Religious Thought in Islam, he emphasized the need to reinterpret the Quran and Sunnah in light of contemporary scientific and philosophical developments. For Iqbal, Islam's vitality lay in its capacity for continual reinterpretation, guided by the principle of ijtihad.
Selfhood and Khudi
Iqbal's concept of khudi (selfhood) underscores the individual's potential for self-realization through faith, knowledge, and action. He saw khudi as the foundation for personal and collective empowerment, enabling Muslims to reclaim their historical role as leaders of civilization.
Islam and Modernity
Iqbal championed a harmonious integration of Islamic values with modern advancements in science, technology, and governance. He opposed blind imitation (taqlid) of Western models and instead advocated for a uniquely Islamic approach to progress.
Pan-Islamism
Iqbal stressed the importance of Muslim unity and solidarity, transcending racial, ethnic, and national boundaries. He envisioned a global Muslim community inspired by shared values of justice, equality, and freedom.
Shah Wali Ullah's Vision for the Intellectual and Spiritual Renewal of Muslims
Shah Wali Ullah (1703-1762) lived during a period of Mughal decline and sought to address the fragmentation of Muslim society. His vision for Islamic renewal was characterized by the following principles:
Harmonization of Islamic Thought
Shah Wali Ullah sought to bridge sectarian divides by reconciling the Sunni and Shia schools of thought. He emphasized the universality of Islamic principles and the need for unity among Muslims.
Reform of Society
He believed that the decline of the Muslim ummah was rooted in moral and spiritual decay. His reforms focused on reestablishing justice, reducing economic inequalities, and promoting ethical governance based on Islamic principles.
Revival of Quranic Teachings
Shah Wali Ullah stressed the centrality of the Quran as a source of guidance for all aspects of life. He translated the Quran into Persian to make it accessible to the masses and emphasized its practical application in governance, law, and society.
Integration of Mysticism and Law
Unlike many scholars of his time, Shah Wali Ullah integrated Sufism with Islamic jurisprudence, advocating for a balanced approach that combined spirituality with practical reform.
Similarities and Differences in the Approaches of Iqbal and Shah Wali Ullah
Both Iqbal and Shah Wali Ullah were deeply committed to the revival of Islam, but their approaches reflected the unique challenges of their respective eras:
The Impact of Iqbal's and Shah Wali Ullah's Ideas on Contemporary Islamic Discourse
The ideas of Iqbal and Shah Wali Ullah have profoundly influenced modern Islamic thought:
Reform Movements
Shah Wali Ullah's emphasis on Quranic centrality inspired movements like the Deoband and Aligarh schools, which shaped South Asia's intellectual and religious landscape. Iqbal's philosophy influenced leaders like Muhammad Ali Jinnah and the development of Pakistan as a modern Islamic state.
Modern Intellectual Debates
Iqbal's call for reconstructing religious thought resonates with contemporary debates on Islam and modernity. His emphasis on ijtihad has encouraged scholars to address issues like democracy, gender equality, and science from an Islamic perspective.
Global Muslim Unity
Both thinkers' visions for Muslim solidarity continue to inspire movements advocating for justice and resistance against oppression.
Practical Applications of Iqbal's and Shah Wali Ullah's Teachings in the Modern World
Education
Emphasizing Quranic education alongside modern sciences, as advocated by Shah Wali Ullah, can prepare Muslims to meet contemporary challenges without losing their spiritual roots.
Ethical Leadership
Iqbal's ideas on selfhood and moral integrity can inspire leaders to prioritize justice and service over personal gain.
Interfaith and Intra-faith Dialogue
Shah Wali Ullah's efforts to harmonize different schools of thought offer a model for reducing sectarianism and fostering unity in diverse Muslim communities.
Innovation and Ijtihad
Following Iqbal's approach, Muslims can reinterpret Islamic principles to address issues like environmental sustainability, technological ethics, and social justice.
Conclusion: Lessons for the Future of Islamic Thought and Praxis
The enduring relevance of Allama Iqbal and Shah Wali Ullah lies in their ability to balance tradition with innovation. Their teachings remind Muslims that:
Faith and Reason Must Coexist: A dynamic engagement with Islamic principles can address modern challenges without compromising core values.
Unity is Strength: Overcoming internal divisions is essential for global Muslim empowerment.

Mam what is Equal inheritance Rights
Equal inheritance rights refer to the idea that everyone should be entitled to a piece of a deceased person's estate or inheritance, usually family members. Egality and fairness in the distribution of assets are promoted by this idea, regardless of a person's gender, birth order, or any other characteristics that could customarily affect inheritance distribution. Equal inheritance rights are intended to ensure that each successor or beneficiary is treated fairly and receives a share of the estate that is proportionate to their rightful share. This idea is frequently considered a means of advancing social justice, gender equality, and family peace.

Oh my God!!!! finally I found a video where the evolution of the state is mentioned briefly but with good information. Because of you now I can start my IR assignment in peace, I just wish you could soon upload about the Nation-state, and other IR concepts such as Sovereignty, Nationalism, Foreign Policy and how they are connected etc. Btw, I am not fluent in Hindi even though I understand it a little, still, this was good and helpful for me. Keep up the good work. Waiting for Nation-State video.
