To actually answer your question, the first 02 sensor(s) communicate fuel/air they’re absolutely necessary. The rear 02 sensor(s) downstream, measure the exhaust temp and other emission readings.

You are lifting and encapsulating the O2 sensor to trick it to thinking the cat is doing its job and removing the CEL and clicking the monitors over to OK. If your CEL is on, you're not passing ANY check anyway. I dont have visual inspection but OBD2 plug in testing that ONLY checks if the monitors come back ok. If you do have a visual, remove the spacers and get it there BEFORE the engine can run thru all its monitor checks and you pass. Emissions garbage are a tax on poor people and a scam to keep otherwise perfectly running vehicles off the road to further increase the burden on those of us who can't go buy a new car every 5yrs. Also you would NOT do this on an upstream o2 sensor which actually effects how your motor operates, downstream's do NOTHING but tell the computer the catalytic converter is working. Its a $60+ sensor that turns a light on and off.

@@MrBoroski You have a weird exhaust setup. Catalytic convertors are intended to burning off unburned fuel. The upstream o2 sensor determines the fuel mix based on the combustion products coming out of the cylinders. Putting a cat in front of that would alter the readings. Either way, doing this to the downstream sensor does nothing to the vehicle. It just checks the function of the cats. There will be a temperature difference between upstream and downstream. Heat is what the o2 senors are reading.

​@Random7 I've been seeing people install a jar with baking soda and distilled water that they run a current through, capture the escaping pure oxygen and hydrogen, run that through a water separator or condenser, then plumb the gas through a hose directly to the intake of the vehicle to get a 100% burn.

Yes, I do work if you do it, right you could take the cats completely out of the vehicle and run straight pipe as long as you get the right depth on the O2sensor, you have to drill one and then thread the other one in there the cats could be completely gone or you could put a resistor in line because people don’t do it right as far as the computer system you have to get a scanner clear all your history codes out current codes reset all your fuel trims everything back to factory specifications, not with a code reader with a scanner if you have a Ford, you need to reset your km module people think oh I put the part in it’s fixed no because the computer still has the readings with the bad part so you have to clear everything out it’s basically like rebooting your laptop and you should do that to the vehicle. I would say every six months because people doesn’t know how to do it correctly. If you don’t work on them every day you got Joe blow down the street that says old is drive it it’ll fix itself no you have to reset everything and if you can’t do it, take it to somebody that can reset it back to factory specifications all your modules

I did that to my 97 ram 2500 and they never came back and passed the emissions test was like that for about 7 years

Maybe you have to go to files and delete anything that's there for the game
