Thank you Bob! Yes, I am very much still alive and enjoying a sober life. I just moved back to Texas and am almost done building my small home. I am doing it myself so it is taking me longer because of my bad back. Yes, this video applied to what I was dealing with at that time, seems forever ago when I think about it. I enjoy watching these again from time to time to remind me of the road and how much I have grown in Christ and also what God has removed out of my life. It's amazing to see what He has replaced it with. I still face many challenges however I now have the confidence that Christ will overcome these things as long as I am willing and rely on Him. This October will be a year and I can't believe how fast it's gone. Once I get everything finished and move my things from storage into the house, I will make another video. Thank you for keeping tabs Bob and being a friend, it means a lot!

Thank you Bob!! Yes- sorry for being gone for a few weeks. I am back in the video mode again though. What I am now trying to do is upload videos that pertain to struggles that I am going through or things I am learning. I am thankful that they are meaning something to others. I am finding that the more I make these videos the more my public speaking skills are being restored. I enjoy being sober and actually bettering myself vs lowering my goals to fit my alcohol consumption. I read an AWESOME quote the other day: "The struggle you are in today is developing the strength you need for tomorrow. Don't give up." --Robert Tew Thanks for the kind words my Brother! God Bless you and your family too!

I'm doing well since this video. It was a "get it out of my system" rant. I feel like I was holding on to these negative feelings and emotions and had to let them out. Things have been doing quite better and I just picked up 30 days yesterday. I will be updating again soon. I am still sticking it out and the sun is shining once again. Thank you all for your support and time spent watching these videos. God Bless!

What you are going through is called "Life" It will not always be smooth sailing. That's not the way it was designed. How you handle it is how you grow at the emotional level. These are the times when I look up in the sky and ask, "Show me another way!" You will get an answer. You will be surprised but you will get an answer but try to avoid the temptation to perceive yourself as unfairly treated because self pity is ego centered meaning it is a block in the communication link we have with our Higher Power. Talk to your sponsor. You may have to go back to step one which is all about abandoning pride and seeking humility.... What changed for me was when I accepted things the way they were and when I did that....when I validated those negative emotions was when things began to change for me.....I got a really good paying job that I loved, I had money coming in from places I never expected, and my relationships improved! It's ok to be angry as long as it doesn't last. Life is a series of ups and downs. You will get through this. Lastly, I think you should apply for disability. Get yourself a lawyer if you get denied and you will get it. I know a veteran just like you and he could not find a job in his trade which was driving a truck so he applied and gets 3 grand a month. On top of that, he applied for social security disability but got denied so he got a lawyer and won so now he is getting over 4 grand per month and has a good life. I see that for you also. Good luck and God Bless

Thank you Brother! I am still reading and learning so much. I have returned to my joy of listening to classical music and didn't realize how much of a difference it makes. I am still working the job issue and doctor issue. I know these are just a small speed bump in the grand scheme. More to follow- thank you for your support! God Bless!

Good share, real issues experienced during recovery, especially those with friends we used to drink with. Think you’ll find that your friendships will go through a natural reshuffling as you and your values change in you walk. As this happens, avoid making judgements about others and keep the focus on what you can directly effect and “...to accept the things I can not change.” You’re doing great and wishing you continued success!

Robert Sherrow I appreciate that very much! You are right- I need to keep seeking that wisdom to know the difference. Saying goodbye to the old friends wasn't really the hard part, learning the new habits and finding the new outlets for entertainment is the hard part(s) for me. I know we are all wired differently. I am so thankful to have the attitude to quit drinking. I pray that it continues to grow and I am able to pass down to others what I have learned- just like you guys do for me. It feels so reassuring to be part of the family!

You were talking about the comradery of friendship and I am reminded of a guy I met in AA but it was before AA in group counseling and he spent some time in jail as a result of his drinking days. The stories he told me were so funny, I died laughing! That's the best part is the new sober friends you make. I got alot of support from those guys when I went through my divorce and I was told things you could only hear from a man and not a woman so it was an important part of my life. If you want a good job, apply to the federal government like the VA. They give guys like you priority, (as they should) My best friend's son was in the iraq war and he came home with ptsd after killing two of the enemy but the VA hired him to handle applications for disability from other vets. He doesn't work very hard, loves the job, and makes a ton of money! Maybe you should look into it, my friend! God Bless

Bob Perry I love the new "me" and my new group of friends. Life feels so much better this way and I am glad that I am where I'm at. I will look into the VA. Lord knows we need some good Vets running that show. Time to get all those other workers that just collect a check out of there. :) Vets know how to take care of Vets. Thanks for your advice Brother!

I know alot of other business owners being in business myself and employers love hiring people in recovery because they feel good about helping to give someone a new start and they also know what hard workers we are, like we have something to prove, and any company would greatly benefit from hiring us so you won't have any trouble at all finding a job from what I hear.

Good seeing your post! Have to admit I was a bit worried but glad you're doing well and continuing to enjoy your new life. I'm about five hundred miles from my home on vacation this week and dropped into an AA meeting yesterday. They made me feel welcome from the start and there was an instant connection, friendship in some cases. Where else can you find that? Happy to see you doing well and wish you continued success!

Robert Sherrow Enjoy that vacation! Glad to hear you could drop in a meeting. I'm sure it makes things better because I hate being left to my own thoughts for an extended period of time. I'm sure in time that will change though. Glad to hear you are doing well! Thanks Brother!

Your struggles are real and where many fail. You can do it bro but you gotta hang in there. Don't be afraid to ask your Higher Power for help. They are there to assist you but cannot do anything without your permission. It is so much easier when you don't have to do it alone.God Bless

    • @camojeepguy6606

Bob Perry Very true! It's so easy to slip back into that "self work" attitude. That's most likely the component I was lacking the most of this weekend. Thank you for the reminder! Yes, I'm not giving up or giving in. The harder I have the work, the greater the victory for the day will be! This weekend I had to fight for it, but victory was achieved! Thank you for your help and time Brother! It really does mean a lot. God Bless!

I know you don't see it now but you have a great life ahead of you. I am sure of it. alot of people will be helped by your example. You will inspire many bro. Just take it one day at a time like you said and if you really feel you can't get through the day, then see your doctor or go to the ER immediately but do not take a drink! That would put you deeper into the hell you're in right now. One day at a time, one minute at a time bro. You can do it! God Bless

I will pray for you buddy. Don't let me down :) Yes get it out . Don't hold it in or it will cause far worse damage! I have faith in you...Maybe try more meetings....God Bless

Bob Perry I appreciate it Bob! When I got back I slept for 7 straight hours. I felt like an ass making this video, but I am sure you and others can relate with the feelings. Thank you for the support and help! It means so much. I never thought that I would have to fight on so many fronts just to "learn" to function without alcohol. I know the war is not over (and probably never will be), but this particular battle was won. Another 24 hours accomplished! Off to tomorrow! Thank you and take care Brother!

When I got out of treatment, the first thing I did was get rid of all my drinking buddies. They were my triggers and I no longer wanted them to drag me down with them. I made much better and longer lasting friends in AA....God Bless

A great way to practice public speaking is by chairing an AA meeting! I remember the first time I did it, my voice shook and I was so nervous. Even though there was an outline in front of me telling me how to do it, I was still nervous even though I had no reason to be. I hadn't paid much attention to the steps at that point and after I did the steps, it was alot easier. Good luck my friend, I have a real good feeling about you! You will be a shining light for others to follow! God Bless

Good share today. For someone so early in their recovery, you’ve already learned some valuable lessons my friend. The one I appreciated most tonight is how we emerge from a world entirely focused on ourselves to a world that opens to others during recovery. So true, and it makes life a much more pleasurable experience. Like you, I had someone come up to me several years ago when I was drinking and say something I’ll never forget. I was sitting at the bar after a few drinks waiting on dinner, and an older woman walking with her husband came up to me and asked: “Why are you so sad, honey?” I think I made up something just to get her off my back, but in reality I didn’t have an answer for the woman. I thought about that a lot as I continued to drink, but it didn’t make sense until I quit about five months ago. My sorrow was probably obvious to everyone but me. Keep up the good work my friend!

Robert Sherrow EXACTLY Robert! We used to be good at lying to others about why but we sure couldn't escape the truth within ourselves. I never knew how bad it was until I stopped drinking. I can't say enough how much I LOVE my new life! Thank you for the comment Brother!

Good share brother and glad you were able to connect with a local group. So hard to explain to others the impact of having people who understand your challenges and support your sobriety. You’re so right not to get ahead of yourself in recovery and enjoy each alcohol-free day you’re alive and being true to yourself. Continued success!

Robert Sherrow Me too Robert! This group has made all the difference! I don't have to be on my guard and can just be me at those meetings. I had spent so many years living a selfish lie that these are the first moments of a new life! I am going to continue the one day at a time approach. I find myself so excited each day to attend these meetings. I never would of thought I would ever say that either! God Bess you my friend!

You are absolutely right! We have all been brainwashed by out government! My best friend's son came back with ptsd. He called his dad up from iraq and said, " Dad I don't think I will be the same when I get back, I killed 2 of the enemy in the battle for bagdad" He is on partial disability for ptsd but has a nice desk job for the VA. small payment for his sacrifices.... You have a story that needs to be told. Many will identify and will be help. You can do it buddy! One day at a time....God Bless!

Thanks for your share, you can do it sir. It's always a rough start, but definitely worth it. I recently discovered meditation through an app on my phone called Headspace and it is a beautiful feeling in the brain, bringing a lot of peace, reducing anxiety significantly. That and exercise has made this journey less difficult. Take care and God bless.
