When I was a kid (9) we first got a computer/internet in 99 and back then ya could download songs from Napster. I was just extending into alternative genres from me upbring on Black Sabbath, Meatloaf, Aerosmith, Nirvana and ended up finding bands like Slipknot, Linkin Park, Papa Roach, Korn etc who were all releasing work that year. At thst time I also stumbled upon Join Me In Death. But the download didnt have an artist so I had no idea who it was. Fast forward to 2002/3 I was in a local store looking at magazines. By this point id been buying Kerrang and collecting the CDs that came with the magazines but on this day I thought I'd go with the magazine 'Metal Hammer'. The guy at the checkout said "bit heavy for you this init?" Staring back at him with me twist spike looking like a hedgehog hair, I said "nope" bought it. The CD ended up having Buried Alive By Love on it. I was struck with "OH SH*T ITS THAT BAND" and proceeded to go onto what was now Limewire and download everything I could by HIM whilst giving the computer aids in the process. Needless to say from thst point forward I fell swiftly into a wearing all black all the time, hair grown out, heartagrams scribbled all over school workbooks obsessive lil HIM fan. Now 34, having seen HIM live numerous times, travelled to various countries to see them including their Tavastia club New Years eve special in Helsinki, Finland. And having met them, its funny to look back on this era of their music and remember how I got into it and reading the comments how impactful their music has been on so many others. Hopefully someone will wave the big money at them for a reunion and theyll come here to Scotland. My lass is also a life long fan and has yet to see them live so it would be super special for us to see them together
