The Power of Reason : Part 2 of 4 on Stoic Principles
Welcome back to this special minisode edition brought to you by PhilosoShe™ Weekly! In this episode, we dive deep into an old newsletter that explored the Stoic principle of power of reason. This is part 2 of the 4 part series.
Reason is our guiding light through life’s complexities, helping us make informed decisions and understand the world. Often, we oversimplify life as a mere event-reaction cycle, overlooking the crucial middle step-opinion.
By recognizing that our opinions shape our reactions, we can better navigate life’s injustices and unfairness.
You will also learn in this episode:
* How the Jezebels in The Handmaid’s Tale and the courtesans of the 17th century used reason to choose a path in chaotic times
* Why reason is crucial for navigating life’s injustices, not to excuse them, but to make the best choices in response
* A practical tool called “R.I.D.E.” to help you apply reason when emotions run high, which includes:
* R: Recognize your emotion
* I: Investigate the source
* D: Detach from the emotion
* E: Engage with reason
Join me as we explore how reason can be our compass, leading us toward more mindful, empowered choices.

I gotta keep it real with you here - while I appreciate our friendship, I just want to make it clear that's what our relationship is-just friends. I am not a licensed therapist, and this podcast should NOT be considered a substitute for medical or mental health advice. I'm just a friend bringing up something I discovered about myself and sharing it with you, my friend!

Thank you so much Kay 💕💕💕
Thank you so much for all of this! You are so wise. I learned a lot about myself and you have challenged me to use the power of letter writing to help communicate better with my eldest daughter. I am hoping some of the sharing you did today might carry over and helping my communication style with her to better our relationship.
If anything, it can mostly be a cathartic release for yourself. Separating ourselves from our thoughts, from memories of the way things played out in our heads...and placing them onto paper creates this ultimate shift. And so you might even receive new insights about yourself as you write out all the things you want to say and read them back to yourself. Thank you for watching and Im glad I was able to offer you some inspiration.
I’ve slowly been letting go of attachments and need for control the past 9 years. Thanks for the wisdom and insight. I appreciate your sharing! I look forward to more ❤
Thank you so much for sharing. That is a beautiful path to be on. Because everyone is so unique and some of our most challenging attachments come from our experiences -- as a woman, what do you feel were some of the most challenging attachments to let go or that you are working on?
