Giant Flip Chip Axel System
The Flip Chip Axle Explained: Giant Revolt & Liv Devote Gravel Bikes
The flip chip axle, featured on all current Giant Revolt and Liv Devote gravel bikes, allows you to adjust the bike’s wheelbase by 10mm, tailoring your ride to suit the terrain and your preferences.
Two Position Options
Short Position:
A shorter wheelbase delivers quicker, more agile handling. This setup is ideal for mixed terrain that includes paved roads, smooth gravel, and dirt paths. The responsive feel, combined with smaller, lighter tires, makes this position perfect when speed, efficiency, and precise handling are a priority.
Long Position:
The long position extends the wheelbase, increasing stability on rugged gravel and dirt. With added rear tire clearance (up to 53mm), you can opt for high-volume tires for better traction and control. This setup excels on routes featuring loose descents, tricky off-road climbs, or bikepacking adventures.
Follow these simple steps to adjust your Revolt or Devote to the desired position.
Tools Required
• Torque Wrench
• 2mm, 4mm, and 5mm Allen Keys
• T25 Key (for SRAM brakes)
• Scissors
• Zip Tie
• Frame Protection
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1:
Use foam tubing or similar material to protect the frame. Remove the rear derailleur and secure it to the frame. For a cable derailleur, follow the same process but be cautious not to damage or bend the gear cable.
Step 2:
Using a 5mm Allen Key, remove the rear wheel and set it aside.
Step 3:
Flip the drive-side and non-drive-side chips using a 2mm Allen Key. Ensure the derailleur hanger is positioned correctly.
Step 4:
Remove the rear brake caliper. For SRAM calipers, use a T25 key for one of the bolts. For Shimano calipers, use a 4mm Allen Key for both bolts.
Step 5:
Position the caliper mount to your desired position using a 4mm Allen Key.
Step 6:
Reattach the caliper to the bike. Brake adjustment will be completed later.
Step 7:
Reattach the rear derailleur. If using an eTap derailleur, this step is simpler. For cable derailleurs, take extra care to avoid damaging or bending the gear cable.
Step 8:
Grease the axle and reinstall the rear wheel. Torque the axle to the correct Nm setting.
Step 9:
Set up the rear brake. Align the caliper so the rotor is centered, ensuring the pads cleanly engage the disc on both sides. Tighten the bolts to the required torque settings. Spin the wheel to confirm the rotor isn’t rubbing.
Now your bike is ready to ride!
In the long position, the bike is ideal for bikepacking, as demonstrated with Giant H2PRO bags.

'Axel' as in Foley? Why would we want to flip him?
Why flip it ??
Prolly to change the wheelbase length i guess? Longer if you want more stability, shorter if you want a more lively rear.
more tire clearance
Is that Orion nebula???
@@mattheww1976 indeed it is 👍
Trance X1 what a bike!
Pain in the butt putting it back on 😢
Are you sure that you have to lean that much in the fork? And keep the brakes engaged while standing on the bike and setting the sag? 🤔
And what is the correct level of sealant when i measures with tge key?
Quick yea ?
Thanks
bro this is fuckin pointless
Reichweite?
Delete this video, using this method will ruin ur front wheel. Just flip ur bike upside down and install it!
Last in race, first to comment🏁
What does the bike weigh!? Seems to be kept secret, looking at something else so would be helpful
We have the same bike I'm honest
-it would be awesome if they made that colour for the 24-
Where do you charge the di2 on propel
@@Kuku_hihi with the 12 speed group sets the charge port is on the rear derailleur
Hi, thanks for the video, really useful. I've had to replace the seatpost as the one supplied with my wife's bike, a Liv AR4, doesn't go high enough. Our Giant dealer told us to absolutely not extend the post beyond the minimum mark, as the whole point of the d-fuse post is to have as little post within the frame as possible - and by extending beyond the minimum line, we'd be putting undue stress on the seat tube & post. I've found a composite replacement for her old aluminium seatpost. My question: do I need to adjust-down the torque settings for the clamp for the 6Nm indicated on the bike, given the new post is composite? BTW, for those looking for longer seatposts, they certainly do exist, and happily they are very well priced. The long composite version (Giant manufactured) I sourced here in Oz was only AUS$95.
@@davidmarsh7962 you don’t need to lower the torque setting the 6Nm will be fine with your new post
@@giantlincoln Brilliant, thanks for letting me know.
Moron don't tell you if you have to plug in the battery first or the outlet first. When charging?
Yes that’s step 1… aren’t you missing something?
Crazy bikes always giant the real giant love this bikes🎉🎉
They r so good I have one too
I just bought the same stp today it's so good
Have had issues with mine slipping. Have used carbon paste but still slips when at 6nm. Have had to go to 8nm. Is this OK??
Dream bike 🙏
About the same price as a used car 😂
It’s called inflation bike companies are struggling to sell bikes
Para mí la mejor bicicleta sin duda 😍
Agreed, this is the worst seat post design ever. I wish I never bought the bike. Garbage. It’s designed to stay in place and not to be moved regularly but I need to In Order to fit it in my van and car.
나는 매우 동의한다. 호환성이 매우 좋지 않다. 나 또한 자전거를 산것을 매우 후회하고 있다.
It is a nightmare, D-Fuse, cracking, noisy, cover... everything. Nobody knows how to make this S*&%T to bo quiet!
Yes. Mine makes an absolute racket. It would be a good bike otherwise.
My giant contend came with an additional black clamp about 1 cm long that can be fitted between the clamp in the frame and the cover that slides in on top. There are no instructions or reference to it anywhere. Do I fit it? Why do giant only provide a very general user manual not a model specific one? It has no detail on anything.
Supiste para qué era? Parace ser un adaptador para montar una parrilla.
my dad has got it and the first thing is.. ooh so light
Giant makes some of the best bikes in the world, yet they are underrated and more than likely outspent on their respective internet presentations and presence.
Stunning
Love Metallica 😎🤘🏻
What is max tire size for this bike?
🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
I just put one on lay by today 👌
Amazing
Great bike!
AMAZING COLOR!!!!!!
THE COLOR IN THE NUMBER 1 IS SICK!!!
I feel like wheel will come off 😂
It happened to me with a cheap Chinese made ebike and i broke my face needing surgery. When i put the thing together i knew i shouldn't have trusted it
Where can I find a longer seatpost? or an adapter for a round pipe?
Вилка теперь работает нормально или брак?
would anything possible be gained by using Loctite Threadlocker to the bolt (and only the bolt)?
Does this model come with power meter?
Just got one can't wait to ride it
Where are you guys based
This thing is only worth riding downhill. It is totally useless on the road. Only 22 front teeth even an old man has more
It's not a road bike.
I have this bike and it rocks.. I love to hit jumps and manual and shit, so... I upgraded to XT brakes and a 40mm rise bar and it's deadly
@@SocialDem86🤣
I got dilemma between new Trance X 29 or 27.5 and Reign 29 2022. Looking for as most as possible all mountain bike. A lot of flat long rides, some uphill and bike parks with jumps and blue trails from time to time. Every tested 27.5 bike was feeling very fun. Im just worried about flat terrain chilly rides. Can I ask for advice? Best Regards
Do hookless rims mean I can't use tires with tubes?
