DIY 90 Watt Portable Panel

This is a follow up to a video I posted 2 years ago. Between supply chain issues, health issues and scheduling, we finally got a chance to install the correct windows and finished this build off. I previously used a wifi direct system that connected to my phone for a display. It worked ok, but each time I out of reverse and back in again, I had to do the connection process again. With the Yakry having it's own display, that is no longer an issue. Here is a link if you're interested. amzn.to/3QkWZdQ

After almost a year of back pain and hip surgery, I was given the ok to go back to work. The trailer walls were insulated before I my body gave up, so I figured I'd start with windows so I can keep it closed up on these cold winter days and still see what I'm doing.
Looking 5 years Back - My First Cargo Trailer Conversion

With no idea how to do it, I decided to convert a cargo trailer to a camper to use when I was working out of town - the old "I hate hotels" thing. I read everything I could, watched every video I could find and went for. It was basic - shore power & city water, not a boon docking trailer at all. But it worked for me, and eventually, for the couple that bought it. It was the start of a whole new...

I don't like to post them here because the trailer in the video is set up a certain way and priced as such. Some people will think that price is the same for any build and it gets akward sometimes.

    Wait, so the fridge runs at .8amps, but what voltage? Amazon seems to have only 120v versions that use about 40w when normalized. Do this model run on 12v, or does the inverter read .8 amps at 12v?

      Try connecting to a constant 12v source, uninstall & re-install the app and see if it will connect to your phone. If not, contact the manufacturer. I did not connect to a back up light, I used a license plate light. When I used a back up light, every time I had to go out of reverse and back to reverse, I had to reconnect the app to the camera. Now, I just turn on my lights, get hooked up & turn lights off. A bonus is that at night, I have a rear view camera if I want to use it.

    You might get away by using a small microwave oven. I have one that uses about 600 watts I even used it in our sienna. You could also turn off the refrigerator until you are done microwaving. I have a cooler/freezer that runs on 12 or 24 VDC. I would think you would save battery by shutting down the power inverter even at no load the inverter uses power. Of course the AC unit would drain the batteries real quick. I think the best thing would be to run everything on battery power if you can afford the 12/24 VDC appliances. I like your work especially the walls and cabinets and the ceiling. Thanks for posting. 73

    • @TinyTrailers4BigAdventures
      @TinyTrailers4BigAdventures Рік тому

      Thanks for checking out the video. They 90% stay at places with hook ups. The other 10%, they use a 2000 wat generator. The solar was designed to run the fridge while the trailer was being towed, the vent fan, and lights. The microwave is a 700 watt rated unit but it actually draws 1100 watts. The ac draws 500 watts and along with the microwave, runs solely on shore/generator power. There is not enough room on the roof to put on enough panels nor did they have the budget for enough batteries to run the ac on solar. The tongue & groove on the walls and ceiling give the illusion that the trailer is bigger than it actually is and the light color keeps it from feeling like a cave. I'm working on a plan to be able to make the sofa/bed system in a free standing unit to be used in bigger trailers.

      Thank you. Once a lock is put into the flip latch, the bar can't go down far enough to hold the door closed. We have tested this onseveral trailers and even 7 year old girls can open the doo with no problem.
