Hooker Creek DH and Ridgeline in DuPont State Forest
Richard, who is new to mountain biking takes down Hooker Creek and Ridgeline in DuPont State Forest. This was his second time down Hooker Creek and his third time down Ridgeline. It was also his first time on a proper full suspension mountain bike from Santa Cruz. The bike was rented from The Hub in Brevard, NC.

The Sauce rides down Ridgeline on his Trek Marlin | MTB | Dupont State Forest

After riding Ridgeline a few times on a full suspension bike from The Hub, the Sauce is back to riding down Ridgeline on his hardtail. With his full suspension rental he was able to do Ridgeline in 6 minutes, with the hard tail it took him 1 minute and 20 seconds longer. Mostly as he was bucked around more which caused him to slow down in areas. Next week we are riding down the trail again and ...

That pinching at the back with fox will kill you on long pedalling, And it is also the same with the RF Ambush D30. It didn't work at all for me.

It's all based on head size, not so much age. All helmet manufactures will have a size chart based on the measurements of your head to determine the best size. I still will try and find helmets local though as even then size can be subjective, and I want him to be comfortable in what he ends up wearing.

The Sauce mentioned the difference between the two bikes is extreme, and you can even see it in how he is able to handle the bike. The Ripcord allows him to go faster and maintain much more control over the Trek Marlin 8. We are currently saving up for a full suspension bike for him. What suggestions do you have that will fit a 10 year old. We know of a few, such as Transitions Ripcord, and also some from YT and Canyon.

Coaching comments are welcome. He still has some hesitation, and this was his first time down. So I believe he will go faster next next. I know he's gripping the bars too hard. I have a feeling based on the angle of the camera he didn't stand either, he probably forgot due to the excitement. It's not too rough on the trail and it's easy to pick up a good amount of speed going down. He has improved since getting his new Marlin 8 with 26" wheels. I tell him to look further ahead, not directly in front of him, loosen his grip a little, shift his weight into his legs, which will help with his wrists from the bumps, and just have fun.

Did you have any trouble with (what I think they should be) the Formula hubs that come with that wheel configuration (on the Essential version) ? I think I am getting a Race version not only for some other better components (shocks and brakes) but also for better wheel composition (DT 350 hubs with faster engagement). I think the 17 degrees engagement (means 20 per revolution) of the hubs that come with the Essential version would drive me crazy (being used to trial bike hubs with at least 56 engagements).

This is a couple years old, but if you're still checking... I'm looking for knee/shin guards. I ride mostly DH and have slipped off my pedals so many times I just can't convince myself to go knee only, but I'm having a hard time finding ones that look like they'll work. I have some really old RF ones, but the elastic is going bad. I'm pretty small so they fit like the Fox ones on your son. I really don't like the full compression sleeve kind, but that seems to be the norm these days.. they don't fit properly though and it's a struggle. Did you end up finding another knee/shin guard that can open up or is mostly open in the back? a lot of them look a lot shorter too. Thanks!

I'm still using the Race Face ones. I've tried Fox and 7iDP as well. While the 7iDP ones are nice and still fit well, they are harder to get on and off, and you need to remove your shoes to do so. The race face ones are easy to put on and off, stay in place, and are comfortable enough that you are not too aware you are using them.

I did this when i started where it was Mostly arm pulling. I learned it helped to Preload the bars, then throw your hips down and back where your butt is just about to the end of the rear tire, making sure your arms stay straight. Making your body weight create lift instead of your arms. It’s a lot easier for yourself and less wear on the body.

Tip, it's best to start matching up and screwing in the initial threads of pedal spindle first without tools. Easy to cross thread and cause damage if you're applying force from a tool before the threads are aligned.

When my kids first started riding, both wanted to sit all the time. To force them to stand I put the seat all the way down so if they wanted to pedal they had to stand. After a few miles of that, they stopped sitting, and I put the seats back up about 80% of the way. Also this usually forces them to keep the pedals level on trails, or at least it makes it easier to reinforce that practice while riding.

I have the CooSpo BC200. I am having issues. Stay away from Coospo if possible. My issue is the connection drops between the BC200 and the CooSpo Speed Sensor. When riding, suddenly you get 0 kph on your display even if your speeding away. It will eventually come back and show you your correct speed but you have no control over it. The result is your Scoopo ride report is a shorter ride compared to the Strava reported ride, because Coospo failed to record the 100% distance of the ride. I have been in communication with Coospo via email. But they're input are almost useful. The only way to have my Coospo BC200 working smoothly is if I use GPS as primary speed sensor. And basically just throw away the CooSpo Speed Sensor that I purchased with it. I have a UA-cam channel myself, and I'll explain all this issue on coming UA-cam video I'll be making. I really feel my decision to by the CooSpo BC200 was a waste of money.
