London Walking Tour Through Enchanting Epping Forest - NATURE [4K]
Join me on a London walking tour through Enchanting Epping Forest, London's largest and most picturesque forest. Starting at Butler's Retreat in Chingford, I explore the scenic beauty of this serene woodland, bustling with families, friends, and nature enthusiasts. As I journey northward, I encounter grazing cows, playful dogs, and people soaking up the peaceful vibes of a weekend morning. My walk concludes in the charming Loughton area of Epping Forest, offering a perfect escape into nature right on London's doorstep.

HISTORY/ ABOUT:
Epping Forest is a 2,400-hectare (5,900-acre) area of ancient woodland, and other established habitats, which straddles the border between Greater London and Essex. The main body of the forest stretches from Epping in the north, to Chingford on the edge of the London built-up area. South of Chingford the forest narrows, and forms a green corridor that extends deep into east London, as far as Forest Gate; the forest's position gives rise to its nickname, the Cockney Paradise. It is the largest forest in London.
It lies on a ridge between the valleys of the rivers Lea and Roding. It contains areas of woodland, grassland, heath, streams, bogs and ponds, and its elevation and thin gravelly soil (the result of glaciation) historically made it less suitable for agriculture. The forest was historically managed as a common; the land was held by a number of local landowners who exercised economic rights over aspects such as timber, while local commoners had grazing and other rights. It was designated a royal forest meaning that only the monarch had the right to hunt deer.
The area that became Epping Forest has been continuously wooded since Neolithic times. Embankments of two Iron Age earthworks - Loughton Camp and Ambresbury Banks[5] - can be found in the woodland, but pollen profiles show that Iron Age occupation had no significant effect on woodland cover. The former small leaved lime (also known as pry or linden) dominated woodland permanently changed during the Anglo-Saxon period, possibly as a result of the selective cutting of trees. Today's beech-birch and oak-hornbeam-dominated forest may be the result of partial forest clearance in Saxon times.
FUN FACTS:
- Epping Forest has frequently been the setting for novels, and has attracted poets, artists and musicians for centuries. Many of these artists lived at Loughton. Loughton is also home to the East 15 Acting School and its Corbett Theatre.
- In the British BBC soap opera screened in February 1999, EastEnders, fictional character Steve Owen (Martin Kemp) accidentally killed his stalker Saskia Duncan (Deborah-Sheridin Taylor). He later panicked and buried her body in the forest. It was discovered 10 months later.
- The forest has long standing criminal associations. In the 18th century, Epping Forest became notorious as the haunt of highwaymen, who preyed on the coaches of wealthy racegoers on the road from London to Newmarket. Dick Turpin and Tom King used the forest as a hideaway, and Jack Rann, known as "Sixteen String Jack", had a pub named after him in Theydon Bois.

Thames Foreshore Permits have been suspended for mud larking and I’m wondering when this will be lifted. ? Here is what I found thus far: Why have you removed the ability to request a foreshore permit? In consultation with the Museum of London and Historic England, we've paused issuing new permits to protect the foreshore of the tidal River Thames, a delicate historical site that has come under increasing pressure from visitors.
Thanks for pointing that out! Yes, I’ve heard that new foreshore permits have been paused to help protect the Thames. It’s a delicate balance between exploring history and preserving it though, but it seems like they're working with experts to find the best solution. Hopefully, they’ll lift the suspension soon with some new guidelines that allow us to keep enjoying mudlarking
Beautiful green trees 🌲
Very Beautiful!
Great place for walking ❤ Very beautiful scenery 👌
Thank you for watching! I’m glad you liked it 😊
Another excellent video. It is incredible how the canal walk and all that greenery is so close to Westfield.
😊 Thanks again for watching! There is a nice bit of hidden greenery around the Westfield area. Epping Forest isn’t too far and there’s also the River Lee and Wanstead Park too
Who would have thought near Heathrow there would be such beautiful woodlands and greenery. You could even though some wild camping !!!! Just loved the Church of Dunstan ? Also you walked over a bridge that was built in 1776 ?? That is why London is a world class city. So much history. Once again wonderful video.
I know right?! I was surprised myself. The Woodlands is Beautiful and it’s off the beaten path, so great if you want a quiet walk. Thanks again for watching 😊
Another excellent saunter! Thanks for sharing mate!

My friend, not sure why I enjoy your canal walks? In fact, I like them more than the Thames Path walks- which are of course fantastic. I also very much enjoyed your last walk amongst the ruins of the Abby/Monastery. Your walks are phenomenal, I wish more people were exposed to your videos. Give my regards to the ducks!!!
😊Thank you so much for your kind words, I’m glad to hear you enjoy the Canal walks. I also enjoy filming them the most too. They are very peaceful Sure thing! I’ll tell them you said they’re ‘ducking’ fantastic! 🦆😄

Excellent video. That running track in Finsbury Park reminded me of my rugby training days! On a separate note, I read today that there is a previously closed of part of the Thames Path that has reopened to the public. Previously part of the riverside walk near to Craven Cottage football ground had been closed to the public and people had to follow a diversion but now that work on refurbishing the stand has been completed, the riverside pathway beside the football stadium has been reopened. I believe that it may not be accessible during match times but otherwise it is open to the public.
Thank you so much for watching! I really appreciate your feedback and also enjoy watching your Ship Spotting videos! I know exactly which part of craven cottage you're talking about, last time I did a walk there it was closed and had to go another route. Thanks also for the heads up, I didn't know it has reopened now! There are so many parts of the Thames Path which are closed and it can be quite annoying when filming sometimes 😅
Thanks a lot for a nice walk. Have a great day my friend!
Thank you for watching! I’m glad you enjoyed it 😊

Excellent video. Beckton is a nice area of London and I have caught the DLR to / from there a number of times. Great view of City Airport and the Luxair plane taking off as well!
😊 Thanks for watching, Glad you liked it! It is a really nice area with a surprisingly large amount of Green space. Im surprised it isn’t talked about more as a hidden gem (probably the smells from the sewage works)
1:16:59 Apparently the dog is waking the human. Adorable. Such a humble guy. He would be a good father.
😂 That’s a great spot! That Dog marches to its best of its own drum
I've been told the oncoming Cyclist was in the wrong and needed to have respect due to the oncoming wheelchair user. Comment below with which Cyclist you think was in the wrong 👇

What happened to summer? Sometimes I think the English rain is more beautiful than the English Sun. Oh well, the ducks just love this kind of weather. Don't tell them that !!!! Great video .. as usual.
Thank you so much! I agree, there's something truly magical about the English rain-it's like nature’s own symphony. And yes, the ducks definitely seem to enjoy it more than anyone! 😁 I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Your support means a lot!
Another excellent and relaxing video. It is great to see so many trees and greenery so close to the river.
Thanks again for watching! I’m glad you enjoyed the walk 😊 Yes, this part of the Thames Path near Richmond is Beautiful

Great video, riding a bike should be banned along our canal paths, most of them ride way to fast
Thank you so much for watching! It is much appreciated 😊. I agree about the Cycling on Canal Paths, it is really dangerous
A lovely walk through a very upmarket part of London. I enjoy how each dog you pass gets some special attention. Particularly handsome were the Golden Retriever and Cavalier King Charles. I grew up with and have always loved dogs, have you ever had dogs?
Thanks for your comment, your regular support is much appreciated! I’ve had a Cat, but never a Dog. I do love them though and through these walks they have really grown on me. I’m planning to get one in the near future 😁
Nice walking in beautiful nature.👍

Fantastic walk. I love Strand on the Green. I lived in Kew and spent many days by the river. Thank you for amazing video. 😅😅😅
Thank you so much for watching! I’m glad you enjoyed the walk. Strand in the Green is a lovely area, probably one of my favourite parts of London and it has some of the best views of the Thames 😊
I was there in April sitting on a little wall because my new shoes were killing me after walking so much and a nice old man was walking his adorable dachshund puppy and saw me looking at it and came over to me so I could pet the dog. It really made my day
That’s a really lovely story! Loving the positivity, thanks for sharing 😊
Thank you for your efforts look forward to doing this soon subbed 🙏👍
Thank you for watching! I’m glad you enjoyed the walk 😊
مكان رائع للغاية..! 💜💐💙
Thank you for watching, I’m glad you enjoyed the walk 😊
They should not allow cyclists at all on these canals period. They have made provisions on the roads with bike lanes. Stay on the roads !!! As always a thoroughly enjoyable walk , with all the sights and sounds of a vibrant area of London. Thank you to you and of course those wonderful ducks.
I agree! Especially when there are little kids around, It’s really dangerous
That dude biked it as fast as he could😂
He saw the Camera and thought, ‘best get a move on’ 😂
"Lovely weather - for ducks"
😂 I like it!
