Metallica/Megadeth type song by Luke
Lots of cool riffs plus a Metallica-ish part from 2:48 - 3:50 and a Megadeth-ish part at 4:23 to the end. Hope you like it!!!

TOOL's Chocolate Chip Trip Inspired Song by Luke Smith

This is one was created with recording drums first. I was messing around in whatever time signature the intro is in and then the ideas came after that. Thanks to my GX-100 guitar effects board, I got some really trippy tones for the intro!

Flying Whales inspired song by Luke Smith

This song was inspired by Flying Whales by Gojira. During the writing process, I didn't realize that I was following a very similar structure, but regardless the riffs are different.

Is this song on Spotify and if so what’s it under ?
@@myvault3532 No it's not. I don't have a Spotify. I just post my songs on UA-cam for now.
@@thrashnicity5913I really enjoyed this one. 👍
2:57 Middle-aged, silver-haired woman walking past while grimacing and shielding her face... Cracked me up!
The lead guitarist was good
Very awesome! My kid loves when I attempt to sing that one note on "All I wanted was YOUOOOUUU" !!! Yo, I got a few cool old clips of Paramore on tv, if you like old clips of Paramore?!
Yeah sure I'll check it out
such a solid cover, and such good sound control for an outside space. keep it up!
Sick cover! Mid tier Michigan Drummer here, I only hope to one day have chops like that. Where is this at?
Yeah our drummer Landon is nuts. This was at a music event in Issaquah, WA called Make Music Issaquah!
Anyone who can accurately (even remotely closely) emulate Danny Carey on drums deserves my respect. Turn that bass up more!!!!
Yes, the bass should lead the song!
Great job, guys. Really cool.
Fuck yeah!!!!🔥🔥
I see about 500 bands like this everyday with the chick lead singer i know maybe green day told you this was a good idea but she is holding yall back boys time to go to kijiji 😂
Interesting, I think she did a kick ass job
what a wonderfully terrible take! she crushed it, tool is hard no matter what and here you are with no stake in any of this shitting on a great performance. may the door break your ass on the way out
That was Shit hot!! That china cymbal is bad ass!!! Watching from Notts England 😁
Nice job, Tool is not easy to cover. 😄
You guys did it really well. Congrats 👏
Tool, Gojira, you got great taste dude.
This is both cool and funny.
We should collab sometime. Even if remotely I'd be down, I'm from Utah
I'm from Washington so it would have to be remote, but how would we do that?
W
There is something about drums that sound raw when they are tracked at the same time as the rest of the musicians. Yeah that might not sound as full or as bold especially if they are not multi-tracked for every tension rod on the snare or if the dryness or brightness of cymbals might be a bit off but it real
This is honestly really good. You see people trying to do Tool inspired songs that just don't work, this definitely works. The only thing holding it back is drum mixing is a little loud, even for Tool song. It works really well in some parts, but it's distracting in other parts. Tools mixing has always been legendary though, maybe it's me being overly critical.
Thank you so much! The drum mixing and sound in general is definitely nowhere near what I want it to be, but part of that is because I had only one mic and the precision is a little sloppy anyway. I'm a guitar player first, and a beginner drummer (2 years of experience) but it was good enough for this purpose.
I definitely wouldn't have guess that was done on one mic. I also wouldn't have guess only 2 years on the drums either. Mad respect.
@@Poshriel thank you very much! It's nice to hear people appreciating my projects!
It's almost as good as Tim Alexander's drum track on pork soda AKA Wounded Knee..... brilliant drummers playing brilliant percussive parts; hats off to Danny for this as well....he really brought it
It actually sounds like an unwritten Tool song.
That was not the intended end goal, but I am a huge TOOL fan so I think that my subconscious was trying to recreate something similar
Did you do all the parts?
Yes!!
I'm a singer/ song writer myself, is there any chance you'd be interested in collabing?
@@LukeDunn6667 yeah sure, do you want to put lyrics and sing over my song?
sounds sick, i like it :D
sounds sick af, replayed it a few times

Flying Whales seem impossible but evolution is weird. I recently learned from PBS that whales descended from wolf like mammals that returned to the waters similar to hippos and they have remaining traits today like their canine and incisor teeth and tiny pelvis bone!
It's interesting to think about! Are you familiar with GOJIRA? They have a song called flying whales that I was inspired by.
@@thrashnicity5913 Yeah, only a little familiar with them, so I remember the reference only because you mentioned it! I never had any of their cd's but watched a live stream concert from Red Rocks that one time with James Hetfield there just off stage. FunFact: The "Gojira Scrape" was in at least one band prior to Gojira, check out Forced Entry - As Above, So Below full album! Some awesome guitardistry!
UhOh, you gots the FUNK!

Freakin' SICK, DOPE, Cool and RAD! Great stereo sound on the guitars going on, nice journey of a instrumental with many elements going on! Drummer dude and bass jamz too for sure!
Thank you! I haven't posted anything in the last year, but it's because I've been working more on stuff like this.
This is only cover that I found on yt, seriously What tuning did they use in this song?
Thanks for that lesson sir
Thanks dude! I’m learning this as soon as I get home
Bro what is the tuning
It's drop D. Thanks for watching!
Thank you! Can we have more Opeth please?
Sure! What song should I do?
@@thrashnicity5913A song you like of them. It doesn't matter which. Possibly not Harvest or Coil, cause I've already studied them.
@@alessandromariani99 ok, I'm thinking Face of Melinda
Killed it dude!
Thank you! You're awesome!
Thanks for watching! When I was deciding whether to do the video or not, I found zero other lessons on youtube for this section, so that made me want to do it even more.
Sounds great man!
Yo, it's a nicely arranged solo with some cool licks and runs and ur hitting all the notes fluid and smooth like those Marty Friedman leads from Hangar 18! Camera quality is fine, I've seen the coolest mind blowing stuff around the world on here from a kid in a shack in the jungle shredding Lamb of God on acoustic to this Deden Noy dude playing homemade drums so Mike Portnoy sent him one of his drum sets!
Thanks, I'm going to redo Hangar 18 soon, in this type of setting so I can try to play it a little cleaner
@@thrashnicity5913 Ok yeah! People will dig that and Fade to Black Live was damn flawless, also! Both are probably high on the searches and people want to see up close I bet!
Spot on, another good choice. I was obviously bitter at grunge signalling the fall of thrash but I secretly liked Pearl Jam's groove and singing along... don't tell anyone! We were pretty close to that scene as it was happening, I remember the end of our free 2nd annual Halloween Mosh gig at the skatepark we had some friends come up and jam and Jaime started the Smells Like Teens Spirit riff and the chicks start screaming and I learned it there on the spot before ever hearing it. Our bassist was huge on Primus and Infectious Grooves, learning some funk slap, so one day we wrote 2 funky/grunge/metal songs that were like freestyle jam improv and I was experimenting with some more funk chords and clean channel solo's between heavy parts and lyrics off the top of my head, lol... We taped them on boombox in the attic to remember and arrange properly later with working titles One Calorie Jam & H8 SUX that I put as bonus tracks on the end of our 4 track thrash demo.
It's amazing to me that you have story for every song that I play! You had a band in highschool right? I'm trying to find people to form a band outside of this rock academy but it's few and far between. Sometimes I wish I was alive during the 80s for that reason: I wouldn't be one of the few who liked that stuff and it would be easier to jam with people.
@@thrashnicity5913 Lol, I'm like the "Grandpa Simpson" of metal... like when the kids ask him something simple and he goes on tangents for an hour, haha... Seems like Craigslist in ur area would have a lot of ads under "musicians"? I was lucky to meet Chip in 8th grade who had drums and cool parents that let us jam almost every day in the attic before we could hardly even play a power chord. We were like Bill&Ted... I only had about 5 or 7 official lessons the year before and crappy gear but we made stuff up and tried covers by ear and within a couple years got pretty tight. My playlists shows the progression by year, I hope to inspire and you are way ahead in skill and deserve a band! */w\TMFR/w\*
Very cool, I don't know the song but it has a interesting vocal phrasing and she is nailing it and has a cool jazzy soulful style to vocal.
Thanks, she is a great singer! We actually did Hangar 18 also, and she sounds better than Dave Mustaine I think!
How F'n COOL, playing classic Metallica at the Hard ROCK! I must have missed this notification? This is one of the 1st songs I learned after For Whom the Bells Tolls, we made a video playing it terribly on the drummers front porch as part of a dream sequence for a lesson on Greek mythology just to spam the class with some Metallica around 1989.
Thats awesome haha! This has been one of my long-time favorites ever since i was young
@@thrashnicity5913 Heck yeah man, it's the next logical step after dad shows House of the Rising Sun chords!
