Used to listen to this as a kid in Glasgow. It was between Clyde (1152) and Virgin (1215) on MW. Clear as a whistle every night. Used to tune in for 60 Degrees North I think it was called - a magazine show in English. The jingle is so haunting and a reminder of happy and simple times.

This and radio Tirana were pretty common to hear, back in the 70's.

OMG memories,I always remembered a strange jingle whilst listening to the radio in the 80's ,I just couldn't remember the station ,radio luxembourg no,Atlantic 252 no,then I typed in radio stockholm no but it brought me here ,glad I now which station it was as I would have never gone to sleep 😂

I this sounds hear with crystal radio in Latvia.

The music is called Out in the Wide World by Ralph Lundsten. The album is called In the Fairytale World, and it's on Spotify! His music is magical. Enjoy.

I was in Germany for 6 months around 1999, and listened to this every night. The magic of hearing a local language and this jingle, on a sketchy MW connection that would fade in and out. Just like Radio Luxemburg some years before that.

Wow, can't believe I found it! Remember sitting in London as a kid tuning into weird and wonderful sounds coming in on shortwave/medium wave. This tune was especially magical. It was the same time as the Star Wars films were coming out. And it sounded as exotic and exciting as anything if it had come in from outer space. BTW, thought this was coming from the Soviet Union - so a few miles off.

Haunting and evocative. I never heard it until now, yet it still arouses a feeling of longing and nostalgia.

This used to scare the s*** out of me as a kid. I could hear it in my nightmares.

Shortwave should NEVER Die! It's sad when interval signals like this are not heard on the air anymore. I used to hear this and Swiss Radio Int'l and Radio Deutsche Welle and it's not the same without their interval signals on Shortwave anymore. That's how we know what station we were listening to. Not everybody is able to afford Satellite radio or internet service - no matter what location in the world. Shortwave should not be looked down on as a thing of the past. Shortwave is still going on! I still listen to Shortwave and SSB comms when I am able to :) To all the Shortwave stations - Please, Bring Back Your Interval Signals! :)

Same here. I am from far-off Argentina and used to have pen-friends in my teens and still have some in Sweden. And RSI was a nice company in my nights sometimes. This jingle will always be on my mind. Besides I started to love the Swedish language, the only Nordic language I have learned, though a little but enough to understand so much from Sweden. So Hälsningar fr°an Argentina, my friend.

Tuned into this station as a teenager in Stockholm at 89.6 mHz on the FM band. Such simple times they where.

Thanks for the info. I used to play this tune just like the jingle on the bells sound of my Yamaha DX7 when I was a teen. Loved listening to RSI at night. Always did want to know who composed it and what it was called. Found it translates as Out In The Wide World and downloaded the whole album from Amazon. ^_^ The whole album is good. :)

My story is very similar to silverhorseavenger's. We're the same age, too. Through most of the '80s, when I should've been sleeping, I plugged the headphones into my trusty Goodmans Walkman, can't remember the model but very similar to the PM95s, flick it over to MW (nothing really interested me on the UK FM stations at night) & listen to Radio Sweden International. I found this tune both haunting and soothing at the same time. It seemed to somehow convey the distance the signal was coming from.

Wow, so good to hear this again! When I was a teenager in the 80's, my radio used to pick this station/jingle up a lot. I have never forgotten the tune. Last night I recorded myself humming the tune and today I looked for it on UA-cam and found this great video. I was a few notes out but that tune will be imprinted on my memory forever!

Wow-this brings back so many childhood memories. Sweden Calling DX-ers, Sarah Roxstrom and the array of excellent programming.

Used to listen to this late at night from Hull University 1985-88. Great tune and memories.

We haven't used that interval signal or the signature ("Ut i vida världen" by Rolf Lundsten for a long time now. Our current signature will still be available on satellite, FM and online. (George Wood, Radio Sweden)
