A principios de 2022, la Asociación KBA lanzó el proyecto “Áreas clave para la biodiversidad: establecimiento del modelo 30×30”, financiado por el Fondo Bezos para la Tierra. Este proyecto pionero, dirigido por BirdLife International y sus socios implementadores, ayudó a identificar los sitios más importantes para la naturaleza en siete países de dos de las regiones con mayor biodiversidad del mundo: los Andes tropicales y la cuenca del Congo.
