This is the first read through of The first symphony of Ludwig van Beethoven by the Haydn and Beyond Workshop orchestra of Music Center of the Northwest. We had rehearsed the piece for over an hour and a half and then made this video. Obviously we don't have trumpets, but they will come later.

I originally composed this in the spring before the COVID virus became a pandemic. I recently have reworked it. It's for an orchestra of flute, alto flute, oboe, english horn, clarinet, bass clarinet, horn, trumpet/flugelhorn, trombone, euphonium, timpani, harp and strings.

awesome piece. i wonder how it would shine with a real orchestra. I think the timpani playback would sound a lot better in musescore
Thanx for the feedback. I actually like the timp sound that Sibelius has. In some places it could have been louder but I wrote the dynamics for performance. When the orchestra plays it in March I can get the balance better.
I can imagine this as the backdrop to a movie.
I went through the Pulitzer prize winning orchestral compositions of the last 20 years and discovered how un melodic they all were. Cool orchestrations and lots of dissonance but nothing close to recognizable melodies. Classical music abdicated melody to Hollywood in the 1940's and seemed to want to drop it from it's possibilities. So in composing music with melodies and recognizable themes it makes sense to have the sensibility of being written for a movie.
Lovely!
Dikla and I could play two of the four parts! Melet Whinston
Wonderful! I would love to play the quartet if you would be willing to share your music!
Of course Melet. I would love to have the whole quartet done. Dikla actually read through a movement of it a month or so ago. Let's talk.
Very cool music!
I especially like the lead up to D. Thanks for this.
Glad you enjoy it.
