I'm not an expert, but I have had this problem before. Whatever you're using as lighting is making your image too bright. I'd recommend pointing it at something flat and white and bouncing the light off of that or even covering the light with a small round sheet of parchment paper to diffuse some of the light you've got. Good luck, I hope this helps (it should assist with that trouble focusing your camera you've got).
