Don Wyatt - The Mitigation of Punishments: An Unexamined Aspect of Chinese Slavery in Antiquity
Переглядів 1132 роки тому
From time immemorial until even as recently as the latter part of the twentieth century, punishment in China was often identified with and by mutilation. Therefore, given its largely punitive origins, Chinese slavery, especially in earliest times, correspondingly exhibited a close association with mutilative practices. Interestingly, however, early in the second century BCE, if not earlier, thi...
RGDST Talk, Kathleen James-Chakraborty, "Expanding Agency: Women And Modern Architecture And Design"
Переглядів 2742 роки тому
The recent explosion of interest in the work of female architects does not fully capture the impact that woman have had on the shaping of the built environment. Documenting their activity as journalists, entrepreneurs, and institution builders, as well as extending the established scholarship on women’s patronage, enhances our ability to map their influence. Between 1920 and 1970, for instance,...

I would like to notify to Eric Mack that failing in your "Duty of Rescue" is a crime in most countries. When you see a car crash you have to stop and assist the injured. Failing to do so is a crime.

The speaker took a right turn to explain the liberalism of Constant and de Stael as related to Protestantism. But she immediately launched into cliches about how their Calvinism was void of religious doctrines. That the thinkers may raise questions about their love lives should not be taken to mean a lack of metaphysical foundations. Her biases show forth in her reaction to question on state and church.

A spectacularly suggestive talk, and at least hinting at a Cambridge reantiquarianising of modern discussion more profound in its implications than Skinner's Liberty before Liberalism or Tuck's Sleeping Sovereign. The use of quotation was exemplary.

The true third way is best described as "cooperative individualism," to secure and protect individual liberty within a cooperative societal framework. The principles are straightforward as a basis for societal laws. Here is a succinct explanation of what this would look like: www.cooperative-individualism.org/principles.htm.
