Welcome to This Tiny Space!
My name is Jedda and I have been renting small apartments, tiny flats and teeny micro studios for over 30 years!!
From bedsits in Sydney to granny flats in London to tiny studios in Dublin, the one thing they all had in common, is they were all an exercise in compact living!
With three decades of renting challenging spaces and tiny apartments under my belt, I've become a renter hack pro! I have picked up more than my fair share of storage solutions for small spaces, renter solutions for ugly apartment decor and making tiny flats seem bigger & more functional.
Each space presents it's own challenge and after 36 house moves (I stopped counting at the 36th move) I decided to share my challenges and solutions here, on UA-cam, with you guys!
I hope you find some of my tips and tricks useful for your space - be it big or small - so if that sounds like your jam, hit the SUBSCRIBE button so you never miss a This Tiny Space video.
See you out there!

How I transformed my little 2.6 x 6.5 ft narrow inner city balcony, into my own private little oasis - despite being on the busiest road in all of Sydney, AND being looked into by both my neighbours!
By just using a few cheap pieces from the hardware store & IKEA.
For those with a green thumb - trigger warning: I managed to kill most of my plants because I'm a terrible gardener!
So if you're looking to do balcony makeover in your tiny apartment, I hope you find some useful tips & tricks.
Thanks for watching!
Please Note: I am NOT a professional UA-camr!
I created an Instagram account (This Tiny Space) to share my 18-month journey, living in tiny rented Micro Studio in Sydney, Australia (link below) so I could share my interiors/ renter friendly / space saving & organisational tips and tricks along the way, with fellow tiny space dwellers & renters.
Since then, I have decided to try cobble those clips & posts together, in the hope some folks who are in the same tiny living / renter boat, might find them useful.
I apologies in advance for the poor picture quality and terrible self-taught basic editing.
I aim to get better!
Hope you enjoy & thanks for stopping by!

How I organise my 100cm, 2 cupboard tiny kitchen, in a 12sqm Micro Studio I Sydney, Australia
Переглядів 881Рік тому
My studio kitchenette only has two upper cupboards (and one under the sink) which means rethinking "pantry storage" AND the amount of dish-ware that is *actually* required (spoiler alert: it's less) On top of the limited space, the cupboards were also pretty high which made accessing the full depth tricky. And when you need to maximise minimal cupboard space in a tiny apartment, every inch coun...
No one talks about it, BUT storing underwear in a tiny space without proper drawers, is an issue!
Переглядів 518Рік тому
I'm going to lift the taboo & share a legit problem when living in a tiny micro studio...Where does your underwear go in a tiny apartment??? I see lots of videos on Instagram of tiny spaces / houses, where the owners seem to own 6 pieces of perfectly colour coded curated clothing. To me, that's just not reality. And it drives me crazy. So I'm going to share with you how I store all my underwear...

How to add extra counter space to a tiny kitchen I DIY Pop out counter top for extra bench space
Переглядів 7 тис.Рік тому
The kitchen in my 12sqm Micro Studio was just 100cm wide (including the sink) which meant only 60cm of usable bench top space for appliances / cooking / food prep etc. I desperately needed more counter space (without covering the sink), so I came up with this simple IKEA hack, which took my tiny kitchenette from maddening, to manageable! Counter top from IKEA ($79) www.ikea.com/au/en/p/lilltrae...

I want to give you one billion likes and subscriptions if i could❤
I am so nosey! I am very curious about how much your micro studio costs a month
Sydney real estate is one of the most expensive in the world , most likely for the same price , you could buy a large 3 bedroom home in a smaller city or town in Australia ,
I really love it I'm getting ready to move into a micro apartment you really inspired me
Oh I'm so glad!!! Its a challenge at the start but once you work out how to make the space work for you, you'll settle right in!
lol you are very relatable! It deff is a girl thing to have 100 undies :D
Right!!! Glad to know its not just me!!!! 😅
Wow that is tiny… didn’t realize Sydney have that kind of units
There's more popping up but I think they're very over priced for what they offer personally. My building I think was purpose build for international students going to the near by college originally but all sorts from all walks of life live there now, I definitely think there should be more of them!! Or just affordable housing for solos in general!
Hello , your apartment is cute and very nice. But you are also very likeable and pretty. Warm greetings from Germany🙋♀
Ah thank you! That's very kind of you!!! 🥰
How old are you❤
Why are you asking her that???
@@daisypearl3715Because she is amazing ❤
Hi, Not sure if you still have this channel, but found your video and loved it - - can you tell me the dimensions of your bathroom?
Oh thank you so much!!! I moved out a while ago due to having a crazy neighbour, so I can't take measurements, but bathroom was tiny, (obvs!) The shower was about 90cm x 90cm which was actually standard size - it was to the right of the loo, but the sink was a joke! Barely the width of my hand! So the width of the bathroom was about 90cm & I'm guessing about 200cm long?? Personally I'd have designed it as a wet room to allow for a normal sized sink!! Hope that helps!!
I like your small, but cute apartment 😀👍. Greetings from the UK 🇬🇧 .
Thank you so much Jacqueline! So lovely of you to say 🥰
Jedda where are you now have not seen a recent video from you. Hello from Sydney❤
Hello Vessy! Yes I have been terrible at posting more videos!!! really must get my act together 😂 & post again soon !!
I just moved in my micro studio and I barely could find any decor inspo online , thank you for making this video!!!
Oh that makes me so happy!!! Best of luck & enjoy making it your own! :)
Genius!
Thank you! It worked out a treat!
Ohhhhhh, found it . NICE TIP WITH THE MIRROR TO GIVE THE FEEL OF DOUBLE THE SPACE. I STRUGGLE WITH PLANTS, I THINK THERE IS A LEARNING CURVE TO IT.
For sure!! A green thumb is sadly not something I'm blessed with 😂 the mirror actually made even more of an impact than I was expecting, I highly recommend giving it a try if you can!
Wait!!😮 what? ❤ Girl you rock that. Space and Thanks for the space saving ideas. Will watch again and share. Viewed 8/2023. Ohhhhhh was that a glimpse of an out doors area? If so, would like to see how you decorated it.
My absolute pleasure! It was quite a bit of trial & error but I don't think a single inch went unused!!
how much is the rent?
Good use of space with the Ikea closets, and the pull-out shelf above the fridge. The only thing I'd probably add is color. I would paint to both section-off "rooms," and to create a mood.
Thank you! It was a LOT of trial and error trying to maximize the storage! I actually started out with loads of colour because that's my personal style but the space was so incredibly small that it just didn't work, it make the room feel messy and smaller so I had to work with a pallet that matched the black wall of the balcony which was the main focal point (which you don't see in the video) and it made it flow much better, I couldn't wait to get back to colour when I moved out 18 months later to a "normal' sized apartment!! 😂
What a great idea! Excellent -- and good for you! I'm going to have a look around for those hidden spaces and hopefully do the very same thing myself. Thank you!
Thank you!!! Yes do! There's all sorts of gadgets you can get now that let you make the most of un used space, every little helps!
Love ❤️ it. As someone who specializes in studios I can say you nailed it. You have to make your space work for it 😅
Thanks so much! I've always lived in smaller spaces but this one was definitely a challenge!
It may be tiny but I love it!!!
Thanks so much! 😊
Love this
Thank you Lauren 😊
So cute❤
Thanks so much! 😁
Nice !
Thanks so much!
Pequeñito pero muy bien dercorado.Tiene muy buenas ideas...Gracias por mostrarlo.
My Spanish isn't great but I think this is good! Gracias 😁
Is it your own apartment or its rented and if its on rent whats the rent PW
Hi Asad, rented, I moved out a few years ago but if memory serves it was $230 a week, which was still too much in my opinion for the size but I was grateful for it!
Is it sturdy & will it stay in place?
I had it for a year before I moved out & never had any issues. I used heavy duty runners so found it very sturdy but obviously it's not meant for very heavy weight (ie you wouldn't sit on it!) But for cooking equipment & dishes & food prep it was perfect. If it's fitted correctly it stays in place
@@thistinyspace Awesome. I ❤️ this idea. Thank you!
Genius
Thanks! It's the simple things!
Best idea ever for a tiny space ...brilliant
Thank you! 😊
Such clever stylish tips and tricks love love love
😘
brilliant ideas
Glad you like them!
So so clever
🥰
That bed is a revelation,
It's good isn't it!
Obviously love that idea of using a cupboard for a office space, inspirational
It's in the hallway too so once the door is closed, it just disappeared!
It's wonderful you have that outdoor space; it may be small, but it's a huge feature! the mirror was an excellent addition. I have a studio that I've been renovating for the past year or so (I work 70+ hours a week, so haven't really been able to dive into it). It's the master suite of the neighboring apartment converted into an individual unit ~15 years ago or so. I erected a wall and created a kitchenet, but still need to finish the final touches on everything. I'm on the 1st floor and have "patio" space that I've neglected. Once I get everything completed I'll make a video. I'd love to hear your feedback!
Oh Colby that sounds FAB!! Yes the balcony was a life saver, I think outdoor spaces, no matter how tiny, are absolutely vital! The mirror trick actually made such a huge difference. Re your kitchenette, I'm guessing it's not that big so check out my video on what I did in my kitchenette, you might find it interesting! Would love to see videos as you go so keep us posted when you upload!
Well done 👍🏼
Thank you Susie 😁
The mirror just doubled the space n made those pots n candles look great 👍
Thank you Samantha! It was super cosy at night to look out to 🤗
It’s a lovely space , the fairy lights gives it a warm cozy glow , great idea with the mirror, give illusion or more space x
Thank you 😊
"Plant Cemetary"!! haha I have a black thumb too. My Mom has the most beautiful gardens, me nada! I have one plant. A lily of all things. She's been with me for about 8 yrs. We get each other. haha As tiny as your balcony is the privacy is awesome and makes it so cozy. Love the mirror too. ps I bet the neighbours appreciate the privacy too. :)
My mum is the same! Meanwhile I even manage to kill mint! My peace lily is the ONLY indoor plant I have ever managed to keep alive! I have the same relationship with my jasmine..it's a beautiful thing. Thank you for your lovely compliments 😊
@@thistinyspace I killed an Air Plant!! lol who knew you had to spritz them with water?!! LOL
@@kb9847 😂😂😂 I wouldn't have known that either!
@@thistinyspace LOL Have a great day! :)
You've made maximum use of a very small space!
Thanks Bob! 😊
LOVING the fairy lights and mirror. What a great idea!
Thank you so much! It was such a simple thing but honestly it made such a huge difference. Living in such a super tiny space, but being able to look out to pretty lights in the evening, made the space liveable & less claustrophobic. It would work anywhere though! Thanks so much for watching & your lovely comments 😊
Love the lanterns!! So pretty! Where are they from?
Thank you, I love them too! The black one was a sale find in H&M & I think the bamboo one is IKEA..the battery lights are a set of 3 I got in IKEA. They use a lot battery power so I bought rechargeable batteries (also IKEA) cause, ya know, the planet & stuff! Thanks for stopping by 😀
I love your style! I love that you added that mirror. You're clearly making the best of the space you've got!!!
Thanks so much! 😊 the mirror was fiddly to put up but it made such a HUGE difference to the space, especially at night when I was sitting on the sofa, I could see all the pretty lights reflected in it. Thanks so much for watching x
Haaha love the "garden shed" very chic way to hide the plant supplies
Thank you! It does the job!
I brought the storage bags but haven’t used them yet Why I don’t know 🤷♀️ but will be storing my spices in them instead of the jars , love the measuring cup’s genius
Oh you won't know yourself! The amount of space they save is crazy! I highly suggest labelling them as you go, there was one I didn't do for some reason & I'm never *quite* sure if it's what I think it 😂
Those bags are such a space saver!!!
Theyre so handy & they take up so little space compared to bulky jars!
Brilliant storage solutions. I LOVE the soup and spice pouches! I'm a big fan of your Full Tour video from 2 years ago, too.
Ah thanks Jen! Aren't they the cutest!! I've been doing something similar with regular ziplock bags for years because they just take up so much less space than standard packaging & are much less messy (peas in freezer especially!) but I LOVE these! You can get them everywhere online now. That's very kind of you to say! I've since moved (twice!) so thought it was high time I actually posted the little vids I made for Instagram when I was in the micro studio to cover all the bits in detail that you don't get to see in the full tour.
Oh and there's one coming up of the balcony which I didn't feature in the full tour because my crazy neighbour was in a shouty mood that day so I couldn't film it at the time, so stay tuned for that! :)
Looks fabulous and so clever, so so clever 🤩
Thanks! X
I have done this in my home! I don’t have a dresser, I hang mostly everything, and use this in the inside of my closet door! Mine is clear, I like being able to see the stuff. It’s great space saver.
It's so effective isn't it?! I had them in 2 of the 3 wardrobes (and one on the bathroom door for towels, toilet roll & products) & I was amazed at how much stuff they hold! Total space saver
Great idea but I could hardly concentrate, you are just so pretty! Such beautiful skin. Thanks for sharing this great tip, will be trying to do something similar. Wish me luck! 🤞
Haahaaa! That's very sweet of you! If you look in the description box below, the hardware store where I bought the sliders, now has a video explaining how to fit them (which I could have done with at the time!) I think they're all pretty similar so regardless what brand you buy, I think it should be helpful. The measuring is the tricky bit & it helps if you have an extra pair of hands (I didn't so you can still totally do it by Yourself) best of luck!!! Hope it goes well!
I thought the same thing, very pretty!! And funny too - “sweary” - ha! I will also be trying to install a new drawer slide counter top!! 🏆🏆🏆
@@SuperClare haahaa thank you!!! 😊 It's a bit fiddly to get the measurements right but so incredibly worth it!!! Keep us posted!!
So clever!! And cheap!!!
