Here at the attic we build and benchmark gaming PCs from years long past, test interesting and unique hardware, and generally tinker around with all kinds of stuff. It all started with our desire to build computers we could never afford when they were the latest and greatest.
This is our hobby, and we're by no means professional, take a look at our projects and hopefully, we can have fun together.
See ya around.

Intel i740 vs Intel Arc A750 ( Intel is perpetually late )
Intel Arc is Intel’s new dedicated graphics card line, aimed at competing in the discrete GPU market dominated by NVIDIA and AMD.
But is it the first time that Intel has tried to break through to this market?
The answer is a resounding no. In 1998 Intel released its very first GPU, Intel i740.
But how does this attempt compare to the latest one? Let's find out.

2006 Ultimate High End Gaming PC Build
I used to build PCs in 98 at my dads computer shop. Never seen a CPU that goes in a slot like that!
My secondary “junk build” PC has this same motherboard and a lightly overclocked i5-3570K and a GTX 1050 Ti and 16GB ram. It’s running Windows 11 and I use it for school work and some basic gaming like Roblox or Fortnite during school weeks. In the weekends I go to my dad where I have my higher end gaming pc, but I gotta say these 2012 parts are holding up quite well with modern software, it’s not slow at all! It even boots faster than my gaming PC because the motherboard has very quick start. The motherboard I use for gaming is from 2021 and uses like 8 seconds more booting time no matter the boot speed of windows itself.
shitty case ... flimsy and low quality material that bends on a slight push.
I have an almost similar build. P4 HT 3.0 Ghz, Intel 865G, Audigy 2 ZS, GeForce 6200 AGP, Intel Desktop Board D865GBF, 2GB RAM (4x512 MB DDR 333mhz).
Yes thank you I’ve seen how a 2007 pc runs with a spinning disk it’s nice to see how it could have been if we had ssd back in the day
Wow, really powerful parts for even NOW. I can't believe it..
Mega bada boom overkill on the system memory amount. This will slow down performance in games. When it comes Pentium II, 128MB is all you really want. Geforce2/MX is probably a better option for this system since Geforce4 can be used in a higher end system such as 1.4GHz+.
2:38 ah yes, 8MB of ram. 😂
i have intel i740 but i cant find working driver
These were simpler times..... God I miss them
I'm surprised the GTX 750ti didn't make the list in any way, also I was sure the RX580 would make it as AMDs most popular card ever. The GTX 1060 on the top spot was also no surprise. I remember I wanted to get one as a teenager in late 2017 when they were on sale for as little as 230€, but when I had saved up the money they suddenly cost over 300€ due to Etherium miners. I waited for half a year for prices to come down and in the end I bought the 1070ti as I had the money after not spending it on an in my mind overpriced 1060 and it offered the performance of a 1080 at the price of a 1070.
I had this motherboard for one of my retro PCs. Sadly it failed around 2 years ago. Then I replaced it with a random Gigabyte P43 mobo and now the "luxury" variant of the P5Q, the Asus P5Q Deluxe with a second PCI-E x16 slot for crossfire, an on board on/off button, UEFI bios and a more beefy cooling solution. However for some reason Asus decided it was a good idea to run a big heat pipe from the CPU VRMs to the chip set and south bridge. It's chip set runs at 50 degrees C even in idle without a PC case, that is hotter than the overclocked Q6600 that lives in that PC. I love the Core 2 as it was my first computer that I can remember the specs off. I got handed down the old family PC in the early 2010's when I was 12. It had a Gigabyte 945P, a Core 2 Duo E6600, 2GB of DDR2 ram and a GeForce 8600GT. I used that computer until 2017 upgraded with 4GB of ram, a 120GB SSD and Windows 10 down the line. When I was 15 I wanted to upgrade that PC with a core 2 Quad, 8GB off DDR2 and a GTX 750ti, but my motherboard was so crappy it didn't support quad cores or 2GB DDR2 modules, so I build something entirely new.
you should test gta 4 at 2008
I think Intel could do very well in the graphics card market. They should focus on low end and mid-range segments for laptop, desktop, and professional use, and maybe improve on their marketing and relationships with AIB partners like ASRock, Acer, etc.
Still waiting on the B750
hopes for battlemage not having a dumpster fire problem with drivers on release!
My first 3d Graphic card is I740. I Loved it.
Most benchmark i saw a750 is almost as fast as rtx 3060 So this is very surprising because it doesn't reflect like 99% stuff i saw
What can I tell you, it's the results we got. Everything was set up correctly, including the newest drivers, and a clean OS install. You can see the potential in the 3DMark results, yet when it comes to games it underperformed. We were surprised as well. It all comes down to the set of games and driver versions. From what we gathered Forza Horizon 5 issues seem to be a regression. This was out of the box experience, and that's exactly our point here - How does the out of the box experience feel, can we actually recommend this card? And sadly, we cannot.
Weird i have arc a770 and it doesn't crash at all work pretty well
It out performs Rtx 3060 and rx6600 And av1 is cool Also was cheaper than Rtx 3060 12g When I bought it So if it had lower power consumption It would be perfect
@@matgaw123 I'm also arc A770 user.
yeah i agree on basically every point. Intel somehow does allways manage to be too late to the party and underwhelming, its always just singular highpoints that make them look good like the early core i series and alderlake. in between its crickets.
If going back all the way, why not address Intel Larrabee?
It was more about these two cards and their shared history, and how one led to another. If we could get our hands on a Larrabee prototype, that would be a whole different story...
The Intel cards look the best 👌
Ah yes, because that is the thing you should prioritize in your gpu… how it look from the outside
@H20GAMERZ look good feel good
it's "works WELL enough", not "fine enough". that doesn't exist
It's an old hardware UA-cam channel, not English grammar channel. While you are correct, it is besides the point... Enjoy the effort and quality of people who do this as a hobby...
I used to live in England. I've definitely heard folk say fine enough colloquially before
@@Miroslawkrynda6477 just because you heard someone misspeak doesn't make it correct, also beautifully illustrated by your improper use of "colloquially". improper grammar does not necessarily imply colloquialism.

ermm, what cooler you use on video? I need the name for my asus rampage iii mainboard socket
Unless the game specifically stated it had SLI performance optimization support you are not running SLI, you are running off one card and a dedicated PhysX card which is why you saw some smaller performance boosts on the non SLI titles, this is also why you got negative results with Crossfire, the 4870(ATI/AMD in general) did not have PhysX support. Tomb Raider has supported SLI and still does and thus amazing SLI/Crossfire results, everything else gained performance from the second card taking over the PhysX workload. Outside of Tomb Raider all you were honestly testing was DID a Dedicated PhysX card add performance, which did almost every case I can remember but mostly in smaller % and not worth the money you needed to invest to get the second card(Power supply upgrade, better Motherboard, second card itself, etc). Just a little clarification here.
You missed gta 4 !!
Awesome cards.
this is so cool mate! love your content!
Radeon 9800 doesnt have ddr2, You are wrong.
In 2003 my main system comprised of a tbred b xp1700 on Abit NF7-S 2.0 I think it was (11 x 200) with 2 x 512MB geil one w (bh5) pc4000 memory. Later had the memory in a DFI ultra d skt 939 @ 285MHz cl2.5. Hdd looked the same as in this video - 120GB maxtor diamond max 7.2k rpm. Only have had one p4 system in my life which was a 2.8c @ 3.5 on abit ic7-max 3. Back in the early to mid 2000’s I stuck with AMD mainly for the majority of rigs. Miss those days big style
I wonder how the Prescotts are called to be so hot when dual core Athlons can go from 95 to 125 watts. Is it that inefficient to produce more heat than the latter? Also does that apply to 775 Prescotts too?
Ryzen changed everything 😂
Always been interested in gaming PCs I couldn't afford from years ago
How can you say it's a high end AMD Gaming PC??? Where's the crossfire??? And the CPU??
Nice video, I suggest adding GTA 4 to the benchmark suite, its time appropriate and hard to run as well.
Would've nice to see if that 6800 LE has working pixel/vertex pipes which are unlockable via Rivatuner.
I'd give it a go trying to overclock the celeron e3300. First with the ram at 533 mhz increasing the fsb & setting the cpu voltage at 1.35v to have a baseline of how far you might be able to push it, then upgrade ram to a faster kit at 800 or maybe 1066 mhz if you happen to have any. And as a bit of a part 2 on this. Toss in 4 gb ram in total into the mix, like a friend that usually got among the latest and greatest every few years just upgraded too a DDR3 system with the freshly released socket 1155 I5 2500k. And gave his 2x2 gb kit of ddr2 too you as well as the core 2 quad Q9550 cpu. While another friend got his motherboard & HD 5850 while he just got a beastly HD 6970 with the new pc build.
High end builds seem to be less hassle and will play AAA titles for longer. (Why did i buy a budget build 3 years ago) 💀
when I was growing up we had a PC with a intel pentium . So when I build my first pc as an adult I only use AMD because that pentium was so slow lol
part 1 ??

Is that the 2016 re-release of Skyrim? If it is, then it would run a hell of a lot worse on that hardware than the original 2011 release. They ported the game over to the Creation Engine version used in Fallout 4 for the 2016 remaster.
Nope, the original Skyrim version. Legendary Edition to be exact, one with all the dlcs.
nice video brother keep it up
Back than, the new AMD Athlon II and Phenom II for socket AM2+ were better budget oriented option. I know, that this video was about Celeron from Intel, but it would be nice to do a comparison.
For sure, especially if you went for the athlon II x3 cpus, quadcore on a budget if your motherboard allowed you to ignore the cpu temperature sensor & go by the motherboard cpu socket temperature sensor instead. Or the cpu would be locked at 800 mhz as usually they were detected sitting idle at like 81 - 87celsius while motherboard cpu socket temperature sensor showed a more realistic mid 30's in temperature.
Can you show us msi afterburner while you show the game because I really want see what a cpu and gpu doing and power draw
That is a good idea. However we don't have an "equal" solution for Windows XP and older, so we can do it only for Windows 7 and newer.
You didn´t show "The legend" The unique : GTX 1080 Ti. Best than RTX 3060
This is a list of the most popular cards by number of units out there. The 1080ti was an 800 Dollar part at launch. Even when it later reached great value on the used market these high end parts tend to get little market share as few people can afford them when new and as a consequence there are just not as many of them out there.
What PSU is that
this is practically the exact same pc i have except i upgraded the gpu to a gtx 1070 and a *slightly* different mobo what the fuck
Can't wait to see the 5000 Series NVIDIA GPU benchmark in 20 years
That is definitely not mid-range. Almost high-end.
I had the 6800 Ultra back in its prime, for free actually and i didn't even knew what it was worth back then. Still bummed that card died back in 2010
