Tornado Wire 949-12 Titan Stretched Tight
Nice implement, how do you firm/foul/hold the wire so it won’t unroll when you are ready to pull it tight to fasten it?
Hi! Great video! Are you using standard sch 40 pipe on all components of this corner brace?
Your website doesn’t list the same wedge strainer that you are using. Where did you get them? Thanks
Do y'all ever work up in VA on peoples fences? I sure could use your help with my 44 acres here in Halifax...
Well done.!!! Good safety advice too, and a very strong cornerpost set-up! - Unlike what some other fencing contractors make which obviously don't have that "seriously strong design" that you create with the 4 inch diameter 10 ft long (4,5 ft or so in the ground?) and the cornerpost and 2.5 inch diameter brazing pipe welded to a 3 inch diameter gal pipe rammed 6 ft into the ground.!!! 🙄👍 No need to worry about termites or grass fires, or virtually anything else destroying that post and braze set-up.! I don't know how you can see to weld the pipes with all the toxic fumes and smoke coming from the welding-rods as well as the vaporized zinc coatings of the pipes.!?😵 PS. Your comment regarding auto-darkening helmets has been noted, so now I shall go back to the old "fixed tinted type of welding helmet" as I don't want to encourage glaucoma.!!! Regards from Niels.🙄
I think this video is really helpful, but I also found it a little confusing when it comes to marking and cutting the pipe...such as where exactly do you put the pipe clamp...it looks like it's placed to line-up at the bottom of the knee brace. Secondly, it appears you go to make second dot on the side of the pipe 1/2" outward, but you don't clearly show it...however you see the second dot when you go to cut the pipe. And when it comes to cutting the pipe, you don't say if you're cutting the top or the bottom first...however you can see the two dots on the side and know it's the top. And lastly, it would be nice if you showed doing this same thing but with an exposed stubby (above ground) where a person is welding it up just like the vertical post. I think it's great also that you point out to be smart and to have water and a fire extinguisher available! I'm sure once you do it, it's a no-brainer...but for us beginners, a little more detail would be helpful. Thanks again for this video...can't wait to try it!
!!!And the experts could say the same about you!!
Will that wire keep pigs from escaping
What is better fixed knot or hinge knot?
The fork bent down like three inches. And why would you pull the fence down that was neat though. Is it the ground or something
I was waiting for you to ride the fence down by stepping on it.
Is there some calculation or other means to determine how much to stretch it without overdoing? I’m sure you know what you’re doing, but I’m trying to learn to do my own.
Why is 9 gage wire wrong for bracing with? Is it because it's low-tensile, or "stretchier"? I would have thought that the thicker wire takes longer to rust, and can also hold more load when double wrapped. Thanks! Great video!
You young guys and your fancy post-driving machines make this old man envious. Only machine we had on the farm (for "planting" fence posts) was a 3-point mounted , PTO-driven post auger.
wonder if there is any stainless rods you could use so you dont have to spray over the weld
Question are you welding DC+ I can't seem to get the hang of stick welding thin galvanized pipe without blowing holes in it. Any tips? Great Video
Less amps, but also the ss 40 is not super thin.
Found out my problem. Most of my braces are too short. Sounds like I need 10' brace post. Thanks for the tips.
If it wasn't for galvanized tubing I wouldn't have bought my first welder. Been using the hot snot every since.
How do you connect the fence to the vertical posts? Do you allow he fence to slip at the connection points (like a loose staple in a wood fence)?
🏁👍
Where do you find the stretcher bars like that? I need one about 8 ft for deer fence.
Is that type of wire for cattle also?
Seems like a really relaxing task. No noises around you at all. 😌
But did it crunch the pipe?
Nope. Not a bit.
Thank you sir, for sharing this video! Very explanatory and detailed for the safe of everyone. I am going to build a couple of fences, And I needed some guidance from a professional. Furthermore, I would want to thank you for sharing your knowledge.
you bend that wire like its nothing, is that 12.5 g
nvm, the video answered my question.
Drink milk after welding galvanized metals right away! Respirator is a good idea!
Two problems with this tool. It buries the staple deep and hard plus when the glue on the staples is a little messy it makes the gun misfire and it’ll cut your wire every time. And that sucks.
The Stockade ST400i does not drive the staple home unless you have it improperly adjusted. We get 10's of thousands of shots before a full cleaning, and have excellent reliability. Sometimes it's the arrow, sometimes it's the Indian.
What is that tool called that you cut the pipe with?
Portable bandsaw.
B/S better out there.
The test patch…. Long distance posts… I know this is super old it but looks like that would work for alpaca, minus the hot wire on top. Have you had any clients try it? They don’t really challenge fence line so I’m thinking this spacing would be fine. How’s the fence holding up? Wish you were in Eastern Washington
I'd like to add that I misspoke with regard to markup and margin. There is a difference, and I apologize for being in a rush to get this video uploaded. The spirit of the exercise remains the same.
Thanks for talking about safety. Very important.
How do I know when it’s tight enough? What about up And down small hills?
Was the some type of math to get the same curve? looked like some formula
Yes. We use a 17' radius, which is about as tight as you want with Poplar boards. It works out to 7'-7" or so post spacing, which is perfect to allow you some wiggle room.
I swear I've watched this video at least five times! 😊 It has SO much useful information! I am making a deer fence so I can grow fruit trees without them getting devoured. In the video you mention that it's possible to use just the gripple tool to tension a shorter length of fence... How short exactly? My longest run is 80' and I'm wondering if I can skip investing in the strainers and board. Thank you very much!
I wouldn't ever presume to teach you anything but the Milwaukee M18 portable is hard to beat.
Assuming that you are talking about the bandsaw, yes, they are pretty awesome.
@@farmfencesolutionsllc stupid auto correct. I typed portaband. Amazing videos. Yall do a amazing job. Great to see craftsmen still alive and well.
It is always enjoyable to watch a craftsman work.
I would have tighten, then tied it down to a good post. Once you cut that fence, you will always have a weak spot there. I like your chain pullers though. I always pinch my fingers using come-a-longs.
So there are many ways to cut a fence or to stretch and tie one off. This particular method was to demonstrate a gut strain, which is a very common practice for us on extremely long runs, where multiple rolls of fence are joined together. With the use of a crimp sleeve, no strength is lost. With the use of figure 8 or Tex Brown knots, plenty of strength is retained. This use of Gripples was intended to be a tutorial for those who like or need them, such as a DIY farm/ranch project. We often stretch to an end, but not always. Thanks for watching!
Why not leave the brace pipe clear of the ground 6-8 inches, so you can weld right the way around and coat it with galvanising paint? I say this as a boilermaker and pressure welder for 40 years, and a farmer who likes great steel fences. Edit: and mate, you speak of safety, but no eye protection when cutting (most important things you own)?
Put some raw steel a foot underground and dig it up in 40 years and let me know how it did. The fact of it is, it's better protected underground, and stronger, than it would be above ground. A low speed bandsaw isn't exactly spitting fire. I'm no boilermaker, I'm a fencer. Hope all is well.
What wire cutters are you using?

Looks good - we are building a set of corrals on our place now.
Well im sure if everyone had access to that machine more people would brace that way. But this is reality
There are plenty of right ways to do the job, some of which do not require a post driver.
Excellent.
Best Advice - Don’t be an idiot. But wait - followed by DOn’t be a bonehead. Awesome!
That fence is tighter than dick's hatband! Have u ever had one pop!? Go fast, safety last! Cull out the weak! Only the strong survive!
On what your welding machin is running Generator or grid supply
We use either a generator welder or hydraulic drive welder off of one of our EVO machines.
That's a nice job. Like your vids a whole lot better than sr. Hard work, low key, gets the job done.
Nice work....
Yeah, your eye and ear protection will help when your head is 3 feet in the ground after slipping off of those forks. Have to say I have never seen net wire stretched up that high. Stay safe out there. Or at least go home not hurting.
