Lookout: Stands watch as a lookout or helmsman under the supervision of an officer
Mooring: Assists with mooring and unmooring operations
Safety: Ensures compliance with safety procedures
The role of an OS is an apprenticeship to become an able seaman. To become an able seaman, an OS must work on a ship for a specific amount of time to gain "sea time".
