We’re an aviation centric family of four. We originally lived in Indiana, but have since moved to the SF Bay area. We fly a Vans RV-10, and previously also had an RV-8.
We’re currently documenting our air adventures as well as the build of our third airplane, a Van’s RV-12.

I have a request another camera on wing or undercarriage showing the outside scenery.
For whatever reason, the outside camera didn't capture any footage on this flight.
Los niños ya no dejan de ver el móvil ni siquiera en un evento tan importante como viajar en el avión privado de la familia
WOW, two generations in one cockpit. So lovely video. Love everything in this footage: music, 360 camera work, communication. My big LIKE and Sub. Waiting another one
An evening flight like that is best topped off with a Double-double! 🍔
Miss you both lots ❤️
Most enjoyable flight. I envy you flying with your son. Thank you
Do you have the D4A5 engine?? If so, is the part number for fuel pump LW-15473? Thanks!! I’m needing to replace mine.
Correct on both accounts. We got our replacement unit from Mcfarlane.
The Olympics are in my backyard. You picked the right time to tour.
Fighter!
Sure felt like it! It was fun to do it for the last time sadly 😢
have you sold/swapped it?
@@apivovarov2 We sold it just before moving to the Bay Area to some guys that flew it out to the LA area. My dad was able to track them on Flight Radar and since he never IFR certified it it was always below the clouds. The guy that bought it couldn't fly it since it needed a tail wheel endorsement (I think). But overall it was a fun plane for about 10ish years.
We are building a RV-12 which is sort of the replacement but more of a trainer airplane.
I'm from Alameda, which is also in the Bay Area. My flying experience comes from using the X-Plane simulator. I'm interested in getting involved in building airplanes. If you need a pair of skilled hands, I'd be happy to help.
Nice flying! And it’s a remarkable coincidence the San Carlos airport is SQL given its proximity to Oracle HQ
esp since when you takeoff on runway 30 to the north, you immediately fly overhead the headquarters!
"Wanna slow down?" "Yep, working on it." If I had a nickel...
Right seats pilots are the worst. 🤣
@@hotshotaero The worse-case scenario is always two captains on the same flight deck. 😁. My approach was never to be the captain because the PIC is always last responsible. 😉

You two rock! What was the issue?
A little precautionary inspection before our long cross country - found a hose clamp rubbing against the cowling and needed to rotate it before it wore away a hole. We were visiting family away from home base. Gotta go with what you have!

Runways 01L/01R. Always a fun time!
These are just CRAZY
He called mom out on being to high,
Sorry this happened... High octane fuel vapor + battery drill that sparks at the brushes = Disaster. I also noted you did not ground the plane and the tank either. Static electricity is real. Plus you can hardly see it. Your clothes can be lethal for static electricity charge. I always wear a wrist strap and ground to the tank.
Thanks for the series.
Hi. I plan (hope) to order a kit next year. It looks like you didn't prime. I do not want to prime either but am wondering, did you need to prime anywhere? IE matting surfaces, etc. Thank you
We primed the first plane we built (RV-8). Didn't prime this one. I largely think it's unnecessary. You still do need to prime a few places, Vans' specifies in their instructions. Won't take much effort to do those small spots though.
Fly Safe, coming to AirVenture this year?
This video is from September of 2023. But we would love to come to AirVenture or Sun and Fun.
Fly safe, have a good trip!
Fun! Tks for upload
Great job! Pretty plane.
Nice video! How did you attach the 360 camera?
Enjoyed your upload & family passion for aviation passion. Enjoyed flying the RG-182 flying the cascades in Oregon. Happy Landings!
Ahahah
Great video! Keep em comin!
Thanks! Will do!
Best short ever. I heard you guys talking about how the tower called us a Cirrus, and or a Cessna.
I'm an airline engineer/inspector, I would say that's a major mistake right there. That guy who made that installation should be suspended or fired. Light aircrafts don't have back-up systems like large airplanes. Well done with the troubleshooting. You have my like/sub.
Beautiful evening to fly and a wonderful airport.
How did you fix this leak?

So you are of the opinion that ideal landing is half flaps? Just curious about your thoughts there. Thanks!
We usually end somewhere around 1/2 to 3/4 flaps. I don't find a huge difference with more flaps, and it takes a really long time to retract if you go around.
Could you guys share RPM/power settings and target airspeeds, flap settings, from the downwind leg, base, short final, flare, and touch down? While there are tons of RV10 content, there is not much out there on the specifics of flying them. This would really be helpful for us aspiring RV10 pilots! Love the channel!
I really try to get to a stable 95 knots in the downwind, which is where you want to start deploying flaps. I put in a small amount which really helps get the plane slowed down. Once you get down to below 90 (technically, 87 knots), continue deploying flaps and continue slowing down and getting into your base turn. I try and target 80 knots on base, and between 72 and 75 on mid to short final (depending on how loaded we are). Keep the nose pointed down down down down down until the flare. With full flaps, the nose points downward naturally, almost concerningly so. There is a desire to want to round out and level the plane off as you descend, but don't do that - you end up just flaring a hundred feet off the ground. Keep the nose pointed down, and round out close to the ground. Takes a bit of practice to really nail the sight picture. Not sure the power settings on those, I stop paying attention and just look out the window. But I suspect that it's pretty minimal - maybe 10 inches of mercury while in downwind to base, and then slight adjustments as needed up or down? I definitely carry a small amount of power into the flare, and then pull it out slowly while rounding out.
@@hotshotaero Thanks so much! This really helps!
Reminds me of flying through all the Canadian wild fire smoke last summer on the East coast
Overcast and rain eclipsed the eclipse up here in the Pacific Northwest. Marking my calendar for 2044...
As always very cool 😎
Great videos, helpful as Im getting going on my first condition inspection on my 10. I like the hole insert for the two bar on the nose wheel, any chance you recall what it is or where you got it?
Got them here: flyboyaccessories.com/products/tug-guards-for-nosewheel-rvs-pair
Your video sent the cat under the chair. 🐈
Good flying though thanks
Are y’all mad at each other? Mighty quiet in here
heh, nah. It's some older footage while we were still figuring out the camera and audio setup.
Love it!
Side step to the right and you can see the runway
love the paint on your plane!
Thanks a lot! The design was done by Conradd Kothman Maverick Aircraft Design and it was painted by Ken Kaminski's team at Flying Colors in Benton Harbor, MI.
If there is a club nearby he can fly gliders a year earlier than powered planes and teaches good stick and rudder skills. Talk to an IA to log his time building towards an A&P rating. Can he be the primary building and get the repairman cert for the plane? Will be great for him to take to college.
Yeah, we are keeping a log of all of his time for future cert purposes!
There are granddads. And there are cool granddads. ;-)
This also just to let you know was my parents flight instructor. A good friend of ours who is 80 and doing great!
No rudder pedals in the backseat of an RV8?
Not by default. Van's makes some you can add in, but they don't work very well in my opinion, and I would certainly not want to use them for any type of landing.
Great video and info :)
