I’ve never used an a30 so take this with a grain of salt…maybe it’s a next level advance, I don’t know. But it would need to be a major leap to best the a20 at $1300+ after tax…even in my little, noisy, insane RV-12 travels, the a20 has never once done me wrong, it’s comfortable and quiet. While this all sounds cool, it inspires more of a “don’t fix what ain’t broken” sentiment in me. I know that companies need new products in order to keep sales up but eh…

Just buy a Bose QuietComfort and buy the AV mic set sol on line. A30 is a rip off, they just chard more for everything AV automatically regardless of cost.

More of an advertisement than a review.

Used a20’s for 13 years. Changed all the parts three times due to regular wear and tear. 8000 hours airline flying. On average 12 hours per day 6 days per week. Works like a charm. As someone mentioned weight reduction could be good and rust proof metal as it oxidises and erodes slowly. Nothing lasts forever. USB could be good but most airliners have plenty of plugs in the flight deck. Happy flying folks.

A30 is actually a downgrade. I will send mine back. A20s are actually superior

I’m really unhappy with my “upgrade” from a20-30. First and foremost, the audio sound is disgusting. My own voice is like talking into an echo chamber, it’s really off putting. Not only does it sound echoey, I can also barely hear myself making it harder to talk naturally. The tap to turn off noise cancellation is a total joke. Bumping it on anything, like a visor cuts out an ear cup and your left with one ear on and the other off. Even landing the Ejet and placing the nose wheel down somewhat gently will be enough of a bump to trigger the ANC drop out. (You can turn it on and off via a switch under the batteries). I am also getting head pressure headaches from the dense foam pads on top, much worse then the a20’s. Granted my head is relatively big. The smooth feel plastic material is much less durable then the a20’s, shows every scratch and for $2000 AUD you would think they could braid the cable since EVERY a20 before it has the cable start to deteriorate around the 4 year mark. The downcable on the a30 is even thinner and after one single use already shows signs on stress. The ear cups are still synthetic and going to fail like all Bose ear cups. You can buy lamb’s leather replacement ear cups off Amazon. Why the hell can’t the TOP model BOSE be supplied with real leather - or a material that doesn’t flake!!!!!!! The audio controller comes with a silicon band to help “hang” the controller. The silicon goes OVER the Bluetooth volume buttons. Piss poor effort for the most expensive headset on the market. It’s like an after thought!! Im keen to know if anyone else is experiencing audio like they are talking into a tin can/ echo. (5 pin XLR, embraer 190 tested only). The hot swappable L and R mic position is nice. And I can ONLY HOPE they have improved the mic wiring so that it’s not a cable twisting every time you swivel the mic up and down as it was on the a20 but I have my doubts. (The UFlyMike as an example - has a microphone connection that facilitates endless 360 degree loops, you can pop it off and replace it in <30 seconds if you needed….the Bose mic has a cable twisting at the hinge point that breaks due to fatigue - exactly what happened to me about to depart Melbourne). And the case. Another joke. A couple of pockets and maybe just a slight hard shell would be nice protection for such an expensive headset. This product is in desperate need of competition. I actually see myself selling these if bose can’t provide answers on the echoey sound problem. Very very disappointing.

Built by Bose Consumer Electronics Division? Are they made in China now? I was able to get hands on with one recently, and I'm not seeing what the hype is about. I'll stick to my David Clark One-X.

What do you think is it worth to buy a20 with a discount which is 1180 eur or new a30 which is 1380 eur ?

I actually feel like this is a downgrade. Never had any feeling of discomfort with my A20 for 9 years, so I'll stick with those...

The new A-30 looks like a bad Chinese copy of the A20.

Is the ANR better in High than the A20? thats what i really care about. Anything to protect my ears =P

As someone that currently uses the a10's it makes sense to upgrade but I'd be lying if I said this doesn't feel like the laziest "upgrade" I've ever seen. Seeing what Lightspeed did with the delta zulu's man Bose really missed the mark on this one. Not even a braided cable

Not so sure a thinner cord is a feature/benefit. Seems like something a not-so-on-the-level company might do as a planned replacement piece after warranty expires.

I think you need to fix your audio. Had to crank it up to hear, then got blasted by the music. Like others I dont really see an improvement. passive noise reduction has always sucked on the A-20 and I doubt anything was done here. Moving the mic boom is not a feature I'm concerned with, but would be concerned with it coming unplugged. I am not a fan of the volume adjustment rollers but maybe its just me. You cant see where the volume actually is. This was a lateral move at best.

The ability to plug it into a usb for power is an overlooked feature so far

13 years and all they could come up with was 6 gramm less weight? The new Lightspeed Delta Zulu comes with a carbon monoxide sensor, built-in audio equalization system, an app that allows recording/playback and a lot more. What a disappointment 😢

I agree with most comments of daily users of the A20: what is the 'transforming' upgrade they were talking about for 2 weeks? They even themselves confirm that the noise cancellation tech is the same and the ear cushions are also the same as the A20, so... it has the same sound / A&PNC quality! So why on earth would you then still spend +1300€ for a tap option, ANC reduction option and a longer cable? I have my A20 since 11 years and never ever have I had the feeling that once the headset A20 was feeling heavy, even after a 12+ hours duty...

I would like to test this new one, it looks very "low consumer" quality. I bought the A20 7 years ago and still working like the first day.

This is a major disappointment. As long as the A20s have been out and this is all they could come up with? Also, PLEASE fix the intro and out to music in this video, it’s entirely too loud compared to the presentation audio.
