Safe cycle routes to school in Fenland: Donate NOW via the Big Give
In rural Fenland, access to higher education is half what it is in urban Cambridge. Local families have identified transport as a key barrier and have formed a campaign for a new cycle route from the village of Guyhirn to the schools and railway station in March. This would help young people attend after school activities and increase access to further and higher education institutions in Cambridge and Peterborough.
Camcycle has been supporting the Fenland Parent Power group with their campaign, sharing our strategic and technical expertise and amplifying their voice with local politicians and the media. They've achieved extraordinary progress for a rural route of this type - funding is often focused on higher population areas - and have gained the support of the Mayor, Dr Nik Johnson and Cambridgeshire County Council. The council is currently working on a feasibility study (for which Camcycle has also provided advice) and plans to hold a public consultation on the route later this year.
Please help us continue to support Fenland Parent Power so that a safe, all-year round cycle route can be delivered for their children. We're fundraising to help groups like this now via The Big Give Green Match Fund. Donate today and DOUBLE your donation, helping improve access to opportunity for young people across Cambridgeshire.

Looks good! I thought I was looking at the Netherlands for a second ;-)
no emissions "at the source" those human riders have a carbon foot print just in the extra calories theyll need cycling every day and if those are ebike those too will have emissions from where there power comes from which unless your gathering sunlight or wind yourself purchasing "green energy" does not count because that is never guaranteed
Hi how can I contact Clare rogers ?
Hi, we recommend contacting the campaigns team at London Cycling Campaign who can put you in touch: campaign@lcc.org.uk
Love these, huge improvement over waiting for at lights.
Change will always make people angry.
According history the Dutch Queen Wilhemina bought her first bike in 1894, however the Dutch government in those days actually banned her from using it in public. In 1933 that ban was lifted and the first photo was published later that year, that was a outing in Katwijk, you can find photographs of her riding. All subsequent Queens rode their bikes on a regular basis, not as gimmick but actually getting somewhere.
My mountain bike has 2 numbers under the bottom bracket

Awsom you have found thr key to a great life
Great review thank you! I’m about to purchase a second hand one of these but one of my children will need a bike seat added..I can’t seem to find out if it has to be a bicicapace branded seat or not…I don’t live near any stores that sell them..
Great video! Bicycles ARE the future because - let's face it - car infrastructure really isn't working is it? Just look at the massive traffic jams in every town and city up and down the country every "rush hour" if you need any further proof. I have cycled in Cambridge and it is so easy and so well planned, it is an absolute pleasure to ride there. Unfortunately I live in Norwich which is probably the least cycle-friendly city in the country. Here they still think that painting a picture of a bicycle on an existing footpath somehow makes it a bike-lane - except it doesn't .
Right outside the hospital, directly in the way of emergency ambulances.

Trust anti-car Cambridge CC to install this nonsense at what was probably at great expense.
I suggest you come to Holland to see for yourself.
256 people on bikes (plus up to 3 in kiddie-trailers I couldn't see into)
thia has got to be the dumbest idea for uk roads i have ever seen.... cyclists ride around with no care or attention to anything, red lights or zebra crossings and now we give them a freeway at speed around the outside of roundabouts... there is going to be sooo many accidents and dead people because of this... simply because cyclists will just go with no care or attention at all... how many kids have to die before u lose this stupid idea??????
Wow so cool ,where is it about ?
Great idea but badly implemented. There is no room for cars to stop safety without getting in the way, as the video clearly shows with the taxi. As a biker, I do not ride on the roads anymore. It's unsafe, and most cycle lanes are badly implemented. One road by me has had cycle lanes implemented but without widening the road, so there is no room for cars to pass without going into the cycle lane, not alone lorries that use the road too. 🫣
Zebra crossings on the exit of a roundabout? This is ok? 🤔
There should be right of way for vehicles exiting the roundabout. Queing of cars within a round about is a traffic delemma that should not be induced by the infrastructure.
I know a few places where this would be a good idea.
That looks lethal, I think if I was to be cycling there I'd use it like a proper roundabout
I don't drive, but for me this has always been a bit of a dumb layout, as it would back exiting traffic up on the roundabout itself. The crossing should be further down the road to allow for more waiting cars. It's common sense really
Councils seem to be obsessed with stopping dirt bikes along paths everywhere. Barriers are a ridiculous overreaction to a nonexistent problem.
Are these available in Peterborough?
They ae already bricking up the so called temp traffic control points such as Nightingale ave and carlise rd etc to make them no go for cars on a permanant basis then we have to consider the thieving traps set up near to cambridge railway station bridge street etc to fleece the very people who pay tax to be on the road so much for the GCP comitment to consultation If these idiots want no traffic in Cambridge its simple ban all cars knock down the car parks build thousands of council homes for the workers required to service the uni and buisness on those sites instead of student rooms as will be happening in park street so that the workers requiried to sevice the city and the uni do not have to travel to work in cars from outside of the city to attend work in the city centre and create a public transport system in cambridge fit for purpose for those living on its fringes. Its very apparent that the rich under GCP WILL STILL JUMP IN THERE TOP OF THE RANGE CARS AND PAY THE FIVER A DAY Whilst those on min wage will be forced of the road in Cambridge
I need one under £4000 covered for the rain in Scotland.
Or a compromise could be to get a good bike poncho which will keep you dry without getting sweaty and something like Bar Mits for the handlebars to keep your hands warm in cold weather.
Honestly two pylons could have easily done that job instead of that right angled fence.
Yes, our preference would definitely be for bollards at this location. Even one would probably be enough.
Late to the party, but I see from a quick look at Crash Map that casualties here do not seem to have gone down, and they nearly all seem to be people on bikes. And - question - why does a 4x4 come to a halt right across the zebra at 22s? I'd say the 20mph signs are far too close (HWC stopping distance close) and it needs a speed table sharp level change at 30m to wake up dozy drivers in time to stop so they don't autopilot through. Good concept, but I think they have been too timid about slowing down cars given the ruler straight road approaches, and imo it needs some revision.

If only we had this in the U.S., greetings from New Mexico!
This must be the worst idea in town management anyone has ever come up with. Congrats on killing Cambridge, neighbouring towns will thank you for sending all the business their way.
I do worry that it will push a lot of car trips to the weekends, and create congestion on those already busy days. I think a workplace parking levy seems like a good idea, regardless of whether this proposal goes forward!
YYo, breathtaking !Camcycle, 🖖
Centre Parcs accommodation ranges from £359 depending on the season so ‘people spending thousands of pounds’ is a misleading statement. It is a great environment but it’s in miniature, you can’t replicate this across the size of a small city
Good vid
I know it is a dutch-style roundabout, but there really is no need to fully dress up in orange to use it. 😉
You can tell it’s not in the Netherlands look at the state of it😡
they should actually build more of these around the uk, its actually quite common around the eu and some drivers as a non cyclist just simply don't understand the fear and unsafe feeling of the cyclist when cycling into an ordinary roundabout, this can literally save lives, and i have personal experiences of near crash moments in a roundabout by those selfish and impatient drivers.
Great vid. thou my view/reaction is late. The very first image puzzled me a bit, is this UK or NL. Must be Uk viewing cars on right not left. Yes, there are other clues as well. Cyclists go clockwise, cars go counter-clockwise. No wait, what ? This is interesting regarding safety. In my town there is a horrible roundabout, a - for cars : pedestrians and cyclists come from every direction, i counted 7 sources, that is not okay. b - for cyclists : for them it is only a semi-roundabout, so bi-directional, sharp corners, ugh, not okay. @ 0:22 the black car stopping on pedestrian crossing is bad. @ 0:25 the white car not giving way to tandem is a big NO. @ 0:40ish , again cars not giving way, oi! I see the same tandem, are they part of the script/test ? @ 1:20 bicycle has to stop for car leaving roundabout. ouch. @ 1:28 Ma'am with bicycle, please dont stop on the roundabout, if you have to, get off the bicycle lane. @ 1:32 lady in orange (haha) doing full circle, checks traffic right shoulder, when leaving indicating to left. Yeah, in NL you see all sorts communication, takes some time for everyone to be comfortable. Why all the helmets? Bit of a false sense of security. Sure, when hitting the pavement you wish had a helmet. When hit by car helmet or no helmet wont make a difference. Curious about the current situation. Time for a updated video ?
I'm like why is the truck going left on the roundabout like in those funny compilations and then it hit me
Motorist have no idea how to use a standard roundabout, no hope with this one
they shall learn
Nu nog wat haaientanden plaatsen.
Those automobile drivers totally wanted to run over the cyclists. Drivers (including those in Prius's , otherwise intelligent looking women, all shades of skin color) have increasingly lost impulse control when they are supposed to let the person walk across the street in the USA; when someone is walking or biking it means there is parking for that very driver, so give us three seconds to cross the street; not to mention the driver themselves are a biped that deserves to walk safely when on their own two feet.
I am convinced that within ten years or so, the rest of the developed world will start to copy our policies and infrastructure for two simple reasons, CO2 emission reduction and skyrocketing fuel prices. They will make it simply impossible for the average person to own his own motor vehicle. And again the Netherlands will lead the world. Literally. Just like we did during the Golden Age.
57:40 Reaction of local business owners to car restrictions; 59:10 "Cities that want to have a strong local economy should invest in the experience of being in the city, to walk around, to look at the people, the buildings, etc"; 1:00:45 "The shops which were 20, 30, 40 years old whose business historically had been based around customers arriving by car, principally, found it the most difficult, but these were the ones often that were transformed by new entrants" (paraphrase)
55:53 Two-Month Living-Street Project - where the residents can design their own, car-free street, but they only have their scheme for two-months - to placate the opponents, who think "oh, 2 months, well, it won't be that terrible"... 😀
