HI ppl this me
James A. Emanuel was my great uncle. He was married to my grandmother's youngest sister Mattie Etha Johnson Emanuel. I had great admiration and respect for uncle Jim. His son my cousin who the family reffered to as little Jimmie finished high school at age 15 with afull academic scholarship to Brown University Jimmy was 2 years older than me and was like an older brother.
Al Jolson brought 300 tickets every Wednesday night.
You were there?
Very nice!!! Great job!!!
Professor Walker, a 'Thanks' long over due, but..... Thank You!!!!! For both your taking the time to research and to so thoroughly present this and, as well, for especially your honoring here '' The Negro Ensemble Company'' [or, The NEC]! ~ Soviegner
I can’t wait to share this with my students this fall. Thank you for sharing.
You are so welcome!

Beautiful You! It is a Shame that our people do not care about our History as Free People,, and prefer to Wallow in Helplessness. Sista, look for information on the Garifuna/Garinagu of Central America,. The Members of The African Groove Theater Troupe was mentioned in the Declaration of Independence of Guatemala in 1821! The Theater House's main problem stemmed from the Conflicting Personality of Willard Brown, and William Henry Brown's Explosive Temper, he was said to have killed many Hecklers in just 3 yrs. The Theater House was Burned down by members of the Black Freeman League., William Henry Brown Claimed to be THE PRINCE OF SENECA!
The Main Theme song for the Play; "THE DRAMA OF KING CHATUYE" is still sung and Played and Danced to Today; It says; " Yurumei-yebu- Neguebuga Wagueira-Bei, (St. Vincent was supposed to be our Land) -Bugarügü Jamutiwa Jarutiña Ñeinguie, ( drove us- the Europeans from there) - Liguia Wayabibei- Faya- Faya- Jañadügü Anagüguleigu (So we came sailing and Floating across the great Depths) Aluwajeina Garinagu Waledi ( Searching for CARIBS LIKE US) "GARINAGU WALEDI- YURUMEI

Thank you for allowing me and others to participate in this special presentation honoring key women in our lives. It was short and sweet, compact and complete - which is quite a feat. :) Kudos to FJT and those involved. Melody Marion Bickhem
Hello. I enjoyed hearing this story about promoting artists of color in Evanston from Rose Cannon. However, I then took to internet to find more information about Cannon Fine Arts Gallery and was not able to find anything! Is there a website, brick and mortar or online gallery featuring the artists mentioned in this Art Encounter presentation? I hope you will update this piece with access information. My sisters and I enjoyed going to Michael Phillips' art gallery in Evanston before his untimely passing. Thank you. Melody Marion Bickhem
Amazing! Keep on shining!
I love "put the neighbor back in the hood".
This was beautiful! Thank you Liana for sharing your words.

Love the honoring of the elders. Respect is due to our elders!
You are so right!
Thank you very much for the analysis of this poem. I had chosen it for a favourite of mine just before watching this video. As you can see, I have a connection with Angelina. I wish I had met her.
You're welcome! We're so glad you enjoyed Kara's analysis!
