In 2020 I inherited my grandfather's stamp collection he had been working on for 60 years. This is my journey of understanding his love for the hobby.

Grandpa's Stamp Album - Cover to Cover

His 1935 album he worked on until his death in 1997. A cherished item, but time to strip it and get those stamps into acid-free stock books and albums.
A New Egypt Stamp Collection - 77 Pages of Beautiful Designs & History
Переглядів 4,2 тис.3 роки тому
Picked up a 2nd Egyptian stamp collection at our local show here in Central Oregon. Egypt was the first country I purchased a collection of, and fell in love the Nefertiti bust designs. This video is short preview of what I found, and will be followed by more in depth vids of Egyptian stamp history.

A wonderful neighbor of mine donated the remains of her husband's collection. And we discover that he unfortunately was not a great archivist, but appreciate his love of stamp collecting nonetheless.

Nice Argentina¡
Nice one.
Good to see the local tv coverage. Would visit the show but they are all the usual suspects I see at the Portland stamp scene.
Thank you for the great video about the stamp show. It feels as if one was there. It seemed like everybody had an excellent day. I think the light box and taking photos of stamps with their electronic devices is a very good idea to get the children involved.
Thanks for video
Also nice music perfect for this slideshow
One thing i was told was to check backs of the stamps that were counterfeited regularly for initials of people who verified the stamp and to also check that
Smart!
Good presentation. I live in Portland and have spent the last few years on Switzerland after my dad gave me his album from when he was a kid born and raised in Schwyz. His album stopped at 1945.
You have some great stamps. I have to agree the Greenland one is really interesting and it would be an interesting area of the world to collect. I think the lightbox will serve you well. Besides supporting your photography hobby, if you have a valuable collection it is good to photography it for insurance purposes. I would encourage you to use your tongs 100% of the time. It helps preserve your investment of time and money.
I only collect mint/unused stamps and have been fortunate to find a fair amount of Italy. I have to agree with you on the centering. Early Italian stamps have some of the worst centering of any other country that I have seen and the PO Abroad are worse than the original stamps. The stamps that I am having problems finding are the Italy at Work (I only have 5 of the First Series and 1 of the Second Series ) and Parcel Post stamps. The Parcel Post stamps I have been buying one by one and I think that I will still be buying them on my dying day. If you have any mint/unused duplicates of the Italy at Work or Parcel Post that you are willing to sell I can send you a list. Thanks much for the videos!
I have watched Parts 1 and 2 so far and what a great presentation. Very informative. Italy is one of my newer countries to start collecting so there is a lot that I have learned from you. Thanks
Excellent!
Another great presentation; I enjoy his Italian history on stamps. He is a little too good as it makes me want to add Italy to my collecting interests😉
He's my neighbor, and the one that got me into collecting. Very intelligent and great at noticing minute details on stamps
@@GrampsStamps yes, I always enjoy his work. Great stuff. And now to part 2…
I’m really enjoying this series on ltalian stamps been collecting them about a year now. Many thanks cheers from Australia Roberto 👍
Interesting presentation, thanks for sharing.
awesome execution loved it thanx pal.
Hello! Hope all is well on the channel! Was there any British Commonwealth in those albums? (Or Spain?)
I do believe there was Britain in nearly every album. Very common items, but allows a collector to pick and choose the best of each for their collection.
@@GrampsStamps Nice!
Nice to see the post. I really enjoy the stamp club presentations you post.
Brian - great talk. You made reference to there being 24 cantons. Are you familiar with the "half" cantons? Basel (Stadt and Land); Appenzell (Ausser-Rhoden and Inner-Rhoden); and Unterwalden ( Nidwalden and Obwalden). So 23 + 3 cantons split in half = 26. Alternatively, 23 + 3x2 = 29. So, lots of possibilities.
very nice execution, love the pics, thanks Butch.
GREAT collection. You'll be busy getting the hinges of the used stamps by soaking...and the mint ones by just removing them.
nice work I like your delivery. by now you've been doing stamps for about 2 and a half yrs. hope to see more of your work, Thanks.
Thank you so much!
Superb! Very cool!I love it!
Thank you! Cheers!
Thank you for the best channel on UA-cam. I look forward to your next video!
Thanks for watching!
Instead of soaking mint stamps that are stuck together, consider a steam box. It does less damage to the gum. (the tattered pages could easily be soaked) I think hard-core collectors still consider mint stamps to have "disturbed gum" of they've been steamed but nothing I saw would be considered "valuable" but it is so good to hear someone say they're in it NOT for the value. They're beautiful, interesting little pieces of history. Can't wait to see more videos. If you have any, do a video about complete envelopes or covers. Cancellations contain all sorts of information.
Love the steam box idea. Does it cause them to curl at all?
@Gramps' Stamps as they dry they do tend to curl. Putting wax paper and a weight over them seems to work.
This is an exciting album to go through and work on. Your grandfather was very serious at collecting and most likely saved some very good stamps. The Cape of Good Hope triangles are very desirable, and I am sure that other countries like Canada, Great Britain, Iceland and many other areas contain good stamps. Incidentally,Orange River Colony is part of South Africa and Straits Settlements is now Malaysia. An older Scott Catalog used as a reference guide would give you a lot of knowledge about these stamps. I say older, because the up to date Scott Catalogs are very pricey. You can have a lot of enjoyment with that album and your knowledgeable friend can help you quite a bit. Don’t be intimidated by the number of stamps, but take one area at a time as you are able to, and your efforts will be much rewarded. Now is a very good time to learn learn what stamp collecting tools are available to help you with this.
I appreciate the feedback!
Very informative video sharing 👍🏻 Happy Holidays 🎄🎈 Stay connected 👍🏻🎄
Stamp super .Camera shit
I've got the exact same album that purchased in a stamp lot. It's a good album, pretty thorough for its size.
Japan stamps can be worth a lot of money if this there Japan islands in 1946 after the war
Not worth a fortune , but a fab 1930's collection nonetheless. Cheers form Ozstralia!!
The "Grandpa's album" is really nice. I have bought a few albums full of stamps. I never take stamps out, or put stamps in them. I preserve an album "as is". Right now I am going through a 3 1/2 inch thick Harris album full of stamps. The guy must have spent many hundreds of hours just putting stamps on pages. I love this Harris album full of stamps, and will keep it "as is" unmolestedly.
Great presentation! Very informative. It was great learning more about these beautiful stamps and history as I’m not overly familiar with Italian stamps. Except (of course as a Switzerland collector) the Campione D’Italia stamps 😁
Glad you enjoyed it!
Love the Greenland stamp as well. Very nice.
Thanks so much!
This is excellent, thanks for posting. It's the history of the stamps and countries that fascinates me with philately. I'd love to see more presentations like this. Now I want to collect Italian stamps!
This is cool! I was in. Terrebonne this last summer on a road trip visiting family. I never knew about this stamp club!
You're always welcome to drop in!
@@GrampsStamps Thanks!
Looks like fun😉. Love the kids’ corner.
That's a great collection, I saw so many British Commonwealth stamps featuring Edward VII and George V, great stamps to own.
Got my first pack from Philatelovely today. Was really impressed with the great variety, especially GB Commonwealth/Empire, an area I've just started collecting. Well worth the price of monthly subscription.
Nicely constructed and organized. Don't be intimidated by France and Italy. Early issues and 20th century are easy to find and not as overwhelming as building a full Russia collection!
I appreciate the feedback!
Beautiful stamps! I'd love to collect them but I have to resist.
I, too, love Egyptian stamps, especially those focusing on the heritage of ancient Egypt. One of my favorites is the 1926 three-stamp set for the International Navigation Congress. The detail of the multi-oared sailing ship is amazing. My all time favorite from anywhere, though, is another three-stamp set, this one for the International Congress of Ophthalmologists. With the Eye of Horus shown front and center, this set always makes me smile. I mean, what would be more appropriate for a stamp publicizing a meeting of eye doctors than one featuring the most recognized eyeball of all time?
Great comment. Thank you!
Nice
Oh wow! You paid just US$125 for that marvellous 77 page collection! That, for me, must be the bargain of the decade! Congratulations!
Awesome video! What a tribute to your grandfather to appreciate and preserve his collection.
the orange stamp you couldnt identify seems to be Ukrainian.
Wow, that's a beautiful collection and a beautiful album. It's a shame to transfer the stamps out, but I understand why. Thanks for showing it.
Another great video! I have to get those Western Wear stamps! They are gorgeous!
I hope you got some good stuff! Cool idea to stream Exploring Stamps videos (my favorite stamp channel!).
That is a gorgeous vintage stamp album with a nice Art Deco design on the cover. It looks like it was well preseved too! It has to be a collectible in itself. Nice colouful collection from Abyssinia/Ethiopia. Thank you for showing them!
As you said in the video, the diversity from Philatelovely is amazing! Nice of Philatelovely to include a few stamps from Ireland as you started your collecting with this country. The small sheet is beau-ti-ful! Is it a Christmas themed one?
I translated the title and it's "Merry Christmas" in German 😊
