hi love this video good luck with your channel from the uk
Really ? A whole video for this ? For something so- average ?
It’s usually the simple things that work the best 💪🏼
I got my blue in 2 weeks, my purple 10 months later, and my brown a year later. But I was a white belt for 8 years 😎😂
That’s the best! We had a guy at our gym and he was a 12 stripe blue belt. Hahaha
3 years to purple is fast. Definitely not how our academy does it. Our curriculum runs in like a 2 year cycle. Experience is a big part of purple. Purple with 3 years of experience isn’t that much experience. If they were an electrical apprentice they wouldn’t even be licensed till the 4 th year. I’m sure guy is good but it’s fast. Especially to purple.
How would you measure if someone is good enough to be a purple belt?
@ I’m would defer to my professor as I am not a black belt yet. However, I do believe the purple belt to be the first expert level belt though. Traveling around and visiting other academy’s I can say that there is a large skill gap in many purple belts (which I believe is more akin to blue belts.) I think we’re going through a similar thing now like Karate in the 70s. More people training and the training pool gets diluted more pressure for professors to promote quickly. Just because a blue belt can submit a purple every now and then doesn’t mean they are a purple. Skill should play a huge role but not the only consideration. There is no substitute for experience. No one should grow into a purple belt. They should already be the thing.
I agree, I am a white belt now, but I rather become a blue-belt with good technique without being a blue-belt then to get a blue-belt now and the shitty blue-belt. That would be will all colours that right?
If your love Jiu-jitsu say Hi in the comments!
breaking down the moves into parts you remember is literally the greatest piece of advice i learned. You gotta divide the steps into things that makes sense to you. Not your instructor. Love that he explained that. Everyone's armbar does the same thing. But everyone remembers it differently.
@HapyyTheCat I really like your breakdown of what he explained in the video. 😊 how long have you been training for ? 💪🏼
Do you think competitions are good for your progress?🏅
Yup
Who here loves Jiu-jitsu?
I did it in 2.
Have you done any competitions?
thats normal, 1 yrs white belt and 2 yrs blue belt...seems normal.
Not at a legit school. 3 years is very fast but also depends on how much you train. You could literally do 7 to 10 years of "average guy" training in 3 years. Most of the people who train bjj are recreational students. They have 40+ hour a week jobs...family...kids. They aren't training 6 days a week and doing doubles some days. So just really depends on the school and the person. Some school will advance super fast and those schools are usually terrrible...and some will advance crazy slow so the school can win a lot of tournaments and make the instructor seem very good. There really is no norm.
Some of those commercial gyms do they give belts depending on the amount of classes you have taken?
Do you do jiu-jitsu as well?
1 1/2 - 3 years is probably the average from white to blue. 3-5 Years at blue to purple is normal. so 5 - 8 years of consistent (like 4-5 classes a week) to purple would be good speed. And doing that without a major injury would be incredible. Shit takes major time. Pulling a purple in 3 years either means you are a banger at BJJ or you are in a McDojo. Based on the way this guy describes his experience. My guess is hes a Banger.
The way he looks at bjj is so efficient, and it just makes sense
The exchange is for work and skill value is something different
It depends on, what it is that you need, something you need has more value to you than something you don’t need. ☀️

My family is from the Netherlands and back in the 1400 we might have some roots in Germany

So profound and yet so down to earth. Australia is happy to take in inspiring people like you. Keep it up, mate.
I appreciate your kind comment, and I am grateful for Australia to have thought me these valuable lessons. I wish you the best mate ☀️🙏🏻
Great vid man!
Thank I appreciate it
I love my home country and I am very happy that you managed to achieve so much personal growth while here. All the best with future travels and personal development !! Despite the media, the world is a lovely place if you take the right attitude with you.
Yessss! That’s exactly right, the way we think about things, is the way we see things. I chose to think positively and to share my findings ☺️☀️
I am loving the content but please please please - word of advice, not so much ABBA style music clip changing head shots - its fresh once or twice, but I think you've gone camera angle berzerk and its like your not talking to your viewers , and I feel like I am on a ride that spins you round really fast 🤣🤢
This is great feedback, thank you so much. I appreciate your honesty 🙏🏻. Is there anything that I could add to make it a better watching experience?
@@TomvanderSandt not really, the content is great. The different backgrounds are nice. It was just the constant side shots and constant scene change was making it really busy and hard to focus on the content. At one point I was sure you would do one where all we see is the back of your head. 🤣
Hahahah how funny would that have been 😂. But I really appreciate that you have taken the time to write this. If you have any other feedback back on my other videos I would love to hear so 💪🏼🙏🏻☀️
❤
Oh it’s all about himself. - very boring.
Thank for your feedback, I wanted to share what I have learned. If you have more feedback let me know 🙏🏻
It's about his experience , you are the boar
Come on, that wasn't necessary. At least he's enjoying life. Hope you are too.
Btw is it hard to do the driving license there ?
I brought my license from the Netherlands. So I am not what it takes to get a license there. I got a translation of my Dutch license and that worked fine 🤙🏼. Let me know if you have any other questions?
@@TomvanderSandt I'm from Indonesia, how long does it last for the license? Can you use it for 3 years worth of working holiday visa ? Thanks
@@huanvincent6020I would suggest you look at how long you can have a working visa in Australia. You wouldn't be able to get one for 3 years.
One thing I learned …DO NOT LIVE THERE…
As someone who does live in Australia, I’m interested to hear why?
I really like the early morning and out going lifestyle, but I understand that’s not every one likes the same things☀️
Why and where are you from , is it better there
@@bradbriggs5347 I live in Beautiful Norwich city in the super county of Norfolk UK, the Philippines, I have been there and lived there on and off since 1987, my wife is a Pinay my son 33 is half Pinoy, none of them want to go back there, it is no coincidence that 85% of Filipinos want to leave their own country, I think that speaks volumes, it is only older desperate western men want to go there and we all know what for despite the BS they come out with, look at the crap weather there for a start with, then the non stop heat …need I go on, you think you know about the Philippines, you are just surviving there for the sake of a much younger girl, spare me the BS.
my thoughts immediately run to you must have had a bad experience. Aussies have low tolerance for superiority and also whinging and complaining. as an aussie most of my horrible life experiences have not been because of aussies but rather the 'new aussie' put in positions of power where they have no concept of the values of the aussie, fairness, justice and equity for all. while it can be distorted to appear in media that white aussies are not into it.. the reality is we are.its embedded in our psyche. as is the saying 'don't sh*te in your nest' and 'never bite the hand that feeds you'.
Love your attitude. Hope you make this your HOME!
Thank you so much, me and my girlfriend are really thinking about it

What are you talking about??????
You are amazing joining community groups . You are such a positive person who enjoyed Australia . Thank you so much !
Yess community’s have been a game changer for me ☀️🙏🏻
Wise insights from a young man - Australia benefits from the ideas and talents and energy of its immigrants - I hope you move here permanently, because I think you would make a great contribution to Australian society and you’d make a terrific Aussie.
These words hit the right spot, thank you that’s so kind. I would love to be a Aussie 🤙🏼🫶🏼
Another lesson to learn. You should have both hands on the steering wheel when you're driving the car.
Thank you, it’s true. I can be more careful 🙏🏻☀️
@@TomvanderSandt I hope that you are - at least when driving in my part of the world!
Don't know anyone who drives with both hands on the steering wheel sorry.
@@zalired8925 If they drive carelessly, there'd be very few still alive.
@@doubledee9675 How is driving with one hand careless? Unless you are already a useless driver. Teach us how to change gears with our feet please.
Thanks so much for your amazingly positive video and I can see the joy on your face as you describe the wonderful self-discoveries and the happiness that comes from living a simple life. I also read a lot of stoicism and having done a lot of self-development, I know that personal growth comes from a state of being uncomfortable.
Thank you, for taking the time to write this. That why I make my video, I want to share the journey, of finding out how to life live. To get people together who think alike and can help each other! 🤙🏼 That’s the reason for the Sandtman community, so welcome ☀️🙏🏻
I look forward to hear how your journey is going 💪🏼🙏🏻
I just discovered you and I think you are amazing!
Thank you for your kind words, welcome to the Sandtman community 🙏🏻☀️
Awesome to see someone loving the GC. Ive lived here all my life & think its pretty shit lol & wish i could leave.
I understand, sometime it’s hard to see what is in front of our eyes because we have become so used to it. When I got there I needed to get out of the big city fast, I wanted to be closer to the beach and the hills for hiking. That make living there really nice and beautiful 🤩☀️
I just did 3 months there, I decided to come back to the UK to continue my career but I think I want to eventually go back and live there full time. I'd just need to get my career in a position where that is possible. What did you do for work over there?
That’s a great idea, I think it’s a great place to make your home base. I did work in hospitality and I help my friend out on his farm! 🌞
I hope your able to return to Aus
