Google Maps only works for public transit directions, also I use Baidu Maps which walking directions work in South Korea, and even offers public transit and driving directions.
baidu is a Chinese company btw, and my native language is Chinese

Probably a lot of the other destinations are cheaper (like South Asia and Southeast Asia). But just to point out that 1000 NZD is about 558 EUR / 609 USD / 95000 JPY / 840000 KRW. So, 7000 NZD isn’t a *crazy* amount of money to spend in three weeks in either Japan or Korea, especially with accommodation, maybe travel between cities, some experiences and they might also be including flights from their last location and/or to their next destination.
I'm from India, even i haven't visited korea, but I'll still say that i want to bring the safety, skincare and noraebang of korea here. I hope i get a chance to visit there soon!
