In your sermon, you kinda "set up the stage" of how Israel was at the time of the judges. I think you said "it was a time of rebellion, anarchy, doing what they want, ignoring the law, ignoring the commands - deep in sin". Don't you see a very close resemblance to this in your very church, in your very life? If you disagree, then why? Are you not doing what you want? Are you not ignoring the laws? Are you not ignoring the commandments? Are you not "deep in sin"? Remember..."...for sin is the transgression of the law" (1 John3:4b).

Hanukkah is NOT the feast of lights! Hanukkah is the feast of the dedication. The "festival of lights" would be called Chag Haooreem. "Hanukkah is a Hebrew word meaning "the dedication". Haooreem is a Hebrew word meaning "the lights". They are NOT the same thing. "Diwali" is the festival of lights that is celebrated by Hindus and other pagans stemming from worship of false gods in India. Hanukkah actually started on Wednesday night this year. According to the Law of God, we are not to say the names of false gods..."And in all things that I have said unto you be circumspect: and make no mention of the name of other gods, neither let it be heard out of thy mouth." Exodus 23:13 If you say the name of a false god, it is sin..."Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law." 1 John 3:4 The people of Israel were not allowed to honor God's Sabbath, not "their" Sabbath. It was created by God (Genesis 2:3) and he commanded us to keep it holy (Exodus 20:8). Did you say "kindred valley"? Maybe, but it is pronounced Kidron valley...it is located in Israel between the Mount of Olives and the City of David. Antiochus was for assimilation, not annihilation. He allowed the people of Israel to live, if they assimilated to Rome. Haman, in the book of Esther, was for annihilation, he wanted all of Israel killed. I cannot find the phrase "prescribed biblical festival" in my Bible. Oh, maybe becuase there is no such thing! We are commanded to keep the Feasts of the LORD, found in Leviticus 23. Purim, which is preserved in the scriptures and Hanukkah can be observed, with traditions that DO NOT go against the Word of God. Which is where we find Yeshua, Jesus, in John 10:22-23, during Hanukkah. Observing a feast that did not contradict the Law of God. If you truly believe that Jesus would celebrate any and all "holidays", including christmas, easter, halloween, st. patricks day, etc...well, I don't know what to say. I guess you don't believe the bible, "And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin" 1 John 3:5. If you believe that Jesus would celebrate the pagan holidays that most so-called christians celebrate today, then you believe that he would have sin. Remember, sin is transgression of the law. The "holidays" that you mentioned all go against the Law of God. You just told us that Hanukkah is found in John 10:22, and now you say that is it "non-biblical"..."A double minded man is unstable in all his ways." James 1:8 Just in case you forgot, Yeshua (Jesus) taught against traditions (Matthew 15:2,3,6) (Mark 7:9,13) that go against the commandments of God!

Maybe you don't know the name of God, "יְהוָה", the YHVH, in English it is JEHOVAH (Exodus 6:3). Do you know, I don't think that you do, that there is a difference between the Law of God and "the law of the Jews"? The so called "Mosaic Law" is rightly called the law of Moses (Malachi 4:4) or the law given by Moses (John 1:17). But, there is a distinct difference between the Law of Moses, which is the Law of God, and the "law of the Jews". "Saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat: All therefore whatsoever thy bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not. For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers." Matthew 23:2-4 The law of the Jews are man made traditions...not God's Law - "And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition." Mark 7:9 We are not to follow after man made traditions that go against the Word of God (also rightly called the Law of God), but we are to obey His laws... Also, for you to assume that Jesus "bends down to her level" (the woman accused of adultery)...we should NOT assume or interject anything. Did he "stoop to her level" no. He "...stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground,... He stooped down to write on the ground. "O LORD, the hope is Israel, all that forsake thee shall be ashamed, and they that depart from me shall be written in the earth, because they have forsaken the LORD, the fountain of living waters." Jeremiah 17:13 Remember, John 8 was written not long after the Feast of Tabernacles and Yeshua said "...If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink." (John 7:37b)

You are wrong about the Feast of Tabernacles being a tradition. It is a commandment of God, to be observed for ever (Leviticus 23:33-44) Also, the sabbath day (the 7th day of the week) is to be observed and kept holy by all who love God. "If ye love me, keep my commandments." John 14:15

I would like to say that I was relieved that Barry did not call Jesus a law breaker, of any sort... But, I would like to add...although I do not have the Old Testament (TaNaK) memorized, I am keeping the laws written therein. If you cannot imagine keeping these laws today, you certainly need a change of heart. "Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee." Psalm 119:11 "I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart." Psalm 40:8

By the way, the "law" that you said Jesus broke, it wasn't his...it is actually "Newton's law of universal gravitation". It is Newton's law...not God's Law. Even if you intend for it to be a "play on words" it is misleading, introducing the idea that "Jesus broke the law" and that he is allowed to because he created it. Bad, bad, bad...very bad.
