Fender Custom Shop Stratocaster 2019 Limited Roasted Tomatillo
stringtaste.com/en/products/fender-custom-shop-1956-stratocaster-roasted-tomatillo-limited
When it comes to vintage instruments, we appreciate their unique resonance and sweetness, which can be especially inspiring when playing a dynamic guitar like a Stratocaster. However, finding an authentic vintage instrument can be quite challenging and expensive. Fender Custom Shop has addressed this by creating guitars with a similar feel using roasted wood.
This particular Stratocaster features a roasted body and neck. The body is selected for its lightweight properties, while the neck is made of AAAA-class flamed maple. This combination results in a resonant, dynamic, and enjoyable guitar to play. The neck has a comfortable, worn-in feel with a soft V (boat neck) profile, which is especially great for those who play with their thumb over the neck. The body boasts deeper contours derived from a 1957 version, and the finish is a tasteful slight relic applied to a thin layer of nitrocellulose varnish. These features enhance the vintage feel of the guitar.
In terms of electronics, this guitar is equipped with hand-wound Tomatillo pickups by the renowned Joesphina Campos. These pickups offer a stellar tonal response, blending midrange sweetness with high-frequency clarity while preserving the bottom end. In essence, they deliver precisely what's needed for a guitar that aims to replicate the feel of a 1956-57 Stratocaster.
Whether you take it to a blues gig, play funk, or rock out to the tunes of artists like Brian Adams or Red Hot Chili Peppers, this guitar allows you to achieve the iconic tones known from classic rock albums.

This telecaster is a bit more modern than its Fender counterpart, both in the feel and tones. It's definitely a more rock-oriented instrument with a very comfortable contoured body, slim C-shaped neck, and powerful ceramic pickups. Sounds spectacular from cleans to roaring drives. The neck pickup is very tight and punch, and the bridge pickup is surprisingly twangy with a well-defined midrange....

So many things about this guitar scream: Custom Shop. It's based on 1960 Telecaster but it takes off to many parallel dimensions at the same time. I love these ,do you know what radius is standard on this model ? Thanks
@@Havanacuba1985 japanese Tylers are 11” radius. USA made are 10-12”compound radius.
Thanks for going into detail and giving a good idea about the feel. Would you say that this .850 neck (as K Line calls it) is thicker/fatter than the 60s oval C found on Fenders?
If I remember it correctly after that time, it's a bit different. K-Line neck doesn't feel thin but somehow to me it felt more like Fender soft-V, thickness was focused around the middle of the neck. Fender's Oval C has quite thick wings (sides of the neck), while the middle feels rather flat. I'm not a huge fan of oval C, K-Line felt much more comfy to me (in fact, to this time, it's one of the best strats I tried)
Great, thanks a lot! Exactly what I was hoping. I’m looking for a 60s style strat, but with a 50s style neck. To me the typical oval C always felt super flat. Thanks for confirming, and remembering 1 year after your video! 😅
Great guitar, happy owner of one for 13 years now❤

Nice dude!
I feel like G&L was kicking arse up till about 2016 and the management change it all went to crap, idk where they stand today, that was the last era I played of them
That's the 2017 model. I think it's at least on the same level as the standard USA Fender Telecaster. The quality is excellent, the fret job is spot on, no defects on the paint job, and solid hardware. Pickups are serious rock shotguns - I wouldn't complain about it.
Dude where to get hot pink?
The guitar is in our store, String Taste in Kraków, Poland. You can check it on our website: stringtaste.com/products/dilalla-pink-sparkle Write us an email or on Instagram/Facebook if you're interested - we'll get it shipped to you anywhere in the world :)

Maybach is not Gibson but it is really good guitar!
for the price, it better is a really really super good guitar.
Gibson is still king. Anything else is just a copy of the king
gibson is a guitar with gibson on the headstock. a gibson without the name gibson on the headstock is called an epiphone. a maybach is a gibson without the name gibson on the headstock but same price as it would have the name gibson on headstock.. i put the name maybach on headstock of my gibson, just for theft protection.
Gibson is a Heritage copy. Heritage is in the original factory.
The f hole on 1989 looks smaller than the 2006
I didn't notice it at the moment but might be true!
Amazing guitar!!! 😍
It is! Thank you!
Nice sax, looks like a guitar
Well you know, we tried! :D
Interesting stuff. On the RSA 31, If you set the Mids on the TMB channel to 10. That is the Vox setting so the Treble and Bass controls will act like they do on a Vox. Enjoy
Oh man, thank you so much for that input! I didn't know that, actually this was the very first sit-in with the amp. The way it transforms is insane.
reminds the sound of the 70's :)
exactly! Very much!
These are very beautiful guitars. But, they are not collectible. In fact, these Custom Shop guitars struggle to sell for half of the retail price on the used market. So, keep that in mind before you shell out the ridiculous prices Gibson demands for these guitars.
Thank you for bringing this! As everything in the guitar world - this is very individual. Knowing the market and our customers, they value Gibson CS guitars high. This particular model is really well made, lightweight and resonates as properly built guitar. Has the dynamics and tones necessary for profesional players and it's up to one's decision if it's worth or not. The beauty of high-end guitar market is that there are so many quality brands out there and we're able to choose.

Nope, just a Gotoh 2-point tremolo with a properly cut nut. That's what you pay for in boutique guitars :)
Love you guys❤ All the best🤘
Thank you Marcin and Kasia for supporting us so much! We love you too <3
Like all copies the resale value will divebomb. When you consider this it’s expected. Get a Gibson at this price. The Maybach should be around the 1200 gdp mark. It’s 2200 gdp. Same as a Gibson LP standard. I’ve seen Maybach used prices 1,000 to 1200 gdp.
Modern Eagle V, as I am sure you now know is now a model in the Core line. I just bought one in Charcoal Cherry Burst. Being delivered Feb 22 2023.
I think your review would have been much better if you had edited your video footage so that instead of playing each guitar through all its pickup selections on each amp setting that you switched each guitar after each position so that the viewer could compare neck with neck, bridge with bridge etc! A bit more work but much more useful to the viewer!
Hello Cecil! Thank you for watching! You are totally right, we realized that a bit later on. The latest guitar battles are being recorded this way, check out for example the ES-335 comparison video: ua-cam.com/video/BOHHatv35z8/v-deo.html
If the Anderson is using Lollars I can see the tonal thickness/fullness over the Suhr.
The Anderson Guitarwork makes their own pickups. This guitar had TV1/TV3 set. From my experience, recent Suhrs are darker, with more compression / slower attack. Andersons on the other hand have a very, very pronounced midrange and are more responsive. But that's just my take :) Thank you for watching!
dobre!
dzięki!
The 1989 is more agressive in crunch the paf classic 57 more warmer both are great if you want play heavy rock 1989 if you bluesy guys the 2006... Imo
Definitely 1989 is more powerful. 1989 has Bill Lawrence pickups and they are hotter. But also 1989 has more bottom end punch in general.
I agree with you. I have the 1989 model and the pickups are far too hot for my taste. I did email Gibson and asked for more info on the pickups. I had a reply saying they were PAFs.
Gibson real. Maybach = copy.
It's a replica for sure. Still has nothing to be ashamed of when put against a Gibson.
@@stringtasteit needs to be compared like for like. Tokai vs Maybach. The Gibson is in another league. It just is.
@@aliengrey6052thats just esoteric nonsense, honestly. Nowaday Gibsons are just copies of old Gibsons as well - and famously a LOT of them were not even very good at that. The Maybachs get made by czech artisans, in regions and coming from traditonal luthiership that goes back hundreds of years, they use nitro lacquer and top notch parts and when ordering from a dealer who has a relationship with them you can custom-order a few specs (like neckshape and relicing / fretboard edge rolling) with close to no mark-up in pricing. You basically get Custom Shop treatment for mass manifatured prices. You can compare them to the absolute top japanese built guitars, but not to modern tokais (which are mass produced in chinese or indonesian factories with the usual less expansive specs like poly lacquer).
@@ithemba I got two gibsons. I’ve had all the copies tokai ect. None of em have that gibsons sound.
@@aliengrey6052 Yes and no. Two les pauls can sound very different from one another in the first place, and "copies" or replicas can also sound very different too since there's a broad variety of manufacturers, pickups etc but even Gibsons come in different flavours. That being said having owned some Gibsons in the past and being the owner of a '21 LPC BB I feel there's a tone that my previous non Gibson LPs never had, not that they necessarily sounded bad just a bit different, as if Gibsons had a specific tonal signature which the realistic person in me just doesn't wanna buy into, I could see it being a placebo. Gibsons do have a certain feel though that the other brands don't really replicate and that is also different from a USA to a CS for example. Before 2019 most Gibsons had very questionable QC and that is still occasionally the case and I'll say it's rare to find a perfect one. But they do have a vibe and I feel like if you like les pauls you kinda need at least one nice Gibson, otherwise you'll always gonna be longing for it. I know I did and I'm happy I got into Gibsons and that I now have the LPC which is very good but not perfect QC wise, but it's a fantastic playing and sounding guitar especially for me who is mainly a japanese ESP enthusiast therefore used to high quality guitars. My next LP will be a Standard of some form since I miss having one, looking for a decently priced but nice used one so it could be a Trad or a Classic or even a non Gibson like a Maybach.
Well played!
thank you!
Somewhat accurate tone description but: part of the brighter tinty-er sound from the Suhr is due to its stainless steel frets and more percussive vocal like 25.5” scale. The TA might have silver nickel frets which are warmer and certainly the “shorty” 24.75” inch reduces the percussiveness, less spank, and makes for a somewhat more Les Paul “type” sound.
Hey! Thank you for watching! That's a very good point, I definitely agree :)
Hi! Are you sure the Maybach is chambered? On their page they say the light weight is due to a better quality wood; it sound pretty weird, but it comes from the maker.... ^-^
My Maybach Lester 60s was purchased new in May 2023. It is chambered. I'm not sure how the "Maybach aren't weight-relieved" rumor got started but it's untrue; they are indeed weight-relieved. 👍
I can only tell you what I felt but knocking the wood. To my ear, it was chambered. Maybach doesn't provide that much reliable info on the transition (France -> Czechia) period, so I would just trust my ears on that. Nevertheless - it is an amazing guitar, plays like a dream!
@@ScotticusZ The 2021 Lester honey pie I bought used off Reverb weighs 8.1lbs. and is NOT chambered, has a long neck tenon, and the maple top is amazing. I think some are chambered and some aren't...?
@@pharmerdavid1432That's certainly possible, and after reading your response I'm not as confident in my own answer anymore. I've read that Maybach has a strict "maximum weight" on the guitars they offer -- perhaps only those that are naturally above weight are relieved to compensate? Who knows.

It really depends on your needs. As a collector’s piece and for uniqueness of sound - maybe. As an instrument qualitywise - they are totally different, not better or worse.
