Psychoanalysing Zeke Jaeger - Transitional Objects
THANK YOU FOR YOUR LOVELY FEEDBACK ON THE REINER VIDEO
(Thanks to catching covid, have found the time to complete this vid :') )
Another psycho-biography, this time of Zeke Jaeger, from Attack on Titan. I was inspired by Donald Winnicott's ideas for this video.

Based on a section of my masters dissertation. I used this video as a means to (attempt) condensing a complicated set of ideas into a ten minute slot.
Psychoanalysing Reiner Braun

A psycho-biography of Reiner Braun, a fictional character in Attack on Titan, via Kleinian and Lacanian psychoanalytic theory. Music: ua-cam.com/video/VO7GQa_Ri10/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/ceJrRm-vbsw/v-deo.html
good video it's a shame you don't get more views
Post pls
Super underrated
The mind of child soliders in itsself is an extremely interesting subject but the entire expanded reason to why Reiner was a Childe soldier and what pushed him to go as far as he did was truly something.
Maybe I love Reiner so much because I suffered from depression for many years too... Besides his perfect story and character development and also his good looks. He's a 10/10 for me in every way. ❤ Aside from that he became a true hero at the end, the one he always wanted to be. ❤
Such a great character! Ended with no coclusion to his story and sniffing a letter from a girl ... So sad
Listening to this at work. Great video! This dude has one tragic story but I also appreciate the breakdown of the psychology of it
Great video but just a quick tip if you want people to be able to turn it off and listen to it while they do other things you might want to put the clips in English instead of Japanese dub just a suggestion
Nice video, I really like seeing all the different ways people interpret these characters and the story.
I def. Think you should have dived into explaining more specific scenes and manga spoilers. We can't do a full analysis without the whole picture.
To me, Reiner definitely has DID, especially since he's really got the "soldier" and "scout" personalities that conflicted, seemingly without any connexion with the both. And after that, there is the Reiner personality, the "original" one. Basically, his "soldier" personality emerged when Marcel Gaillard got eaten by Ymir. The second emerged to better get hold of the trauma of basically destroying Shiganshina. I , wouldn't say that he's schizoid since he doesn't have several symptoms of schizophrenia like hallucinations. But dissociative identify disorder, that's for sure.
commenting for the algorithm! this is such a well thought out video, i hope youtube boosts it💗
Awesome video!
Underrated and underviewed video. Your Zeke analysis is also very interesting! Phenomenal breakdown, thank you for this!! Might I recommend Annie or Jean next, if you ever plan on making another video?
Hey, I know it’s been 2 years since the upload of this video and opinions may have changed, but I thoroughly enjoyed this video, and your application of Kleinian Theory! I would be among a lot of people who would enjoy another installment of this Psychoanalysis of Attack On Titan!
pretty good video. needs some work but practice makes perfect
underrated af!
6:24 THE MONKE
This deserves more views, this helps me focus while working
Great vid champ! I feel like a sponge again and I love it
why is this video so underrated?
How did this video not do better? So underrated
I wonder if the armored titans ability is its plot armor, like Reiner's persistence and seeming inability to die, like how he somehow put his consciousness in his titans nervous system, that's my headcanon at least
It was awesome! MANGA SPOILER By the way, it would be cool to analyze how Reiner came to semi normal life in the end🥰
“A form of public dreaming” that’s beautiful
Just found your channel today, and watched the Reiner video. Your approach to disect characters is so good! I wonder if you would consider doing a similar video about Ymir the Founder, i feel like her character was let intentionally "blank" (for example, no dialogue from her) and her character and motivations (or the lack of any motivation/agency) is let up, for the most part, to the interpretation of the reader. Regardless if it happens or not, thanks for your videos!
Hi, absolutely love this! I wonder whether I can translate and upload this video onto bilibili, a Chinese video platform?
Me: I love Reiner's character because he's an incredibly relatable character and I see a lot of myself in him just about everyone else: I love Reiner's character because he's a *GODDAMN NUTCASE!* Me: 😅....😶....😨
depression, yes. PTSD, yes. There is no evidence in the show for scitzo or paranoia though
I would say that the paranoia was the impending doom of having to face eren and the survey corps haunted him and I think this is seen finally when meets eren during the declaration. For the schizophrenia I think it could’ve been developed due to the paranoia and the split personalities. ( commenting this before watching the video )
Please keep doing this… your style is really good
Oh would you look at that :) a good recommendation by the algorithm. Good job with the essay and overall video style!!
Zeke's an amazing character I love the video
Just woke up, now I KNOW today will be a good day
Literally tried to search and find a video like this yesterday, only to have UA-cam recommend it to me today.
Amazing
Just found this video as I go through an Attack on Titan youtube binge (just caught up with the thus-far released anime after forgetting all about it for a few years). While some of the terms here went over my head, I thought this was overall a really great vid that highlights Reiner's mental state very well; I've been able to understand and appreciate his character much more on my second watch of the series. I only noticed a couple moments where the mic sounded a bit off, otherwise it was pretty good imo. :) Hopefully my comment helps the algorithm a bit!
Good video
Ma sei italiano?
Nice video ❤️ can you please do a video on floch and Kenny Ackerman I am soobscriber
Thank you algorithm for reccomending me this video!! Just what I needed after a long hard day, time to grab a gall of wine, sit back and relax! Great content!
Even if it's only 20 comments, thanks so much for the lovely feedback, folks. Given where the series is at now, I thought it would be good to do a Zeke psycho-profile. Most likely it won't be as long as this one, but I'm already working on it. One thing to note is that I would really like to upload regular content, as I have so many ideas. Yet, I work full time in a clinical setting now, and I'm working towards funded research later this year. It's ruddy exhausting. So I will work on the Zeke vid and will see whether it is tenable for me to keep making content on the regular :)
Oh my god I can’t wait to see what’s up next! This video is one of the best character analysis I have seen and really one of its kind-psychoanalysis! I’ve always got interest in this field but I don’t know where to start. Your video introduced me to various topics which I think are good starting points. However where do you think is a good start for studying psychoanalysis? Also I wonder what are your thoughts on Eren Jaeger? I know that the ending is a big disappointment for a lot of people, so I’m curious to know how you make sense of it (or whether it seems absurd to you too) from a psychoanalytical perspective. By the way, have you considered adding closed captions for your videos? I know it takes a lot of time, but maybe you can open it up for someone else to do it instead. And sometimes when you overlay text over pictures, the text becomes a bit unclear. Maybe you can consider lower the opacity of the image beneath? I hope these comments are helpful. You really are amazing!
Wait. That channel has got only 50 subs? NO f'in way.
Amazing!
wonder what it would have been if reiner chose to side with they survey corps and detach himself from the marleian way
I am genuenly suprised by your amount of subs. You absolutely deserve more.
he reminds me a lot of myself, minus the whole split-personality stuff lol your humor is pretty good btw, it wasn't constant and so served as a real break during the breakdown
Same here. Growing up, I was always afraid of consequences. I would strive to keep on my parents good side to avoid confrontation and punishments as much as possible. Like Reiner’s indoctrination. We would both break down when pressure’s too much, and having to cope with whatever mistake we made. It resonates. I’m on the High End of the Spectrum so…
@@icemountaindragon5057 I never had avoidance issues from growing up, but did after a lot of personal stuff went down in my life. I moreso have a lot of guilt that I couldn’t struggle with and just buried instead, but that was far worse for me. I didn’t develop a split but I did get extremely depressed as he was. I hope it gets easier for you, just try to achieve that balance between asserting yourself too much and not asserting yourself enough. We all have issues in the end, but sometimes may mess up if we try to force the change instead of taking it gradually. Gl.
This was good.. very good. I really do agree with the view of adult Reiner.
After watching the lifw of reiner. I feel so sad for him. Lots of pain he has been taking to be tough i sometimes he always tired on his life
Looking forward for more videos from you
Just started the video, commenting to please the algorithm
