    THANKS MUCH for breaking this down. AEM is the ONLY WAY to go. What I went with on my import turbo build. I also have a late model sport bike with a tune and software to tune aftermarket ECU . I was looking at these cheaper gauges for it . But CLEARLY I need to buy a good name brand wideband for it as well. To tune correctly and properly.

    • @throttlebuddies0
      @throttlebuddies0 2 дні тому

      you can get away with monitoring the AFR value with a cheaper wideband but i would clearly not recommend a narrowband. there are also other brands of controllers sold that you can use such as innovate 14.7 spartan etc. they work well. but price wise, there is not much in it and on some you need a gauge in addition anyway so it makes sense to go for a controller thats included into a gauge

    Funny we are concerned about getting faster spool and more power from our turbos not making noise! You touched on this but the surge noise you are trying to make isn't good for the turbo in the long run. It puts a lot of stress on the compressor wheel, shaft, bearing system, and thrust bearing. So you are reducing turbo life and possibly damaging the turbo! You are also increasing turbo lag when you get on and off the throttle! That's why we use ported shroud compressor housings and compressor bypass valves to try to reduce this!

    • @throttlebuddies0
      @throttlebuddies0 16 днів тому

      You are 100 percent right that it causes more wear but the experience is that especially on ball bearing turbos the effects on longevity isnt that large. LCE in germany did testing at 35+ PSi using no blow off valves in their audi quattro builds that they warranty for their customers and they have no issues at all with the garrett G-Series. Also on anything that has a high flow housing, the force on the bearings is almost halved, so it is not as bad. Though there is some performance arguments for this also, not using a blow off on a large frame turbocharger on a small engine, makes transient response MUCH faster, so depending if you wanna sacrifice a little performance for that, might be worth it (Allthough there is an argument for NLS to be had sooooo neither here nor there) the issue i see is what i also explained in the video is with turbos that dont have a high flow housing and not using a blow off is, that the compressor wheel might shift on the shaft and causing imbalance therefore destroing bearings quite quickly. Thats why audi in the 80s used a polygon shaped shaft to stop that. Not sure why modern manufacturers dont do that anymore. possibly too expensive.

    Something that most people don't think about is the zinc in the oil that used to be there to protect the flat tappet lifters is no longer in the oil. The zinc provides these type of turbo's a lot of lubrication for the thrust bearings as it would the flat tappet lifters. Problem is that you can only get it in good oils like Royal Purple or AMS Oil for performance engine's as most oils today have the zinc removed because most newer vehicles have rollerised lifters and rockers along with ballbearing turbo's eliminating the need for it most of the time.

    • @throttlebuddies0
      @throttlebuddies0 28 днів тому

      that heavily depends on the engine. a lot of engines still use journal bearing turbos, id even say most stock cars. even performance ones. VW on the 2.0 TSO only switched to ball bearing for the golf R. the GTI and pretty much any other smaller displacement VAG engine still use journal bearing same goes for other brands. as for the flat tapped lifters there are massive amounts of old engines running low quality oil and having no issues at all so i think this would only be an issue for high lift cams and high rpms, aswell as heavy springs so there would be more wear. as far as the bearings in cheap turbos are concerned, while it might help, the material they are made out of is just not as good as it could be.

      you can run the distributor for timing but you cant run cops from the distributor really as you only have a high voltage from the distributor. if you have a stock ecu you cant run COPs but on a standalone you can convert to cops no issues at all retaining the dizzy for timing purposes

    It's Suzuki M15A, yes it has VVT on intake cam only. Currently we have old Nissan T28 from Silvia S15 but it spools too late, 4700 rpm or so. Looking for something to be on boost by 4000 for the latest but still give us some power potential on the top end

    • @throttlebuddies0
      @throttlebuddies0 Місяць тому

      @@IggySport1388 yeah a t28 especially an older variant will be way too big. The 22-300 or even the 17-250 might be ideal depending for what power you are aiming for The 300 on this engine should definetly hit full boost below 3500 You can improve spool by advancing the vvt angle to the maximum before the turbo hits full boost this can help a lot and improve spool by up to 500 rpm

    Would the same concept apply if I drilled a hole into an aluminum intake pipe separate from the turbo and then have a silicone boot covering the hole to prevent boost leak before the intake, but also creating air rushing over the hole of the aluminum inside the boot before the turbo?

    • @throttlebuddies0

      no this will not work. the sound comes from the blades of the compressor wheel rushing past the edges of the hole.

      lasted 20 km lol though i had been running multiple Maxpeedingrods units and had mixed resolts from them lasting a year to 800km if i were to install a turbo on a daily and looking for an upgrade, i would choose a turbo from mambatek. they are more expensive, but quality wise a different world and also can deliver a lot of power. Their k04 4660 will make 320+ hp reliably

    New to the scene. So any tips would be appreciated. Can I build an igniter, or cdi, from this technology? It appears it's basically just one of the features it has. But the motorcycle has a higher rpm range? Then, If it's still ok? How about the data... to find the original curve. I dony know if I can have one built?

      A timing light can be had for 20 bucks on amazon so thats not that big of a deal, but yeah it might be possible to do something like this. its the same for motorcycles. you just need to know where the ignition timing needs to be at. i have both videos on how to create a basemap in one of the earlier parts aswell as on how to tune that map to the maximum on the later parts. just look in the playlist and there are all the infos you need.

    The crankcase pressure should never be high enough for oil gasses etc. to be able to enter the combustion chamber through the gaps in the rings. The oil is coming from the PCV system which is sucked back into the engine and burned for emission purposes. Id recommend a catch can or air/oil separator to ensure there is no oil mixing with the combustion air which can cause this detonation issue.
